I swear I hear sounds or like.. sometimes faint voices. But when I found this video it all gets drowned out and I'm calm enough to fall asleep. Thank you. I would give you a hug right now if I could. 💜
If you hear voices right as you are falling asleep, it's actually not as uncommon as you may think. I often hear my name being whispered right before I go to sleep but more commonly hear a loud bang, explosion, or balloon popping. I forget what it's called but it's a fairly common thing. I used to stress myself out about it but it's nothing to worry about. Can definitely be creepy at times though!
I have tinnitus, and it's good for drowning out the constant ultra-high pitched tone; the tinnitus (I'm assuming) also causes me to hear patterns in background noise that my brain interprets as muffled, intelligible voices, or faint, indiscernible music. This helps that, too. Not to mention sleep.
Someone else suggested this, but I can't find his comment so I'll re-suggest it so people know: Find the "Nostromo Ambient Engine Noise" (the ship from Alien) and have it play at the same time as the "Star Trek TNG Ambient" for a richer, fuller sound. I've been doing that - both of them at the same time - while studying and it's absolutely beautiful whitenoise. :)

Great sound design tho. I love these little touches. Star Trek TNG's strength is in the weight of its subject matter and the performances of its cast, with some soulful and dramatically engaging music sure, but this quiet ambient noise is all that's necessary to score the performances of the cast. It's there in every other if not every scene on the ship and it really tethers you to the fact their on this piece of humming technology. It is the sound of home. Good choice.

If you are of a certain age range, and you have trouble sleeping, this can be incredibly helpful as background noise. It can also be fantastic for meditation.

Turn on an empty dryer, place your elbows on top and cup your ears, it sounds the exact same.
Do not ruin this for me!!!!!
It actually sounds like being on board a jet plane at Flight Level 350 crossing the Pacific Ocean, absolutely blissful. Thank you for posting this.
My cat was asleep on my lap. I started this video and she looked up at the speakers and lowered her head in a defensive position. I tried to pet her and she looked at me as if she saw a ghost and jumped up and headed for the door. I think maybe she thought it was a storm or some water roaring in the distance.

I'm here because of Danny and Ross from steam train, god I love this
thanks for your effort with these. i've been using several of your ambient assemblages for months. lovely for manipulating headspace for work or sleep. sometimes i will play the brown noise from the simplynoise app at the same time for an even fuller feeling of immersion. TNG engine idling has become the go-to... it's at the point that when it's not playing in my office my coworkers will miss it and ask "when are we getting on the spaceship?"
paynith You are most welcome :D Thanks for letting me know you have been enjoying them so much. Great to hear the comment from your office too. It has been a lot of fun putting these sounds together over the last few years so it is great to know other people are enjoying them too.
This is a trek fans life soundtrack...
well said:-)
When you're struggling with Tinnitus, this is an excellent masker. However its not strong enough for me. I need something like rain.
This got me through loads of late night studying during college! Now back again after 3 years :) Many thanks!
Why did I click on this and why am I still listening to this?
