M101uhk I guess is a paperwork mix up at registration that no one noticed as the DVLA site also says it’s a 2.5 diesel. It does happen when I worked at a Rover dealers in the 90s we had a pair of Metros in for service that had identical regs due to a paperwork mix up somewhere. One ended up being re registered in a new reg

XR2 was a Fiesta not Escort. Also the Mk5 came out in 1990, the 1992 cars were an emergency facelift that became known as Mk5b

My Dad had a MkI Escort from 1974 on a 'M' reg. He also had a 1965 Corsair and a 1984 Sierra. Never had an Escort myself but I have had a 1964 Corsair, a left hand drive 1995 Fiesta and now have a 2004 Focus. My Corsair had no floor but it was good for running about in! My left hand drive Fiesta saved me in a head on crash as the right side took the brunt of the damage caused by the driver of a VW Passat driving in middle of the road around a blind bend on a narrow country lane.

My third car was a £150 Mk IV Escort. It ran like a champ and was still on the road until 2011 until some bugger stole it. Mind you it was a bit rough by then :) But when I first got it in 2005 it was a very smooth motor. Not the cheapest car I've owned, the cheapest was a free Fiesta 1.4S which was the car I owned before the Escort :D

As a child of the 90's it seem strange to me that Escorts were once considered cool/desirable cars.
I remember rusty mk3s/4s everywhere, boy racers in XR3is, and fleets of 1.6LX Mk5/6s everywhere you turned. They were the byword for common and humdrum by the mid 90s. Not desirable at all, except for maybe the RS Cosworth (which had something of a drug dealers + joy riders association at the time). I think in may ways they made the car blander, uglier and less characterful with each subsequent generation which culminated in the utterly indifferent Mk5. The Escort name was somewhat tarnished by that point which is why the had such a radical rethink with the Focus.

From the man that 'allegedly' received many 'brown paper envelopes' in order to tell us that the Metro, Maestro and (get this) the Montego were better cars than the equivalent Ford models. I think this was a damage limitation video before he quietly disappeared from Bottom Gear never to be heard of again. A very rich man

louis beer reviews Hoppy beers The USA did have an Escort and when introduced it was vaguely similar to the UK Mk3 but with American styling, dashboard and engines. It was supposed to be a “world car” but the amount of parts interchangeable between a US and Euro Escort was laughably small. The US Escort went through some changes, styling tweaks and updates over the years (Google the 1988.5 Escort!) etc. and it sold reasonably well, but it was never loved and is largely forgotten these days. Mercury also sold a version called the Lynx, both Ford and Mercury selling 3/5-doors and estate versions, as well as ugly 2-seater coupes called the Ford EXP and Mercury LN-1, which we’re Escort-based.
A new Escort arrived in 1992 but that was based on Mazda’s 323/Protege range and it never sold as well as the original car. You rarely see any of them now.
