Best Metal Cutting Miter Saw for the MONEY? (Evolution RAGE3 w/ Bed Fix)

- I'm a huge fan of my Evolution Miter saw it has loads of bang for the buck and is always up for any task I've thrown at it. Coupled with the Diablo Blade it's an absolute powerhouse. The only issue I ever had with it is the "support wings" did not sit level to the miter section the saw is mounted to. Any smaller stock cut would get unwanted angles and there would be no way to lock it down.
Always a fan of a cheap fix and using the tools on hand in this video I set out to right this wrong on a budget. Enjoy!
***UPDATE***
I've been informed the NEW version of this saw does not have the issues of the older model.

You my friend are one happy man. Love it. I’m actually looking at getting this saw and came across your channel. Subscribed! Great video
Andy Martin Thank you! Just bringing a little joy to my corner of the internet. 😁
Super appreciate the sub and you taking a moment to leave feedback. I have some links to the new upgrade version of this saw that does not need this modification in the description. Also that Diablo blade that turns this saw into a beast. 😉🙌🏼
House of Chop I’m now thinking maybe a chop saw just meant for metal. They seems to be more accurate from some of the reviews I’ve seen.
It’s so nice to see and listen/watch someone positive!

Came here for a review on the saw, you even showed me how to fix it if I want to. Just subscribed
Thank you! For the money that’s a badass little saw. Still using the heck out if it.
@@HouseofChop you guys showing guys new to metalcutting how to cut metal using a wood saw is totally irresponsible with no vise is a serious accident looking for a place to happen. I use dry cuts every day and they are really dangerous especially 45 degree cuts!! the blade moves the material as it enters and your holding with your hand !! Totally insane. GUYS BUY A METALCUTTING SAW LIKE A EVOLUTION OR MAKITA AND KEEP YOUR FINGERS!!
@@brianpatrick8441 It is designed for metal cutting. Evolution calls it a Multi-material saw. As for hand holding things it’s a good point and if one is going to use any tool they should know best practices. As you well know sometimes that’s just not feasible.
Nice work Phil! The teeter-test...it's a thing!
Iron Shepherd Forge Hahahaha! It is!!!
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave a comment. Super appreciate it 🔥👍🏼🔥
I have the same saw and will be making the same modification! Have to calculate it to mm 😉
Tom Wagemans It was a quick and needed fix! Good luck 🔥👍🏼🔥
great video....I still need one of those saws
Thank you Kyle. Appreciate you taking the time to check out what I'm doing over here. That little saw gets it done. An excellent option for a hobbyist or a shop on a budget. 🔥👍🏼🔥
That was a great idea, buddy, greetings from Colombia
Daniel Boom Thank you watching and taking a moment to comment. I hope you’ll consider subscribing. 🙌🏼🙇🏻
That little change made the saw 110% better. I use it all the time. Real value for the money here .
Top video Phil 👌 I've got the exact saw, and at some point I will need to put some time aside and copy your mod , without the use of your amazing folder, bit jealous to be honest 😂 👍
Darrell Olsen Thank you Darrell. It’s a quick fix won’t take you much time at all. If it weren’t for the camera I would have knocked it right out.
That mag brake is awesome. I get stoked every time I hit the button and I hear the magnet lock up the metal. It would be an easy bend though with a few clamps and angle iron. 🔥👍🏼🔥
Another great video and fix! Awesome work Master Chop! Lol
classicmustangs429 Hahahaha! Thank you for having look. Appreciate it. 🔥👍🏼🔥
Good modification. I've liked all of the Evolution saws I've used but found little issues like that on each one.
Thanks Alan! That saw has been quite the work horse for the money. I’d buy another one 🔥👍🏼🔥
Awesome video Phil. That mag brake is sick!
Nice save Chop 🤜🏽
glenn lickers Thank you Glenn. It worked out pretty good 🔥👍🏼🔥
Pretty cool! Cool, you know what your doing!!!!
Excellent video Phil! Love your vibe! I do have one question though... in regards to the gap you fixed, what about the 16ga. gap created under the backing plate, nearest to the blade path? Obviously it won’t matter with pipe, tube, angle iron, and most stock... but what happens when you have to cut a smaller 16ga. piece, will it move under that gap? Not criticizing, only asking if that has been an issue yet! Thanks again for the great content, keep up the fantastic work!!
Thank you. Keeping it fun and light is important to me.
I appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. 🔥👍🏼🔥
More on Instagram @house.of.chop
You have a great eye. Anything 16ga and smaller would slip right under there.
For how I use the saw that won't matter much. I cut most of my sheet on the band saw but it would be a consideration for anyone who was using it that way. It's also important to note the latest version of this saw does not require this fix.
I have a link for it in the description. 😉
awesome video Chop ,should be a vast improvement
Thank you Mark! I ran a few tests and it's easy to get clean cuts now. 🔥👍🏼🔥
Well, I know what I'll be doing next weekend!
Let's Fabricate Awesome! Let me know how it works out Cody 🔥👍🏼🔥
Awesome video chop 🔥🔥🔥
Chris Wojnarski Appreciate it Chris! Thank you for watching. 🔥👍🏼🔥
Great video. 👍👍
Bulldog Welding LLC Thank you Aaron 🔥👍🏼🔥
Nice video. What blade is that you are using on it?
Lonnie's Garage (Puppetkicker) Thank you. Appreciate you watching and taking the time to leave a comment. More over on Instagram @house.of.chop
The blade is a DIABLO Steel Demon:
amzn.to/2WGVYOd
It’s a beast of a saw with that blade on it and it’s lasted longer that I expected.
@@HouseofChop good deal. I've got this same saw and also their 14" cold cut saw. I've also got videos on here as well and I'll give you a follow on Instagram. Keep the good videos coming.
Lonnie's Garage (Puppetkicker) I jumped over and subbed to your channel. Awesome content man. 🔥👍🏼🔥
Nice fix !!
Thank you. It’s an awesome saw it just needed a little help. 😉🙌🏼
OK where did you buy this Saw how much was it and where can I find one do you have the complete model number so I get the right one is it a 10 inch or the 7 1/4 I am really interested in this thing and do you use standard carbide tip wood blades are they special steel cutting blades. Jim
Jim Jackson Thank you Jim for taking a moment to watch! The saw is right around $240 I got it on amazon link in the description will take you right to it. The updated one is nicer than the one you see here. It comes with a multi material blade that can cut wood or metal and they also sell dedicated blades. My favorite for metal being the Diablo which also has a link in the description. If you have any other questions don’t hesitate to reach out. 🔥👍🏼🔥
Nice fix, but for price of the Evolution they should fix it in the first place....but nice work...
jan boeilerehauge Thank you. This is a much older saw. They did correct it in the models that came after it. Still it was my only complaint otherwise this little saw has done a ton of work for me.
Hi Chop, nice vid about the mitresaw 'upgrade'! First time I heard of this machine, looks awesome! Unfortunately can't find the exact same model here in the Netherlands.
Question about yours, what's the maximum thickness of metal you can saw with this saw?
Redmer van Delden Thank you! I’m betting you can’t find it because there is a newer one that has come out since. I’ve had this for quite awhile. 😉
The thickest I have ever cut with it is 3/8th 9mm(ish) steel angle but I’m willing to bet it would go through much thicker. It’s just about how fast you move the saw. If you take it easy and let it work I bet you could cut anything you could get under that blade.
That Diablo blade I have in the description is the key.
I also have a link for the updated saw there too. Have a look and see if you can get it sent to you. 😉
House of Chop thanks! I will check it out, and start saving to replace my current abrasive saw!
Buena idea pero yo le hubiera quitado un poco a la pieza del centro y rectifico ése detalle menos trabajo y no se altera la estética de la maquina 😮
Good content! Thanks for sharing. I just ran across your video. I'm looking for a new way to cut steel. I am using a buddy's HF cold cut with an abrasive blade. It's really bad.
So what's the difference between the Rage and, say, the Evo 380? I can't figure out the difference. I like how the blade swivels and tilts on the Rage, as opposed to the 380.
Also, have you had any issues with melting the plastic in the kerf? Thanks
Ted Hargiss Thank you for watching and the kind words. 🙌🏼🙇🏻
The biggest difference between the two saws would be the blade size. 10” on the Miter 15” on the 380. So the 380 can handle bigger material. The trade off is the miter features available on the smaller saw.
I’ve had no issues with heat or plastic melting. Every thing comes off the saw cool to the touch. 🔥👍🏼🔥
Hf doesn't makes a cold cut saws only abrasive saws
@@HouseofChop Dang......See....I don't want a compound miter....I want a saw 12 in or 14in miter saw that swing both left and right .....Not the mount like a chop saw....But a real miter saw.....but for metal....Oh and that will not break the bank.....The size of the EVO 380 is Great, but I want a miter saw. Maybe then I can get the accuracy and get rid Of my HF horz. bandsaw.
Bobby Wartman Oh you are not the only one. The first company that makes one will sell a ton of them. Seriously I can’t imagine how it hasn’t been done yet. It’s right there for the grabbing.
+20 for the use of Johnson wax!
Knowing your history of utilizing cardboard CAD, I’m wondering why you didn’t glue the paper down to some cardboard before trying to trace those pesky paper edges?
Flawless video otherwise! 💥🔥👍🏾
Tool Scrounge I put that wax on everything! 🤣🙌🏼
House of Chop me too, it’s a great finish!
Awesome vid as usual and I’m digging the music!
Thanks Lex! Thought I'd switch it on them with the music a bit. I'm delighted you approve. 🔥👍🏼🔥
Do angle grinders blades fit into miter and circular saws ?
Now you've just gotta find a way to keep the band saw from sliding away
Good eye! I usually use it on the floor. I've been attempting to walk upright like a human and decided to give my benches and tables a shot. Looks like I need to clamp something behind it. 🔥👍🏼🔥
Nice!
Nice video. What is arbor size on your saw ? 1inch or metric? Also what rom does it run at?
RPM not rom poor proofreading.
Chad Pedigo Thank you! It spins at 2500 and the arbor is 1” 🔥👍🏼🔥
Think I woulda just used a light smear of adhesive.
Now you say something 😁🙌🏼
What brand of blades do you use?
Mr. DIY how to painting welding fabrication The Diablo blades do work and last 😉🙌🏼
www.amazon.com/DIABLO-10-50T-Steel/dp/B06XPPHYPG
@@HouseofChop ok my rage blades didnt last
Why not just return it and get one that’s not defective?
That’s the way they were made then and there was no other saw on the market to replace it with. It was and still is the Evo miter saw or nothing for multi material. Since then they improved the saw and it’s no longer like this. 😉
Why did you unfollow so many people
rafael ortiz I don’t believe I did. Not sure what you’re talking about.
Oh and I forgot I am a subscriber I do believe in that I’m having trouble with people subscribing to my channel so I know how hard it is to get subscribers. Jim
Nice flat.
Boan Chen Thank you 🔥👍🏼🔥
I searched best metal not this!
Well thank you for sharing!
change the title to "How I modified my miter saw"
The title says it all. That saw is serious bang for the buck it just needed a tweak to make it great
Thanks looks like its cheap
Lots of bang for the buck with that one
Mr. charisma, never mind you. Get on with the subject matter! & get rid of the sound/noise audio!
One can only imagine the joy of having you around.
Why you talk like this!
Ouroboros Didn’t realize I did. Growing up in New York maybe? 😉
Or just buy a better miter saw
Why throw out a good saw? Few bucks and a short bit of time and it’s perfect.
