Bruce & Bongo is a British musical duo active in the 1980s, composed of Bruce Hammond Earlam (13 January 1955) and Douglas Wilgrove (19 March 1955).
The duo is known for the 1986 international hit Geil, which took up the melody of the song Rock Me Amadeus by the Austrian singer Falco. The single reached first position in the German and Austrian charts and remained there for over 3 months. In German-speaking countries the individual provokes a series of reactions from different sectors of society due to his language considered obscene. In fact, the song plays on the meanings of the term geil in German, which can mean several things: fun, cool and horny. For a certain period the song was banned by the German government. The single was written by the two authors while they were British Army soldiers stationed in Germany.
Subsequently, despite the good sales results of the subsequent single Heigh-Ho (Whistle While You Work), also known as Hi Ho (at the top of the hit parade in Austria), Bruce and Bongo never repeated that success and are therefore remembered like a one-hit wonder band. The single is one of three extracts from the album The Geil Album (the others are Geil and French Foreign Legion) which still sold 500,000 copies. Hi Ho was also full of samples, in particular taken from the song, which was sung by the Seven Dwarfs in the Disney film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
