      Yeees. So glad Vince Gilligan's metaphores are getting through. The man is a master of his craft. And I will absolutely follow him to his next works after Better Call Saul. I think this show shows that he can absolutely find new amazing talent with actors, as every new character in this show were fantastic. And as much as it hurts to see these actors part ways, assuming this is the end for the Breaking Bad Universe, he has given me plenty of reason to expect great works of art from him in the future

    There's countless reasons why Bagman is regarded as one of the best of the Breaking Bad universe. Nonetheless, I have to highlight the cinematography. Alongside the scenes showcasing the beautiful desolation of the New Mexico desert, and of course the visual storytelling in the action sequences, the interior sequences are stunning as well. Just look at the lighting when Kim says "I don't want you to do it". Vince Gilligan has gone on record as saying that this was the hardest episode of either series to shoot thus far. With him back in the writers room for the upcoming final season, and Rhea Seehorn promising that it's "going to be chaos", I simply cannot fathom what's going to come. For as utterly heartbroken as I am that the Breaking Bad universe will have it's final curtain call soon, it's eclipsed by how grateful I am that it exists to begin with.

      Weird how iconic & character defining the vehicles of BB & BCS have been. Jimmy's Esteem with the mismatched door, contrasted with Saul's "LWYRUP" white Cadillac, Jesse's flashy bouncing Monte Carlo lowrider with the license plate referencing his meth-cooking nickname, soon replaced with the anonymous compact shitbox with peeling weatherstripping in an early sign of Jesse smartening up & growing as a character, Walt's Pontiac Aztec, eventually replaced with the Chrysler 300 SRT-8 in a late sign of him giving into greed & corruption and maybe starting to get a little stupid, as even Gus's boring 12 year old Volvo is the perfect example of him "hiding in plain sight" that Walter ultimately fails to live up to with his Chrysler.

    Not seen the episode yet, just enjoying the discussion at the start. However I disagree with Milena saying Saul wasn't that bad of a guy in BB. Sure he drew the line with Walt and the ricin stuff about Brock; but everything else was fair game for him. He was still happy tampering evidence, money laundering, helping setup drug labs, and putting ideas in Walt's head about murder. That's all pretty dark stuff, and I think that's what we might see him do with the cab driver from ABQ in the black and white segments; that murder might be the final line he crosses to become overwhelmingly corrupt.

    This is my favorite episode in the whole show. It seems heavily inspired by the classic Sopranos episode, "Pine Barrens" where Chris and Paulie are lost in the woods during the winter and have to find their way back home. Like you said, it's similar to the Breaking Bad episode, "4 Days Out" where Walt and Jesse are stuck in the dessert. Only difference is they had an RV at least to rest in. Saul and Mike are hitch hiking the whole way back with two 125 pound bags. This episode essentially cements the relationship between Saul and Mike.

    I don't know why, but for some reason the Lalo/Kim scene is easily one of my favorite scenes in the show. Something about how Lalo says "and you...? looove him..." is super charming. It shows that Lalo likes to solve a puzzle, and until that very moment he didn't understand what was going on, but after that moment he realized that she was there out of love which made Lalo smile because such a thing is rare to encounter in his line of work.

      I understand that Walt killed Mike. But how did he mess up his money? In the Gus case, Walter was just acting in self defense of Jesse, Hank, and his whole family on multiple occasions. Most of Walter's moves against Gus were to protect somebody else. Then, when Mike lost his money the 2nd time, it was because he trusted a non-Saul lawyer, which got caught and snitched on Mike, he failed to vet that guy. You could say he never had an opportunity to make that money back because of Walt sure, but he didn't mess everything up. Also I may be wrong but I think Jesse would send money to their family at the end of El Camino but maybe that was just Brock idk.

    Mike's granddaughter took the money Jesse left her! So it was not for nothing, Mike got his justice!

    • @briangonigal3974
      @briangonigal3974 2 года назад

      Jesse never left it to her; Saul talked him out of it by explaining (quite correctly) that with the Feds keeping such a close eye, there's no way they could possibly get the money to her or her mother without the Feds seizing it. All of Jesse's money was seized by the Feds after he had his mental breakdown and tried to give it all away by tossing it out his car window. In El Camino he manages to end up with all of Todd's share of the 12 million of Walt's fortune that the Neo-Nazis stole from Walt, but he needed a good chunk of that to pay Ed The Disappearer to get him to Alaska, and if there's any left over that he wants to give away, his first priority would probably be to try to get it to Brock.

    Notice the colour of their lights. Jimmy's colour this entire series has been "gold" because he's about "just making money" and Mike's colour is "green" because that was Walt's colour.

    My only issue with this episode is how did Mike get to the desert? He must have driven, thus he must have a car.
    So, why didn't Mike take Jimmy back to HIS car? How explanation is that Mike was worried for some reason to go back to his car.

    • @dan1216
      @dan1216 2 года назад +3

      Mike drove a pick-up truck, and it sustained damage in the shootout, so they took Saul's car (until it conked out, too).

      Also, there’s a scene where Mike opens the gas cap since he most likely placed a tracker to track Jimmy (think back when Mike was getting tracked in Season 3).

    I love this episode but I have never understood how the writers expected us to buy the fact that Mike took out all these guys. I mean there was about 60 seconds that elapsed from the time they stopped Jimmy and then decided to kill them. How is it possible that Mike was following them in his car (far enough away that they hadn’t noticed him), then saw that they had stopped Jimmy, and then got up to higher ground, unpacked his sniper rifle, and then started shooting people… All in about 60 seconds. I mean cmon guys.

    • @briangonigal3974
      @briangonigal3974 2 года назад +1

      It's already been established (well..., at least heavily implied in the scene where he goes shopping for sniper rifles from the gun dealer that will later sell Walt his snub nose 38) that Mike was a sniper in Vietnam. And while not yet explicitly mentioned on the show, Vince Gilligan has claimed that Mike's backstory was that he was actually Special Forces. I'd think if anyone could do what we saw in the ep it was an ex Special Forces vet with lots of real-world combat experience. (BTW, this would also mean that Mike probably had a history of coldly & dispassionately killing people long before he was even a corrupt cop getting vengeance on his son's murder, suggesting that the real reason he was so hesitant to accept hitman jobs from Nacho or Gus is that he knows how easy it would be for him to slip back into that mindset and become the contented Button Man/Fixer we meet in Breaking Bad.

    • @DaveyPB
      @DaveyPB 2 года назад +1

      @@briangonigal3974 that’s just an answer about Mike being a good sniper. That is not really the issue. The problem is that there is no realistic way he could have got to a position to be taking a shot in the 60seconds after Jimmy was stopped. I know everyone loves to defend every single thing that the writers do in this show as being meticulous/flawless - but that is just not the case here. It’s unrealistic.

    After all of the trouble Lalo was causing Gus even from behind bars, Gus needed Lalo gone. Lalo loose is bad for Gus, so Gus also needed Lalo out of the US, as Gus cannot touch him in the US without starting a war with the cartel bosses.
    Gus knows that the first thing Lalo will do is skip town and dip back to Mexico. Good.
    Fleeing the US after being bailed out forfeits bail money.
    The cartel would have to send someone new to oversee Salamanca family operations, unfortunately there's not many left, and deciding who would take time. Lalo would have to approve them, and the only other I know of would be a teen right now, the one Jessie shoots later in BB.
    Gus also knows the amount of bail and how much it will hurt the Salamancas to be responsible for using that much cartel money to bail Lalo out. Also good for Gus.
    So, Gus sent Mike to watch over the money exchange. If anything went bad, it would be on Gus, as it is in his territory. Seeing as how Jimmy was followed and attacked immediately after the hand off, and the phone call earlier, it suggests to me that the attackers could even be sent by the cartel to pop Jimmy, steal the money, and frame Gus, thereby destroying his reputation. The cartel would recover the seven million, and pretend they know nothing of killing Jimmy. Lalo would still be in jail, except now it would fall to Gus to make up the money the cartel "lost" out of his own pocket, to get Lalo out of jail for not ensuring everything went smoothly. Gus did not fall for it.
    The Salamancas are nominally the ones in charge of that area due to family relations. Gus is subservient to them, in Don Eladio's eyes, as Gus's operation is less profitable. As shown a few times, Gus can outdo them occasionally, but really needs the lab running to make it an everyday occurrence, and then the Salamancas will be the underdogs with Gus in charge.
