    Im doing the complete opposite of you - I’m researching everything on the Z4, dating between 2009 and 2014 and came across your video. I’m looking for one in exactly your colour, hard top but the lighter colour (white? cream?)seats. I don’t really care which engine size I’ll end up with because I just really love the aesthetic of this car. Oh, and it has to be a manual and not auto. I want to get it as a Sunday/weekend/holiday/road trip car. At the moment I drive an Audi A3 1.4TFSi sedan (2015 model which I bought in 2017) and I will never get rid of it. My wife drives a 2022 Audi Q3 1,4 TFSi. Both are auto so they are perfect for stop/go traffic and even better on the open road. Another big reason for having my mind set on a Z4, is that the design of the car reminds me a lot of Audi in the sense that most Audi models from now and decades ago feel like the design doesn’t feel dated. Oh, and we live in Sourh Africa where the weather is absolutely perfect for a convertible or roadster. Thanks for this video. I’ve subscribed and will check out what else you have to offer. This is the first of your videos I’ve come across.

    I LOVE this E89. I have almost the same. Mine is a 2016 28i m-sport in sapphire-black metallic and red leather interior. I enjoy it EVERY minute even when I do not drive it, because the car is also extremely sexy to look at, especially in shiny black. It is just very thirsty and sometimes a bit uncomfortable on bad roads. But I do not think I will EVER part with it, because I love it sooo much.

    Ive owned this car with a slightly bigger engine for over 6.5 years. My thoughts…
    - Agreed, don’t get runflats
    - Love driving it on a sunny day
    - Still get compliments
    - The hard/soft top is fantastic for all seasons
    - Only issues I’ve had are cracked wheel (result of run flats) and replaced one rear light unit due to a leak.
    Great car, will also be sad to see mine go.

Next up will be the dual turbos… so far so good.. I don’t thrash the car and only did 1600 mls last year. The hard top roof can be a bit squeaky, so make sure you lube the mechanism. Does it put a smile on my face… yes, but I do miss my z3 2.2.. it was cheap, lighter and not trying to compete with a Porsche.

    18i is the slowest but it shares the same 2.0L engine as the 28i (and 20i) you could have gotten a remap to remove the limit BMW put on the slower models.

    I changed mine to non- run flat tyres (19 inch) and also fitted a Bilstein B9 adjustable and lowered, suspension kit... The vehicle drives better but it is still a very disappointing drive.. If you fancy a vehicle for fun driving buy a Porsche Cayman.. Not the Z4..
    It is fun for driving with the roof down and it can drive along better than many vehicles... But for me it has never given me any sporty driving..
    My Z4 is a third car so I already have other practical and very nice vehicles to use. But the Z4 is a nice vehicle to sit in and it is comfortable and reasonably practical for a 2 seater..
    Be sure to have a good drive and see if you like it before buying..

    • @sybrenhenstra
      @sybrenhenstra 2 года назад

      You are right! The set of the suspension set up with too much understeer has been critised a lot, especially also in Germany on the internet forums and ao by AutoBild. There are a number of companies in Germany, who have specialised in developing modifications, which should make the understeer something of the past. Principally, they advivce Eibach Prokit springs, H & R shocks, no RFTS, 19" wheels and a adaptation of the suspension set up. No RFT will do a lot, lowering springs not so much, better shocks/a trackrace switch in case of adaptive suspension (factory option) will also help, but the change of suspension set up makes all the difference. I am plnaning to have this done on my Z4 Sdrive 3.0i.

  • @joebloggs4191
    @joebloggs4191 2 года назад

    Maybe you need a heavier engine in the front instead of the weedy 18i if you find the steering is washed out. I have the 30i and whilst not as sharp as say a Boxster the handling and steering really isn’t that bad. Heck even Clarkson the man himself was pretty impressed with this gen Z4! Also ditching the runflats will make a huge difference to the ride and handling, night and day difference! I think the weight distribution is pretty much 50/50 too.

    • @andylove9961

    You are absolutely right. The run flat tires are a real pain in the ass. After replacing it full with set of tires, there is space for a spare tire. Run flat tires are very, very uncomfortable, very bad on pot holes, man holes, speed bumps, railway crossings. I just hate them. One run flat run tire cost about $400 dollars. I am still stuck with the run flat tires. I keep hearing full size tires are not recommended for the Z4 sDrive 35is. Need advice on what to do with the tires.

      Thanks for the comment Ken! I’ve heard similar stories about putting ‘regular’ tyres on a Z4, but not 100% sure what real difference they make. I’ve just persevered with them (mind you, a few nails + general wear over the years were a costly to replace). There’s some good communities on FB which I found helpful for answering questions such as yours. I chose to not experiment with my Z4 (which I regret), I literally left it stock throughout my time with it.

    LIke the former and famous 3 twatty hosts of TG on BBC, i don't know why it is that reviews of certain cars in the UK, come across as sanctimonious. Why moan about the car when you made the choice to buy it. There are other engine options. (*yes i've lived where fuel is 3 euro pro litre. ). I"ve owned an LR3 with a large V8 that would cost me 150 euro to fill up. Only in England where the majority of vehicles owned by the denizens of the UK are 2.0L or under in displacement. I have had the E85 Z4M, E85 Z4 3.0si and currently an E89 Z4 sdrive 3.0 (same N52B30A as my 2007 BMW Z. My rather long winded point (still shorter than this video), the cars do a lot of things exceptionally well. It' isn't a supercar so why bring it up? Here's some advice. Only buy inline 6 motors. Be advised the 4 cyl dual scroll turbo motors are the worst choice you can make and i wish BMW would stop offering these during the paradigm shift from dino juice powered engines to electrons/ions. You want handling, buy a mk 1,2,3 Miata and tune it. You want Power, buy a 911. You want a balance of the aforementioned? Get the Z. You don't like RF tires? Change to traditional and carry a tire puncture kit and a compressor. How's British Leyland these days? oh, that's right...
