      The point of it is to ostensibly have fater moving limbs because they weigh less at the same draw weight, but the science is pretty shaky when it comes to results. Another idea is its to cope with lower quality wood possibly.

    • @gandalf2447
      @gandalf2447 7 месяцев назад +905

      @@xijinpingsfavoritehemorrho1328The Penobscot made these bows because the wood in their region was a poorer quality and in order to achieve draw weights comparable to other hunting bows, they had to have the second bow in the front, which enhances the main bow’s strength. A Penobscot bow. Developed by nomadic tribes in areas with wood that was not robust enough to harbor the traditional bow design. I believe it was heavily employed by the inuit.
    Penobscots allow you to have greater pull weight at the costs of reduced draw length, some extra weight, and non-optimal bow material (assuming you made one with traditional material)

    12:23, that’s the magical moment for me, and then that jump at the end of that incredible build up of strings to the re-introduction of the main theme in that glorious coda!!! That jump is pure Bernstein, a musical force of nature!!! I recently saw a concert conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen, a conductor I hadn’t seen in quite a while (an all-Sibelius repertoire including some rarely heard encores amongst Finlandia, his Violin Concerto, and his 1st Symphony), and I was reminded just how similar to Bernstein he really is in his style. I would never call them theatrical. They move a lot, certainly, but more importantly, they move with their orchestra and with the music (I would italicize “with” both times if I knew how to on RUclips). Every movement seems dramatic and balletic and beautiful to witness, but always reasonable in the context of the emotion of what is being played. Nothing ever seems frivolous or “showy”. Such talents, the both of them, and of course it helps that they usually have superb orchestras under their direction (in Salonen’s case, his last year with the San Francisco Symphony). I love this overture, thank you for posting!!!

It's about the simplicity and the spirit, a "connection" of the archer with the arrow, the bow, the target, and even the earth on which the archer stands. Traditional archery, bow making, arrow making, and shooting well, consistently, is as much about feeling as the mechanical/physical actions.
