Hello Dr. Denise, I am really loving your videos and plan to use them as part of my online teaching. One thing that I teach in class is that the label on fertilizers bags can only legally show how much NPK is immediately available to plants. This can be misleading on organic fertilizers which may include more NPK than what is listed on the bag because it is slow release. If you can find any studies that include how much NPK is slowly released through the organic fertilizers, I would greatly appreciate anything you can share. Once again, thank you for creating these series of videos!
Hi Deanna. I thought that your comment was interesting and in various classes I talk about the availability of organic fertilizer. I often generalize saying that it will take twice as long, but it depends on a lot of factors including the amount of microbes in the soil, temperature, and amount of moisture so it would be difficult to estimate. Here is an article from my alma mater about the types of fertilizers that explains it more, edis.ifas.ufl.edu/publication/HS1255.
