I knew him first as a host of a talk radio show at Power 101 FM. It was the first privately owned radio station after Malawi became a democratic state. It was one the kind of radio shows we first got exposed to during the dawn of democracy in Malawi back in the late 90's. Informative, educative and enlightening as a radio presenter, he exposed us to critical thinking as opposed to indoctrinating type of education. I was hoping to hear him again as a broadcaster somewhere some day but like many others we will miss him forever.
Later during his stint at Power 101 FM is when l learnt that along side Bunny Rugs and Cat Coore, he was one of the founding members of one the biggest reggae bands, Third World. Then I only knew their hits like 'Reggae Ambassador , Now That We Have Found Love, 96° In the Shade etc' without knowing the names behind the songs and the band.
Rest in Power the Legend Michael Ibo Cooper.

Igbo or Ibo, whatever you prefer to identify him with is the best Reggae keyboard player EVER. Ibo and Cat along with Richie and Willie I believe were great rhythm makers and their style was contagious. Ibo has played some of the BEST intros and solos in Reggae music history, just listen to Third World Albums during his tenure and you'll concur. Romance in Paradise with your wife Joy, you'll be truly missed.

Micheal Ibo Cooper was my schoolmates' favorite among Third World's members while growing up in boarding school in the 80s....He had always the cut of something of an intellectual to me back then at a time when I virtually knew nothing about his life and academic pursuits. I had read several of his interviews though...Ibo Cooper was also the main driving force behind the Music is life and Land of Africa projects which resulted in the Land Africa Charity track featuring a few top reggae artists of the moment such as Third World, Steel Pulse, Gregory Isaacs, Mutabaruka, Freddie McGregor, The I-Three, Edi Fitzroy and Tristan Palmer, A relief effort for the famine victims of Ethiopia in 1985....RIP IBO.. You'll ever be in our ❤️ Hearts

Thank you for telling about Land of Africa Charity track. I will try to find it.
I knew Ibo from attending the same high school at one point.
The Inner Circle Band actually played at our high school Graduation Ball in 1969. He was their keyboard player and foundation member.
That was before he formed the Third World Band along with Cat Coore , famed guitarist and cellist.

Thank you so much for creating and posting this video.
I knew him from school days as he went to Knox College Junior School before attending Jamaica College.
Knox was very close to his original home in Spladings.
I was always impressed not only of his musical expertise but also of his humility.
Ride high Ibo and thanks for the music you recorded....
