First look at Holosun P.ID lights (HC, Plus and Dual)

  • We take a closer look at the Holosun P.ID line of weapon mounted lights. Once again Holosun managed to make a quality product for a reasonable price point. Žiga tries out all the models, from the standard PID to PID HC, PID Plus and PID Dual. In this short notice we weren't able to properly test the durability and reliability of these lights but we have found one subjective flaw that really sucks - these light use a double function switch where a short quick press will turn the light and a longer press will work as a momentary switch.
    Now in theory this sounds ok but in practice during a clearing drill where you move and only try to momentary illuminate an area it quickly happens that your press of the switch is too shorts/fast and it just keeps your light on constant on. Now this is a problem because in real life situation this will give out your position and you also inadvertently blind yourself by pointing those 1000 lumens into a close cover.
    No bueno

    Great intelligent commentary on shooting in low light and light use. I often see folks go for the most powerful light and putting it on their nightstand gun. I find this to be a risk as you can end up blinding yourself in the tight confines of a house, however if you're going to be outdoors it's a different need.

      Later i discovered that the dual function switch cant be changed. So i spoke with the Holosun reps on Shot Show and was amazed that they just didnt understand why the constant on clicky is bad and how it doesnt work properly when shooting.

Like a shoot house scenario similar to the one in this vid as well as night testing your ability ID at various distances. Print out photos of different guntubers or something different that actually tests your ability to see details with each light at distance. I’m sure you could find a way to make it funny while still being a legitimate comparison

    The thing about the basic PID - it competes in price with some of the cheapest lights out there. In USA it’s just $99. Sometimes as low as $85-90. That’s cheaper than “trash” olights. That’s almost Amazon airsoft chinesium level cheap.
    The HC version is often $200.
    So for many folks. I def recommend the basic one. And grave 2-3 of them.

    • @alecubudulecu
      @alecubudulecu 3 месяца назад

      @@TheAxe4Ever note my "air quotes" around "trash". I use an Olight too. still. since this is now cheaper than many of the olights I've used... I'm considering switching to this going forward for pistol lights at least.

    • @PolenarTactical
      @PolenarTactical  3 месяца назад +4

      It's a great buy - in our testing conditions i could barely distinguish between a basic PID and HC version.
      Im not a mainstream Olight hater and i have used some of their lights but they are not that cheap anymore and are lacking some of the features or capabilities of other brands.
      At the moment i run a P15 light on my AR, it's made by a chinese company ACEBEAM, is reasonably priced and much more capable than anything i tried - it has 1700 lumens and a very focused tight beam.
      The only downside is the stupid m-lok mount design and strange choice of cable attachment but both can be solved by using aftermarket stuff

    So weird thing about the shadow ban is I don’t see the video in my subs but if I click the channel to narrow my sub tab to only show Polenar then I can see the video in my subs on mobile. I don’t follow many gun channels, just InRangeTV, 9Hole, and Forgotten Weapons, Royal Armory, PSR and this is the only channel I’ve ever noticed this happen.
    If this isn’t RUclips shadowbanning on purpose then I wonder if the community post and video can’t show in the feed simultaneously. I would test this possibility. I’m leaning on shadowban but it’s odd that it’s only you guys.

      Some Glock light-bearing holsters can be modified to fit Shadow 1 pistols. Although you are correct about the level 2 holsters, the hood is likely to interfere with the hammer in the cocked position. We actually had some increased interest for dedicated P.ID compatible holsters for Shadow 1 / Shadow 2 pistols and we hope to create a hybrid holster that will work with both pistols and all variations of P.ID lights.

      Thank you both for anwers. Have you considered an universal holster solution which would use features of the light unit to provide the locking function?
      It could be made as a kit of different fittings so the end user could use adhesive to fit it together from different options making it possible for the kit to fit a myriad of pistols.
      I can belive it is a mess to find a holster every gun. We all have our favorite and some even mill their optics in to make extra custom. Like me, silly me.

    • @BattleGnomeSolutions
      @BattleGnomeSolutions 3 месяца назад +1

      @@alphazuul9168 the main part of the holster's passive retention is already made by locking onto the body of the light. We try to make the best fit possible, by still accommodating as many closely related pistols / lights as possible. But this also has its limits, if the dimensions between pistols vary too much, making a universal holster would not ensure a good fit and we do not like to make such compromises. We want our users to have the best experience possible for the setup they choose to carry.

    New player on the field is always a good thing, but that thing is HUGE! Like, larger than the original Surefire pistol light, with an incandescent emitter! I think all of the Chinese sourced lights are using the same control boards which means they all have the same on/off functionality. Olights also do this as well as various "other" brands that are Chinese made. I prefer a "wall of light" over a spotlight that reinforces tunnel vision. Were you missing the back targets because you didn't look, or because the light didn't illuminate it enough to register in your brain? To me a brighter wall of light is better. 1200 to 2000 lumens output makes more sense. My Baldr S is still 800 lumens and I like it's cone of light over some others. I'm not an LEO or an Operator so maybe I just don't need any of this...but my Olights also didn't cost 300-400 dollars each. Yes, I have more than one. I like having options.

    • @CalzaTheFox
      @CalzaTheFox 3 месяца назад

      "Wall of light" is a nothing burger unless someone can define what enables it. What I do know is that high candela lights have a more dramatic effect on the viewer - they are a lot more painful to look at. Generally people prefer this over just obscuring yourself because it can lead to target compliance.

    I hate those controls. I have them on my TLR7 for my G43X and I hate it. It should be programmable for momentary only or if it can’t be programmable, then make it only momentary without constant on. I’m never buying another light with those controls.

      I feel like only people that dont actualy use or train are ok with those controls.
      Or maybe their idea of using the light is turning it on for the whole duration of shooting... 🤔

    Why don't they just change the name of the site. It hasn't been "RUclips" for years. Just call it GoogleTube, say that you are a publisher
    and not a platform anymore, and stop lying to us.

    I’d never buy a light that adds length to my gun

    • @PolenarTactical
      @PolenarTactical  3 месяца назад +4

      They are releasing a K version that is super short
      Personally i prefer a longer light because i shoot a lot and if the light doesnt extend past the muzzle, the lens get so dirty that it barelly works anymore

    • @EatMeGoogleStopChangingShit
      @EatMeGoogleStopChangingShit 3 месяца назад +1

      If it extends beyond the muzzle, carbon buildup on the lens isn't really a problem and the likelihood of your gun being pressed out of battery if your attacker ends up on top of you is just about zero.

      Removable, replaceable batteries are great. Mostly because they have a higher voltage, and that means more output

    • @bridgewatersucks

      @@PolenarTactical Unfortunately not. Trex arms made a video complaining about that and people were giving him shit in the comments for it but in my experience it’s a genuine problem. I have a local gun shop that will make a holster for me but that’s my only option.
