Rock the World, You've Got The Power, Arise, Committed are some of their greatest work...The band even held its own even without Mighty Bunny Rugs with Black Gold and Green and recent Grammy nominated (Nomination number 9) album More Work To Do in 2019 (AJ Brown did a fantastic job on lead vox).....
Blessings Reggae Appreciation. When I first heard Third World their sound was/is just absolutely captivating. They brought a uniqueness that I don't think many can rival the extremely beautiful sound's of Third World creativity. 🎼🎼🎼💜🖤💜🎼🎼🎼
At last... blessings brother & thanks so much for covering up a story on this band who are on near their 50th anniversary. I've been a big Third World fan since i was a lil' dude, grew up to some of their songs & got to appreciate them more as I grew up. I get why they recieve so much backlash & criticism but they stayed true to their word of branching on to other genres. Journey to Addis had a funk influence, Story's Been Told had disco, Sense of Purpose had electro funk, Serious Business had hip hop, Committed had dancehall & so on. They blended all genres all underneath their Reggae core. I even got to see them live in 2011 as they put out their album Patriots. Sadly Bunny Rugs & Carrott would pass on to a better place but the band added AJ Brown & kept soldiering on, still touring to this day. I have 75% of their discography. A reggae band that held on to love, got the power, rose in harmony, livin' it up, rocked the world, all the way strong with a sense of purpose & still ain't givin' up. The wonderful third world story has finally been told & should be appreciated for all future generations coming. Preach & Jah Bless

Third World 96 degree in the shade was the smash that propel the group to four corners of the world spreading reggae music and their type of reggae music was unique and different because they had cross over tunes.
One of the best bands whatever the genre not only reggae. Technically on a class of their own like Steel Pulse. The voice of Bunny Rugs was simply unique.
I first met these guys in 1978 when they did a free concert near Gov Headquarters in Barbados. Then in 1984 they returned for a big concert at the national stadium and I was a part of the sound crew.. I worked at foh with the then engineer from england called David if my memory serves me correctly. I recorded the show on a 90 min cassette but unfortunately lost it in 87 when I took it with me on vacation in New York.. A great and down to earth set of musicians... One of my fav jamaican bands ..

I believe you meant 1969 not 1959. Also the first lead singer was Prilly Hamilton who left after the first album was released.Rugs joined them after that. They show no signs of slowing down, performing at the Jazz Cafe on London this week.🎶🌴🇯🇲
I am not whether I saw them live somewhere in the USA in the 80s or not, as I went to many concerts. But they were clearly up there for me with the best of the best reggae fusion groups doing their thing back then. Obviously I had all their albums of the era.

Growing up in Southern California, being the youngest out of my four older brothers. I don’t remember a time in my life that we didn’t listen to Reggae music in our home. Journey to Addis was my introduction to Third World around 1980 that I can remember as a 6 year old I remember I would be home before my brothers got home from school and play that vinyl on the home stereo. Cool Meditation, African Woman, One Cold Vibe, Rejoice where my favorites. But the title track Journey to Addis was like mindful travel thru the music. They blew my mind and I was only a little kid. The Album Prisoner in the Street and the album You’ve got the Power always remind me of weekends at my parents house with my brothers washing and cleaning their vehicles in our driveway and backyard. Grilling meat listening to music. Beautiful times in our lives. Seen them live a couple times San Diego California also. Without a doubt Third World is on a league of their own, like this video says.
