- This 4-cylinder and it's little 3-cylinder brother arrived at Zagray Farm around 2004, and finally we have been able to make a foundation for the engine and put up a building for it and other large stationary engines. It's a monumental day!
Also, a big thanks to Lauren for filming the majority of this video while i was running around helping move the engine! - Наука
That old crane's still got its stuff. As an engineer, I can really appreciate the planning that went into this. Thanks.
Wow some impressive workmanship, knowledge and team work moving a huge motor with a huge antique crane
Thank you for preserving these engines!!
Very nicely done, Lauren.
That crane looked like was on its edge of capacity . look at the end of the tracks glad you guys got it picked with out a mishap .
Not sure what the capacity is. Some counterweight would have fixed the machine tiptoeing.
Props to you, MadMillers! National treasures as far as I'm concerned.
Thanks! it sure is a treasure. they don't make them like this any more.
Whats the weight of that engine?
Maybe some day when a solar storm hits mother earth we will be thankful someone saved all those dark age equipment... :)
20 tons
What are the plans for those engines? I love what you guys do up there, and try to go to the shows when I can.
They will be run for demo purposes (generator won't be making any power, just will be along for the ride) along with other stationary engines soon to be installed in the building!
I've got a 40ton lattice boom, friction P&H truck crane, I'd about kill for a crawler like this.
looks like the engine in pops 54 Packard years ago probably more horsdoveries in the Packard
mechanical clutches meet 20 tons, slightly dangerous on the bouncing lift. Nice work saving and moving it tho. Like those old FM brutes keep em preserved.
the engine dose the northwest 80 d have? Cool fairbanks morse diesel
Murphy MP-21
Very nice video! Are you going to be at the Zagray Expo next weekend?
I'll be there!
Hope to meet you!
keep a lookout for my blue dodge, or for me in a shovel or dozer out back.
Got to meet you haha. How often did you say that you guys work on the stuff at the farm?
usually there's some people here every weekend, and sometimes we coordinate larger groups, this engine move being an example. now that i'm moving closer to the farm, i hope to be there more often!
I think the crane was older!
how much oil does it take to fill the engine crank case ? and thanks-4-great-upload (nice job) !
It's a dry sump engine, so i believe it only takes about 5 gallons.
@@themadmailler Crankcase pressurized 2 stroke
Dry sump like a rotax 850 etec
just to correct myself, it takes about 15 gallons in a day tank. an oil pump sucks oil out, lubes the engine, and oil drains back out of the sumps to another pump which pumps the oil through a filter and into the day tank again.
@@themadmailler Since it crankcase scavenged, does some of the oil fling off the bearings and forced up the ports to burn off.
The NW crane sounds like it has a Murphy Diesel....
Yes it does.
@@themadmailler 2 stroke diesel?
