  • H. maculata Hatching and removal of slings
Today we are going to remove the slings from our H.maculata ,we allowed these to hatch in the enclosure to follow the full process from mating to hatch, you will see just how calm these mis-understood spiders can be with the correct handling, a truly wonderfull species of baboon spider.

My juvenile H Maculata has never given me any trouble, and when I bought it, I was told it "teleports and will try to kill mein my sleep" . I'm sure the seller was just giving me an abundance of caution, but I too have found that a lot of the bad reputation spiders just aren't so as long as you are aware and careful with them. I keep p. Murinus and poecilothera as well and have never had issues with any of them. It's all about experience and respecting the animal.

    • @angela_tarantulas
      @angela_tarantulas 3 месяца назад

The bad reputation just comes from people who provoke them and put the crazy videos up in social media 😢
I keep various tarantulas, also Hmac and lots of new worlds which some of them are fast, too.
But never had any issues and crazy behavior from them. Occasionally a jump scare, but I think that can happen to every keeper 😂
I really like Daves videos, because he is always calm and respectful with his beasties.

After viewing a lot of your videos, I'm stuck with you two! Wonderful clips and so much to learn from you! I've my first love with eight legs right now, since about march, and its an OBT! I was gifted with it, because the previous owner had too much fear... But we love each other! I said it's my first and unbelievably lost it, because the lid of the enclosure was not properly closed... but I found it (I don't know the sex of the spider for now) again, and since this experience we're bounded forever! My Baby was about one meter next to the enclosure in one of my shirts, when I found it, it wasn't thin, but thirsty as hell! And now, I made a new enclosure with a lot of space and possibilities to dig, but you showed me the semi-arboreal(?) skills of the species, and now I will build in some materials to climb! And a Question: Do you still have some babies of your Heteroscodra Maculata? And how big are they now?

It's amazing how you drop a cricket, locust, roach etc and the tarantula grabs it and eats it, you put a male in with a female for breeding and sometimes she'll eat him but have babies and the tarantula doesn't do anything but protect them, it's very fascinating that it happens as everyone keeps saying they have very basic instincts and don't remember stuff and such and yet I see behaviour that suggests otherwise. I was looking forward to see the counting and catching of the babies, I enjoy those kinda videos very much which might seem odd :)

Hi Dave...can you explain about their natural habitat, where to look for them? In other words when walking in woodlands, how do you avoid their area. What type of peripheral vision do you need? Usually my eyes are peeled for bees, hornets nests and mother birds protecting their young and poison ivy or oak. I love painting wooded areas but can never relax. Probably need to hire four bodyguards like the President to scope out all angles. Good grief...a leaf fell down the back of my shirt and I became a roadrunner...disappeared for a day!

If the clutch are small, say -100 slings i think it is not a bad idea to leave it, but if it is a large clutch, for me the pros if taking it out and just seperate 500+ eggs with legs is greater than letting the sac hatch with female. I have tried to quickly stuff the emty sack with cotton, sew it together and return it to the female, just to ease my contiens, but she never took it back

Just out of curiosity made you decide to keep the slings in with the moms until they are proper size? I want to get into breeding further down the line and I haven’t decided which route to take.

I just like to see them hatch with the mum, most take them out becouse its harder catching them all in the enclosure , I find I can catch them all up in 1/2 hour and remove them into sling pots no trouble , I find it very interesting to see how they interact with the mum.good luck with your future breeding projects I look forward to hearing about them👍

What size exo terra do you have her in? I have recently acquired a sub adult female of this remarkable species and would like to get her into a nice permanent home

@@daveslittlebeasties ah I thought it might be, thank you. I was suggested a 30x30x45 for this species but that seems quite large and I imagine there would be a lot of wasted space

How long ought one wait after egg sac removal for a sling to be ready to be shipped in the mail to a customer?

Iirc, that’s after their third molt, when they grow hair. Let them harden up for a week or two before sending them off.

Does the female spin a sac and lay her eggs.or does she lay her eggs then spin the sac around them.

They spin a silk mat, lay the eggs on it, and then gather/roll it up into a ball and spin more web around it. The ones that make normal sacs anyway, this one apparently makes a hammock instead
