  • Triumph motorcycles recently sent Bry on a trip over to Valencia in Spain to ride the brand new Triumph Speed 400 and Triumph Scrambler 400 X. In this video Bry will give her first impressions on both of these bike and at the end of the video she will tell you which one she likes the best.

    Lovely lady introducing new Triumph. I have owned pre unit bikes T100 and unit Bonneville 1967 . Still have a 1947 TR5 gadabout. This new 400 looks good !. Might endulge as an over 70s treat. Love women riding bikes. All the best. Dave

    Great review comparing the two versions. These smaller capacity lightweight bikes are great and 40/50hp is the sweet spot. The RE 350’s are just too underpowered. I was interested in a Honda CB500X but the new Triumph Scrambler 400 has made me think again.

      Save yourself a lot of grief mate and Just buy the Honda even a second hand CB500X will be better than this piece of garbage. All that glitters is not gold

      @@pggp273 thanks for replying - you might be right. Don’t know if the Triumph is as bad as you claim but I’ve been following “Itchy Boots” tackle the full length of the Americas and now West Africa on the same Honda CRF300. The way it’s stands up to the abuse says a lot about Honda reliability.👍👍👍

      @@fizzyridertoo Do your own research. This bike has been out in India a little while and there have been a significant amount of issues with the bike.

      @@pggp273 In other words you have no experience. You also don't know how riding in India relates to riding elsewhere. How they ride, what the fuel is like, what the roads are like etc.

    An impulse purchase of the Speed for $3500 in September (in India) has been quite eventful !
    I’m thoroughly enjoying it even though I own a bigger Kawasaki.

    Motorcycle motors have gotten so large and so torquey. It's nice to see small displacement bikes getting more popular.

    I had a test ride of this. Man oh man, I couldn't get off from it. It's so good. It has comfort of Himalayan seat, smoothness of honda cb350, power of a duke 390 and pleasure like an interceptor. Gears are tall, no knocking, maneuvers like a Messi on field, pulls harder than a machine gun trigger and feels like a dragon you're flying on that's completely in your control. It's so good! Its Triumph Scrambler400x 🎉 for the Ride ❤

    These smaller bikes are also better for us oldies too , I’ve lost a inch in height over the last couple of years and strength and hip problems so they’re perfect 😊😊😂 .

    Totally agree about the rear end of the speed. Far too much space between the wheel and rear seat and the seat itself is not attractive 👍🏻 Maybe they will do an old school variant in future and change the rear part of the chassis 😬

      Think there may be some demand for modifications in that area of the styling a flatter seat in particular and more effective mud guard front and rear. Other than that the bike is pretty much spot on bar maybe too low gearing for the first two I can see demand for changes to sprockets.

      @@anthonybrown4874 Agree. Something about the current set up makes the Street look a bit spindly; takes the muscle out of its aesthetic. The front is nice, the rear is weak. The way the frame is currently designed wouldn't allow for a seat swap that'd make much of a difference, so there'll need to be a redesign there. Would be great to see a Bonnie-esque 400 if these prove to be popular. Bajaj engine is the only concern, however, RE has done well, so here's hoping!

    Great review. A classic tank maybe will be available aftermarket. The brake and clutch master cylinders look much better than the clear plastic ones on say a CCM. You certainly get alot of bike for your money. Better tires is an easy upgrade. They both have a high fun factor.

    Triumph has a winner and these models will have a wide appeal across the board. The price styling and quality are excellent. Makes you want to have a second bike as a run-around. Females are catching on and feeling the thrill that guys have for motorcycling.
    You have to admit it girls it is fun and it gets you out with the guys.
    My first bike was a 1938 Triumph Tiger 70 250cc. Select first gear take off slowly, punch the throttle and lift the front wheel clean off the ground as it accelerates. Think what a modern today's version would do. The Tiger 80 350cc of the same period had a powerful-sounding up-swept exhaust system. A fast bike although it had a rigid frame and girder forks its handling was reasonable on good roads.

    Great review Bry , I agree that they should make them in a more classic style , also I think they should have made them a twin 270 crank like the bigger versions , having said that they look a great bike for the price point and for new riders . Not for me though , I might have a cheeky test ride on one just because.

      a second cylinder would have denied its affordability; Bajaj so far only makes singles so R&D, further factory set up and staff training would have added a lot of cost

      @@tombombadilofficial Maybe Bro is of the opinion that they're made for anyone who will buy them. They would have greater appeal in the U.S. with a more powerful twin-cylinder engine. Yes, they would have cost more, but the U.S rider doesn't choose motorcycles for their economy and simplicity. If they did, the modern motorcycle world would be much different than it is today. Nothing against anyone who wants a fancy-looking plodder, but if simplicity is the goal, I'd rather have a used DR650 or Honda 650 single and spend a bit of money on performance and comfort modifications. Too bad Triumph isn't capable of giving us a modern version of the B50. Who needs a Indian Gold Star 400 or 650? Not me.

    I’d like to take the brown two piece seat and rock guard off the scrambler and put the on a blue speed 400. My preference

    Very nicely done review. Given the choice as an only bike would you have the 900 or 400? Ive owned a scrambler 1200xe and regret selling it now. Be ready for people to comments " thats not a scrambler"

    yea these are great and thankfully they did not go down the same route as the REs in terms of styling that would have made it really difficult to sell in India! They have kept it in a niche and should be rewarded for that...i just wish they were a little bolder with both the design and the character on both of these...theyre just a bit too vanilla to be iconic!

    Hello! But do you feel any issues yet. Though the product is great.
    Here in India many owners are having issues like Stalling, RPM Fluctuations on idle, Alloy bend, Engine noise. And Brand here are not acknowledging it fully. We would like to here if any issues there. I know its too soon for you to feel as pretty new rides.

    So you would like a 400 Bonneville? Not sure if there's a massive market for that, as mostly a Bonneville is more for the older generation ! Personally I think Triumph have it spot on with this bike, its unmistakably a Triumph without being old fashion, and it will take a massive bite out of Royal Enfield.

      This bike will possibly appeal to those who bought an Enfield 350 and then sold it as they found it underpowered for what they wanted as from what I have seen the triumphs will hold motorway speeds more comfortably. The bikes produced twice the power and aren’t artificially restricted like the Enfields are which is something that Enfield need to rethink. That said I have owned a 350 meteor for the last two years and won’t be trading up to either of the triumphs as the meteor is my second bike and it does what I want and I am very happy with it . I also like the styling and don’t see the appeal of a triumph 21 replica.

      @@johnludmon510 yes I think you are spot on, 20bhp is not enough in the real world, if you want to potter around country lanes maybe but get on a nat speed limit road 😕

      @@raymorris952 yes the meteor is happy at 40 to 60 mph and will do 70 to 75 but you are on the limit and an extra 10 mph would be good to have in reserve . The Triumphs have this and a little bit more but do cost a lot more £700 to £1400 between the hunter and the meteor and the Speed. My only criticism of the bikes is the scrambler isn’t really an off road bike unless you count damp grass and gravel driveways .

      @@johnludmon510 but it's that true of all scramblers? I think I would rather take the light 400 off road, than the 1200? It's way too heavy and expensive to drop in the dirt 😭

      @@raymorris952 yes the 1200 and for that matter a GS1300 might be a little heavier than I would like to pull out of the mud but if I was going to ride off road a crf 300 or similar would be my choice.

    The nearest competition to this Triumph 400 would be the Honda CB300R.

      Everything gets gold forks today. Pretend knock off Ohlins from twenty years ago. If I bought one I would powder coat them black.

    Whatever it may say on the side of the tank this is not a Triumph and never will be so don't kid yourself that it is. Triumph in name only (TINO)

    I wouldn’t ride with your left foot under the shifter like that unless you are actually shifting.
