Wheel Shop Automation: Bearing Mount Process

The NSH USA Automated Bearing Mount Cell is an excellent example of our wheel shop automation capabilities. Wheel set qualification, bearing journal lubrication, and bearing mount operations are executed automatically and in accordance with AAR specifications. There is limited operator interaction with the wheel sets, increasing shop safety and efficiency while decreasing opportunity of operator error.
This automated bearing mount cell is phase 1 of a multi-phase modernization of an existing wheel set production facility. The removal of the old equipment and installation of the new machines happened during a planned shop shutdown, so the impact on productivity was limited.
