This guy was the face of the Rays’s Franchise. Really shocked they traded him. Actually thought he was gonna be there the rest of his career. Not a Rays fan btw.
Excellent career, & he's certainly been a thorn in the side of the Yankees (especially for CC Sabathia). Despite my Yankee fandom, his walk-off homer in the 2011 season finale made me flat-out ecstatic. I wish him the very best
Now im a houston astros fan(yeah baby world champs) but for me to see a player who has been in an organization for a long while through thick and thin to get traded or to go to another team hurts... Evan longoria is one of those special players sucks that he left florida and wish him the best...
@@Bacon-kv4hi he isn't talking about the steroids, he's talking about how he was a young superstar, went to multiple all star games, won multiple SS and GG, was the face of his team's franchise, became a little washed up but still performed at an above average level later into his career.
Tampa Bay is unfortunately a dissolving franchise, within 10 years time I imagine they’ll move to a different city. It’s sad to think about all the great players who have moved in and out of the Rays system due to them being a small market. I guesd that’s just the nature of Baseball.
Sodi Bodil You're so right I've been a Pirate and Ray's fan my entire life since I've lived in both cities and it's just a shame. Both organizations struggle to hold on to talent simply because they can not pay them. The window to win a world series is so small and if you miss your chance it can be years before the talent wave comes back through. I really hope the Rays don't move I enjoy going down to Tampa for a few games during the summer. It's a pretty cool environment just a lack of support.
I doubt at this point that Stuart Sternberg is going to be willing to fork over the necessary $$$ needed to fund the stadium. If I'm the Mayor of Tampa right now I'm telling Stuart to pay at least 85% of the cost cause trading Longoria to me says he's not willing to spend what he needs to make this team successful. Let them move to where ever they want to cause the backlash from the fans is going to be felt this coming season.
I'm stating i am because @2:10 Longoria took the yankees out of the wild card spot. basically tipping my hat to him. whether people asked or not i'm making it clear i am.
Has it been five years? Feels like longer. I remember how mad I got when the announcement was made. Never wanted to see another baseball game again, period.
I don't think anyone in this comment section understands that both the Marlins and the Rays are trying to rebuild. Stanton signed a 13 year, 200 million dollar contract, so no shoot the Marlins would get rid of him. As for Longo, he too had an expensive contract with about 5 years left on it. The Rays have a lot if young guys coming up to play. The Marlins, well, I can't see them winning much, but then again nobody thought the Houston Astros would be World Series Champions. It'll, be interesting to see where these guys end up next year (sorry for the incredibly long comment).
Has it been more than five years? Feels like longer. I remember how mad I got when the announcement was made. Never wanted to see another baseball game again, period.
The Rays should trade Archer and Colome now that Longo is gone. The worst thing you can do in a situation like the Rays are in is just go half way in a rebuilding effort. They are trying to shoot too high for those guys, though. It's doubtful that any team gives what they are asking at the moment so they should lower their expectations on a deal to make something happen because Archer and Colome still have value. If Archer gets worse he will lose more value then he already has the past two years in which he was only an ok starter and they would have to hope Colome comes through with another good season because if he had a poor year, as a reliever, they wouldn't get much at all for him anymore. They are the ones who should be motivated to move these guys. Other teams will find options elsewhere and the Rays would be rolling the dice big time.
Squiddi Let's hope so. The main thing for the Yankees is the health of Stanton and Bird. If both are healthy and perform, They should win the East easily.
Yeah because the Rays were such a threat last year with Longoria. NY is going nowhere this year. The bulk of the AL East is nothing but disappointing teams.
I'm sure he was waiting for an opportunity with another team to prove himself that he still can win. It was time for him leave and i'm sure that the Tampa Bay Rays are going to be a better team in a couple years.
I remember going to the games wanting to see Longoria or Joyce hit a homer and when the stadium was filled now it’s empty and I don’t like it. Can they please get Matt Joyce and Evan Longoria back it would be very good. 👍 Edit: Now Evan Longoria is doing HORRIBLE at the Giants.
Well. I mean Evan Longia is kinda lost his magic touch he had many years ago. But coming off his worst season in 2017. I don’t think that the Giants will greatly improve. But you will never know.

Genesis we have so much talent his bat was nothing but a road block in our lineup
@@McShibby10 are you crazy! I saw this comment now but he was a great hitter when they traded him
Gonna miss Longo. He's been around since I was 5 🙁
Marlins-trade stanton
Rays-Trade longoria
Well i guess Florida is not gonna have fans
SoCalSportsFan 27 First Hurricane Irma Devistates Florida and now this. It really is a sad day for Florida baseball.
Why the hell should they have us. Rays just betrayed our entire fan base and Longo. Disgraceful
rays and the marlins need to build their farm system again. im a padres fan. we have THE BEST farm system in baseball now.
Not to mention they traded Corey Dickerson, Steven Souza Jr., etc.
Wonder why they would trade away evan??
Ahh the good old days. Been in st Pete all my life and it was magical in 08
If professional baseball in Florida wasn't bad enough both teams just traded away their franchise players
256 bradley just wait
Just wait.....

Looking back this was the beginning of a new era for the Rays. Still miss longo though.
Evan Longoria: The Ryan Braun of the AL

as a Giants fan, Considering all the other star players they lost, it'll feel nice to have him on board.
Volting Master me too
Same here
Sad day for the rays
Yes
Getready123 that'll be us next year when everybody leaves
Nabre Labre for who
The Orioles
+Nabre Labre ok
thats like if the yankees had traded derek jeter
except yankees have money
Um no it’s not jeter is way better than longo
Rockyhp04 it means trading your franchise player... not actually comparing jeter to longoria...
JPX Soler ah I see. I thought he was comparing the two 😂😂😂

They should move them to montreal
Sodi Bodil They'll move to Downtown Tampa or Ybor trust me. St. Pete is shitty
this is why the tv market should share the money like nfl does. so each team has almost an even amount of payroll

Such a great player and fans thought he was awesome
Ah good memories
Can you believe that TV quality is when this guy played in and he's still playing
To this day, that was the greatest final day of a regular season in history…and the biggest collapse ever by the Red Sox.
Maybe longoria will come back as a Ray. still has a few good years in him. i wish him well and im a yankee fan.
nobody asked if u were a yankee fan
I'm stating i am because @2:10 Longoria took the yankees out of the wild card spot. basically tipping my hat to him. whether people asked or not i'm making it clear i am.
They have Kevin Kiermayer. He’s one of the top centerfielders in baseball right now, and he’s been much better than Longoria the past few years.
well im a rays fan, so shut up u little stupid yankee fan
2 months later lol. you must be slow tony, both mentally and physically. lets see how your rays do this season after cleaning house for a bit.

I think they did well with the Chris archer trade. And just after the Longo era in general
As A Giant fan I only hope he brings his A game here, nothing else will be good enough.
Longoria now a Giant?! Wow, I didn't think he'd go westbound. 😰😰
Now all we got is Chris Archer and Kevin Keirmier
Division only gets easier for the Yankees 😂

Squiddi Rays are becoming small market Yankees though. Stealing prospects for old guys

You know the Rays, always trading away any star talent they have. Archer’s gonna be gone in one, maybe two seasons.

Let's face it Florida should only have spring baseball not summer baseball

Guillermo Ruelas lets face it the Tampa Bay Rays have the highest batting average in the LEAGUE.
