My use case: 4k for work & browsing, 144Hz for gaming (I don't mind downscaling to 1440p for AAA, I don't play that much anyway) and all that in one reasonably priced screen; seems perfect to me.
@@jetmiraclecommander4095 It will look OK, but without a doubt that it will also look a bit blurry. It's comparable to running 1080p on a 144p screen. It's doable depending on what type of game. Another options is to run at 1080p on the 4K monitor because 1080p (1920x1080) fits perfectly 4 times (2x2) in 4K (3840x2160).

Heh, that person is me. I'm play video games a lot. I also develop games. My work also occasionally involves colour grading. I do also care about the screen space real estate and refuse to go below 4k. I also also have a 3080ti in a single monitor setup that I need to expand for more onscreen working area. I also have a colour calibrator. Also I'm frugal and refuse to pay >£1000. so thanks for the review :D
Can someone explain me why the result of 9.2ms with the "time sleuth test at 1080p" is worse than the 27ms latency with the "Nvidia LDAP test"? The "Nvidia LDAP" tests the full latency from clicking -> all the way through your pc -> showing/capturing a change on screen. So how can you know how much time of the 27ms was actually the monitor input latency? (A chart comparing it to other monitors would have been nice.) Was the "Nvidia LDAP" test also at 1080p? Because that might be where the difference is. I've seen similar results for the Samsung Odyssey LS28AG7 28" 4K monitor. And I've seen people say that it is because their tester (like the Leo Bodnar/Time Sleuth) doesn't support HDMI 2.1 so they can't test 4K@120Hz or 4K@144Hz. So they have to do it with 1080p@120Hz or 4K@60Hz. Some results for the input latency for the LS28AG7 are: 21ms @ 4K@60Hz & 14ms @ 1080p@120Hz ... And in my opinion that is terribly high...
can someone explain what the difference is between AOC U28G2X and AOC U28G2XU2? I don't understand what the additional letter and number means in addition? is it a more recent version, I'm looking at one on amazon and it says it has HDMI 2.1, not 2.0 like it says in this vid?

Confusing as it is advertised to have 2x2.1hdmi ports on the website I'm on, aswel as 2 display ports. Perhaps they upgraded it? It's model is U28G2x/D
You most likely won't be gaming at 4K 144Hz without an AMD 6800XT or RTX 3080 or above anyway, so I don't really see the limited display output as a major issue (for PC gaming anyway). Above 120fps, I see very little difference if I'm honest. I usually just cap ingame FPS to 120 so the GPU isn't pushed as hard anyway. I appreciate that's just my personal opinion and others may argue this is an issue, but I'd expect to the vast majority this wouldn't be an issue.
@@TechteamGB Hardware Unboxed recently reviewed the Asus VG28UQL1A as well, which uses the same panel as the Gigabyte M28U apparently, so that would also be one to potentially look at. Overall it performed similar to the M28U in Tim's testing, but has a more adjustable base
If you're going to connect a PS5 to your monitor, definitely go for HDMI 2.1 panels. For PC gaming or even Xbox (1440p@120hz or 4k@60hz) you can go with this one and call it a day.
Hey nice video. I have a 3090 RTX and my current Monitor is Asus ROG XG279Q 1440P. I am now looking to push the graphic card harder and I want a nice 4K experience. My budget is 1k, what do you recommend for me? Thanks in advance and keep your good work!
Exactly this monitor mate, i have a 3090 aswell and the same wqhd monitor. But with this aoc monitor i can play far cry 6, valhalla, cold war etc in 4k maxed settings (raytracing etc) its literally eye porn lol
I'd think this monitor as a "worst of both worlds" unit, i.e., huge performance hit of running 4K (gaming), and a squint-fest due to its insane PPI @ 28". Very strange combination of stats here, and as you mentioned, it's hard to know who the right person for this monitor is.
If you're a pc gamer, who wants 4k 120-144hz, this one is perfect. Even for for regular office work is 100% fine, you can scale up browsers, MS Office, and the UI, so that. A 32" monitor would be debatable better but also $300-500 more expensive for the exact same features.

How do you release a 4K monitor in 2021 without HDMI 2.1 is just mindblowing.
Comments?
I just got this thing used (4 months old) for 200 bucks
this monitor is not even close to gigabyte m27u or i`m wrong?

you mean if i have 3080 gpu i wont have any problem to run the game on 4k and 120 fps? cause i have 3080 gpu
@@hassanbarati3093 Well I mean you definitely won't be with anything below a 3080, and even with a 3080 you might struggle in some titles.
Think the gigabyte m28u would be a better buy , specially as it comes with hdmi 2.1 .
I'm hoping to get one of those in soon, then I'll be able to confirm if it offers similar or better performance to this one.
