Hey guys! I hope this video helps you guys out when it comes to how to actually fly your jet while employing LGB's instead of just the Buttons required, the aim of my channel is always to teach how to FLY the jet as well as what buttons to press!
Hi Spudknocker, Once again a great video, thx! I’d like to add my 2 cents here... In many aircraft the standby instruments are conveniently placed quite closely to the right MFD (definitely in the F-16 and F-18, but others too). If you don’t zoom in too far you can still see those instruments and keep a good situational awareness about the attitude of the aircraft. Cheers and keep up the good work!
Right after the bomb was dropped you can bank left (and ascend), so you keep the target to the right of the pod again (exactly same principle as you use when running in) and keep that separation from the target, then when the target is at your 9 o clock you can circle the target again, you can keep eyes on with the tgp the entire time if you do it properly. You want to prevent flying over the target in my opinion.
After viewing the manual and several other RUclips tutorials, your detailed video did the trick. knowing how to properly enable and guide GBU's effectively with my recently purchased F16 -- Priceless. Thank You!
Hi, I love this video! Most focus solely on press this and press that but there is so much to it. I was practising last night and my struggle is finding things in the first place whilst flying the aircraft. I was trying to initially slew using my hud but I was struggling to set it to do so. End result was my first LGBs and JDAMs on fixed and moving targets. So rewarding. Your videos help so much for us beginners. Thank you!
One thing I was hoping to see in this video was handling LGB employment in less comfortable airspace, like when flying high, straight and level is not a good idea due to hostile dangers, or it might be necessary to turn away from a threat. In addition to this it would be interesting to see if there is a way to handle high speed ground targets, as I've found that LGBs (in my expecrience) can only impact ground targets traveling under a certain speed.
Flying high, fast and wings level to keep up that sweet energy is actually the best way to handle even high threat airspace. 1. It saves fuel giving better range and loiter time 2. It will increase the bomb's stand-off range 3. Some SAM systems can simply not engage targets above ~21kft / ~33kft 4. If you get engaged by air threats or SAMs you can either expend that energy for speed or evasive manouvers either increasing the size of your escape window or making it possible to fly closer But if the airspace is highly contested it is better to stay away and let dedicated CAP/SEAD deal with the threat before commiting to a strike. Finally, LGBs by their nature require a high altitude and smooth flight as to not mask the pod. If that is simply not possible given a combat environment it is better to choose a different ordinance that better suits that task, say, for fast moving vehicles, Mavericks, cluster bombs or runs with unguided rockets and bombs might be better.
Only in very specific situations and aircraft is it applicable to fly close to the ground and use terrain masking as an advantage. Three examples would be the A10, Harrier and Viggen.
The procedure to follow is: 1 You see target 2 You Identify Friend or Foe 3 if Foe Make sure u have the most unfair advantage possible then finish it off.
Great video Tutorial. For future reference, fewer swishes of the mouse while interacting with the control buttons so we noobs can get a clear idea of what buttons you are clicking.
Great collection of tips there, aaaaas always, that often get overlooked. If only the Viper had a switch to turn on/off the JHMCS like the Hornet has. Decluttering the HUD usually takes away the things I'd like to see like the tapes or even the pitch ladder or TVV while the things I don't need to concentrate on things for like Mach number, Gs, a plethora of waypoint information that could be densed down, arming status etc all stay on. So I always end up never using the declutter functions at all. Trimming the F-16 especially can be tedious though. Bad thing about DCS is that the trim sensitivity is directly linked to the frame rate. So if you're running at 30fps or less, you virtually don't have a chance to trim this bird out completely. Luckily, the thing does have an AP with good authority that can keep up with dropping a bomb (as long as it's not a 2klb one) or firing off a Maverick which the Hornet's one isn't capable of. One thing to consider is mapping the two switches directly with the same pattern as in the cockpit to QAZ and WSX and the HDG Set knob to 1 and 2. That's a bunch of keys very easy to find even with a VR headset on, especially if you've got an old school gap in between the A and CANTERLOCK keys. As for the throttle: It's a good habit of keeping track of your speed and AoA while actually flying the fuel flow, unless you're flying in formation, of course. It directly relates to how long you can be up there and especially when flying wide circles around and away from target areas, the last thing you want is running out of fuel because you ran at full MIL at just 10k or below. In most western fighters it's a good figure to have the fuel flow around 3000pph per engine for range/endurance with a clean airframe, around 4000-6000 for a loaded one (there's a difference even with endurance being less, but both are somewhere around that value). The Hornet displays a 100th of it and the Tomcat tape numbers are a 1000th of it. So watch for 30 and 3 respectively in those. When flying gently, that is enough to keep you up. Just crosscheck your speed and AoA, but also the FF itself from time to time to make sure, you're still in the right area, especially since the FF directly depends on your airspeed (and altitude). If you drop it to 3k at M 0.95, you might end up running at just 2k, getting slower and slower past the point where you want to be, so you have to add in some throttle to make it stay where you want it. Flying the FF keeps you knowing about how long you can play before having to RTB and after getting some experience with it, you will roughly be able to estimate your range by that as well. When having to RTB with little fuel, climb with full MIL and select the altitude by the fuel flow you aim at. You'll usually end up at somewhere around 35-45k with that and you'll get the best Mach (or GS) / fuel flow up there plus the extra energy in form of altitude. You can roughly make every 1000ft of altitude into 2nm of travel on idle in most fighter jets. Knowing that will make you panic much less when you have to RTB with just 1200lb of fuel left and 100nm back to the base... just use it to climb to 40k and as you hit 80nm on your DME, cut throttles to idle and save up your fuel for the pattern and landing.
Thanks for posting this. Because of my lack of experience however, I'm curious about the mention of a trigger button that is used after the drop? This apparently triggers the laser? What button is that that should be bound?
great video ! I will move soon from FSX to DCS and my fav aircraft is the F/A 18 Hornet C..is it possibble to do also one video for this aircraft? thank you and always 3 greens
Hi Spud, nice video. I noticed you didn't mention the A-10C in the list of aircraft that can self-designate, and then I noticed that you've never (as far as I could see) filmed a video with it. Is it just an aircraft that doesn't interest you? I know it's a bit of a love-it or hate-it jet. Keep up the nice work!

Now shifty, , cap Drewski are fun and informative they say and do like you say they tell you to push this button they go rather fast and we're English and I can't even understand a word they say ...lol. The only thing I see with missions is you yourself don't do enough I know it's late are you stand back and let your boys go in and girls but I'd like to see you do more like the rescue pilot that was an excellent one except you feel around in circles when I think you could've went in and blown them part apart faster. But I get it it's entertainment . So far i'm going to get a beginner set of planes before I get enough 16 F 18 and hairrier which I really want to fly...I may ask for some help?? but not for several weeks... Yes again this one really helps even though it's several weeks down the line I've kept it because the beginner ones are really boring but I get it
It's a bit like learning to drive a stick shift car isn't it. First you learn slowly and need to think about what you're doing. When u just got the drivers license you can't actually drive yet. That comes after you drive around your car, and get experience. Then you park the car without effort without even thinking about it in a busy street, while before that seemed harder. Just keep dropping those bombs, it becomes pretty easy when u get the hang of it. Being able to quickly operate the tgp, while doing some other tasks is a very good skill for mud movers. And with the ecm screaming in your ear you need to be able to prioritize tasks on the fly. Muscle memory helps A LOT.
Very informative, thank you. I have a simple question though. When I do not put a waypoint on mission editor, ccrp line is always stuck to the right side of the hud. However, it is aligned with the lased point when there is a waypoint, regardless of where the waypoint is. Why is that so?
Lmao wow I never know how to fly my plane in a straight line before! Thanks Supdknocker you’re a life saver! I’d love to throw my money at your professional 1 on 1 training!
Ok I am relatively new to DCS but I was wondering, is there a way IRL for a pilot to designate a SPI using the HMD? I feel like this would be a crazy useful feature in real life sorties... In theory it really shouldnt be a difficult thing to achieve
Wooohooo! I did it! Have kinda been trying to turn my head away from tanking, after 6 months ago, crying with f-15C and boom in the *ss. Bought Raven one campaign for just learnerd hornet (which has gone fine, no problems so far). Then mission two. "Now we train refueling" ;#""&&" "Ok maby the basket is easier". Well kinda yes, you see it, and same time no. Flying near wing instead of boomstyles "under" then plane is much more terrible (though the boom it is goddam hard itself, but thats another case..) , what comes to wake turbulence (for me atleast). But after few days of hours and hours, and after many contacts, but no more than second or two taking fuel - woke up this morning->back to refueling "goddam". But on second run, magically LISTENING for music from webradio -> just went and fueled the goddam thing. And what a feeling. Have old saitek x45, and i can tell it isnt best anymore for these kind of things, though it works. I just HAVE TO put kinda big deadzone -> finally tried setting where Y was at curve of 30 and x at curve of 25. But more it seems to be in the head. After first succesful refueling, immeadiatly realised that I basically just put too much effort for contact itself. It leads to situation where you make contact but immeadiatly after lose it, cause you just concentraded just for contact itself. But yeah, i can see immediate increase of sucesfull contacts when i draft those deadzone way down to very limits, but then comes my old stick and makes sudden moves. And btw, I do this without Track IR or VR... :) Maby it is time to buy atleast 20 years newer hotas, kinda everything would be bettter, when havin just enough buttons. Have concidered some Saitek (logitech) never model before really going for more expensive stuff. The accuracy even in x52 is WAAAAY much better, what i tried at mall. Even it is cheap. And oh. those for struggle with these old saitek nylons (under the spring of the stick), and it seems to get "stiffy" and "groonk" sounds -> put aerosol gunoil in it (dont put in on grip... have bad xpericences of that XD ) .
Very well done Video Spud! Very Helpfull :) Tho im flying the Tomcat most of the Time i cant Designate my own targets if i dont have a human RiO :D would love if Jester would be able to designate targets or you can tell him to. would be quite the work for HB but atleast for solo pilots you could embrace the Bombcat aswell that way :P
Hey sir, I know I'm late to the game, but I just have a question. My TDC. Seems to jump everywhere but where i am lasing. I'm on a bunker or anything when i'm in point track. Any ideas why, sir, thank you.
Hey Spud Quick question re the TGP, are you aware of any way to stop the TGP from wandering as mine does so even after I try locking onto a target ie during Mav alignment or just attempting to lock a potential target up. TGP'ing down in PRE mode does nothing to stop this either - is this just a bug or am i missing something?
Great vid as always, very helpful. I noticed you said "TDC Depress", is this synonymous with "TDC Down", as opposed to fore, aft, left right? In the Harrier the TDC options are fore, aft, left, right, down. Maybe it's worded differently in the F16? And of course...
Do u have to assign a button to fire the laser with the trigger hold down? Mine doesnt do that when i hold trigger down. I have to assign a different butotn for it which I wana free up.
My 10 cents: Try not using zoom view at all. Set your fov to a realistic value and maybe lean a bit but that's it. A pilot doesn't have bionic zoom lenses, so a simulation with focus on realism shouldn't be in need of that either... I know using zoom makes things so much easier but for me it's killing the immersion in regards of realism so much.
An Awesome Cognitive and Energy Enhancing Supplement made by pilots and for pilots! That would be Coffee for the real pilots and beer for the virtual pilots.
I really doubt the f14 pilots in real life to catch the E bracket, it’s super sensitive and agile, also small, impossible for case1, but truly accurate and reasonable for case3
Does anyone know the FUNCTIONAL difference in Nose vs Tail fuzing? I can't find any information on it, ANYWHERE, apart from "Yes, this selection changes how the weapon functions." Which I know. I'd be grateful to anyone who had any light to shed.
@@Spudknocker THANK you. God why was that such secret information on the internet. Much appreciated. Now to see if it's modeled any differently in-game. That's my favorite part of it, really. The fine details that let you utilize a given system multiple different ways, on the fly.
Thanks for the video! Two questions tho: 1. What does it do in the viper when you press tms right opposed to tms up? 2. How can you recenter/reset the TGP? If there is a second target in the totally opposite direction it takes ages to slew the TGP around atm because idk how to reset it :( EDIT: Just thought of a 3rd question: What is the action called to zoom the TGP in and out? I don't know what to look for in the control menu
right is area track and up is point track, which would be rather suited for moving targets. if I got this right, its also a good practice to go into area tracking before you are maneuvering and possibly masking your tgp, so that after your aligned again the targeting is not off by a huge margin.
What's with the trend in in-video paid promotions? I pay for a RUclips premium subscription to avoid advertisments - this irks me somewhat. Also, I couldn't ignore the wall of text intended for the RUclips algorithm - are you referencing other popular search terms to increase your profile/visability? Is this how this works? So, if I'm searching for a makeup tutorial, I might find myself learning how to laser designate in DCS? Right.
If it Irks you I recommend contacting youtube to increase ad revenue to RUclipsrs in general, that would probably do away with sponsors in videos. The wall of text is to add more Buzzwords to the video delivering the video to more subscribers of the channel. RUclips's way of doing things is so broken that most subscribers to a channel will never see videos from channels they subscribe to unless it is full of SEO crap
Surprised you didn't mention using the steering autopilot to fly directly onto the target waypoint while heads down.. how do you not know that yet feel you're qualified to teach people?
DUGA DUGA you realize this video is meant for More than just the F-16 right? This is a general over view of the entire fleet of DCS world aircraft but using the F-16, your comment seems rather nitpicky especially on such a generalized video

Wich skin is that for the f16? It looks so good!
I used the Greek and Chilean Skins in this video! They are both integral to the module
Very well done Video Spud! Very Helpfull :) Tho im flying the Tomcat most of the Time i cant Designate my own targets if i dont have a human RiO :D would love if Jester would be able to designate targets or you can tell him to. would be quite the work for HB but atleast for solo pilots you could embrace the Bombcat aswell that way :P
f14a don't have laser designator so how would you do that?
Hey sir, I know I'm late to the game, but I just have a question. My TDC. Seems to jump everywhere but where i am lasing. I'm on a bunker or anything when i'm in point track. Any ideas why, sir, thank you.
Hey Spud, thxs a lot for this Tutorial, very nice explained. Any chance to share this .MIZ ???
Hey Spud Quick question re the TGP, are you aware of any way to stop the TGP from wandering as mine does so even after I try locking onto a target ie during Mav alignment or just attempting to lock a potential target up. TGP'ing down in PRE mode does nothing to stop this either - is this just a bug or am i missing something?
Excellent here ! aaaaaas always ! ;-)
Great vid as always, very helpful. I noticed you said "TDC Depress", is this synonymous with "TDC Down", as opposed to fore, aft, left right? In the Harrier the TDC options are fore, aft, left, right, down. Maybe it's worded differently in the F16? And of course...
Yes, the depress function is the same as ‚down‘ in this context
TDC Depress is target designation in the F/A-18C :)
Hey Spud, what monitor do you use? I'm on the Rift S with similar PC specs and though I love the immersion, I'm tired of the substandard graphics.
I went to Leading Edge Supplements aaaaand : Due to high volume, product is on backorder. May take 2-3 weeks to ship.
Ahh ironic after that night op... lol spud
The video based on the night flight is coming, the combat was good in that mission, the logistics not so much
@@Spudknocker was still a wonderful listen while I drove (I'm an American trucker) long missions help pass the drive time for real.
Do u have to assign a button to fire the laser with the trigger hold down? Mine doesnt do that when i hold trigger down. I have to assign a different butotn for it which I wana free up.
thank you
¿Is that a Chilean AF F-16 during the introduction???
I got the Harrier which im learning to fly, im such a noob.
is the F16 any good and is it a complete module or are they still working on it?
i kinda want the explosions to be more realistic :D a 2.000 pound bomb would make a huge explosion / dust cloud
My 10 cents: Try not using zoom view at all. Set your fov to a realistic value and maybe lean a bit but that's it. A pilot doesn't have bionic zoom lenses, so a simulation with focus on realism shouldn't be in need of that either...
I know using zoom makes things so much easier but for me it's killing the immersion in regards of realism so much.
what is that what you're squeezing after the release?
An Awesome Cognitive and Energy Enhancing Supplement made by pilots and for pilots! That would be Coffee for the real pilots and beer for the virtual pilots.
Love it
I really doubt the f14 pilots in real life to catch the E bracket, it’s super sensitive and agile, also small, impossible for case1, but truly accurate and reasonable for case3
Maybe for case3 use?
Does anyone know the FUNCTIONAL difference in Nose vs Tail fuzing? I can't find any information on it, ANYWHERE, apart from "Yes, this selection changes how the weapon functions." Which I know. I'd be grateful to anyone who had any light to shed.
Nose Fusing will cause instant weapon detonation, whereas tail fusing will cause the weapon to penetrate into the ground or target before detonating
@@Spudknocker THANK you. God why was that such secret information on the internet.
Much appreciated. Now to see if it's modeled any differently in-game.
That's my favorite part of it, really. The fine details that let you utilize a given system multiple different ways, on the fly.
How would your flight pattern be, if you were buddy lasing?
When you lase for multiple planes a orbit over the target, for one it doesn't really matter as long as the target is in view of the pod
Anyone have the link to that viper skin??
Thanks for the video! Two questions tho:
1. What does it do in the viper when you press tms right opposed to tms up?
2. How can you recenter/reset the TGP? If there is a second target in the totally opposite direction it takes ages to slew the TGP around atm because idk how to reset it :(
EDIT: Just thought of a 3rd question: What is the action called to zoom the TGP in and out? I don't know what to look for in the control menu
right is area track and up is point track, which would be rather suited for moving targets. if I got this right, its also a good practice to go into area tracking before you are maneuvering and possibly masking your tgp, so that after your aligned again the targeting is not off by a huge margin.
GRAPHIC lOL 😮😮
alternative title: What mudhen pilots think is impossible :p
What do you fly in real life ?
I fly a bunch of different airplanes and I fly competitive aerobatics

Are you an actual fighter pilot?
No I am a CFII and fly competitive aerobatics

@@Spudknocker cool
Surprised you didn't mention using the steering autopilot to fly directly onto the target waypoint while heads down.. how do you not know that yet feel you're qualified to teach people?
True.. he also referred to the f16 Throttles (plural) not realizing it's single engine
Not a real pilot. Just a dude in the Bay Area working in tech or finance
Interesting
3d Print Concord I’m not? Wow, news to
Me! ruclips.net/video/uBdsC9q1H5c/видео.html
DUGA DUGA you realize this video is meant for
More than just the F-16 right? This is a general over view of the entire fleet of DCS world aircraft but using the F-16, your comment seems rather nitpicky especially on such a generalized video
Just blabla blablah, just get to the point!
