Thanks for the video. I grew up in East Tennessee. I was surrounded by the easter deciduous forests similar to where you are. I would pick one set of blades for that scenario. I lived in Oklahoma City for six years. I lived in southern Louisiana for over ten years. I've now been in Wyoming for over ten years. I've lived other places for shorter periods of time. I lean towards a different set of choices for each location. Much would also depend on whether I could carry a true axe or a saw for processing wood. Either of those would be better than any kind of "blade" in a survival situation. Because I live where there isn't a tree within a mile of my house in any direction, I don't currently own a good axe or even a good saw. Much would also depend on what other weapons I could carry for self-defense and whether I lived in a place where I thought I would need to fight my way out of my location. For instance, I lived in western Houston for a little over two years. If things went insane at that time and I had to get out of the city but didn't have access to firearms, I'd have to choose blades that would be primarily fighting blades. I have a short sword that has "Cobra" stenciled on the blade. I think Windlass made this series of modern fighting swords. I'd probably pick this sword, pick a tomahawk by a company that I refuse to acknowledge any longer, and pick a push dagger from that same company. None of these would really be top choices for other situations, but I would take them in hopes that they would give me the best chance to fight. My fourth would then be a bushcraft knife. On the other hand, I wouldn't take the sword or the tomahawk if I had access to firearms and ammunition for self-defense. There's no point in using a short sword when I have the option of shooting an attacker. I would still carry the push dagger in case someone got close to me by surprise and I couldn't draw a gun in time. I currently live in a very unpopulated part of Wyoming. If I had to go somewhere, I'd have a reasonable chance of not being surprised by someone getting close. Under those conditions, the push dagger doesn't seem as important. Survival would depend on getting to some place with trees, but I'm not sure where I would go or what trees I would find. I don't have a real saw right now. I think I have a Harbor Freight version of one of those Asian trimming saws. I'm going to assume that the saw would cover many of my wood processing jobs and not count against my total. 1. machete - I have two old machetes that I've used quite a bit when I was younger. I'm not sure which one I'd take, but I feel confident processing wood with them. I'd still hope to use the saw for most wood processing, but a machete is still a great tool for building shelter and can be pressed into service as a weapon. 2. kukri - I have a couple of kukri. I'm not sure which I'd rather take. I'd take one. A kukri would be a good backup for wood processing, would be effective for self-defense, and could probably be used for hunting. 3. bushcraft knife - I have a Gerber of some kind that would probably be my first choice. 4. bushcraft knife - I would probably take my other bushcraft knife from the company that I don't like to name. My Grandfather made a Knife in early 20th century so that's coming. I have a Tops Frog Market, odd shaped but a solid slicer for camp or kitchen. An LT Wright Kephart for the field. A Silky type saw for wood.
The RMJ Tactical SHRIKE Tomahawk can do anything. The Tops Kuma KAGE if you’re worried about zombies. Tops wild pig hunter is a pretty good survival, knife, and the RMJ Tactical up close and personal for smaller tasks.
Really enjoyed this video Daniel. A great concept to explore. You could easily make this into a series, like 3 weapons and 3 pieces of gear for the apocalypse or best throwing knife and slingshot combo. Thanks for the upload ✊
The Kukri is your battle knife. In the Apocalypse you need to think about weight. Carrying water. I agree with 1 and 4. Otherwise, you need a knife that can become a spear. Or shovel.
For small tasks I am going to bring my openl number 9. I am also going to take the Elchette. I am taking my Becker 9, and lastly I am taking my cold steel katana. I love your choices. You made some good ones!!
I appreciate the option of 4. 1. I’ve got a kailash blades kukri. Most versatile knife ever made. 2. Mora garberg 3. Victorinox swisstool spirit x 4. Cold steel ultimate hunter.
1.) Leatherman Wave 2.) Morakniv Garberg 3.) Toor Serpent 4.) Terava Skrama 240 Gives me a good chopper, a good bushcraft knife, a concealable combat knife and a multitool. Its probably the best combination I could possibly make out of my collection
I would probably need more than 20 of these boxes to store my knives. I fully agree that first Rambo knife and the Tracker are worthless movie props. Also the idea that you are now gonna live and survive in the woods is pretty far fetched. It's most likely that you stay in the house as long as you can and if you have to leave stay in the town or village and find some abandoned building or structure for shelter. I also wonder why my tool(knife) set would suddenly change in case of an apocalyps compared to bushcraft, outdoor, survival, camping, backpacking? So the list would be something like this: - A pretty simple SAK in my pocket attached with a lanyard to my belt, for instance the Pioneer as my last resort and tool. - A multitool and I gravitate towards a Leatherman for instance the Rebar. - A small task and foodprep fixed blade knife for instance the Mora 546 or Companion (in stainless) or on the higher end the Fallkniven R2 Scout in Elmax. - A lightweight machete with a max blade lenght of 30 cm (12 inch) so it fits inside my backpack for instance an Tramontina Latin machete.
I would want to travel light, 4 large knives is way too much luggage on foot. I'm packing a Victorinox Swiss tool and a Puukko M95. The M95 can do everything from cutting fire wood to food prep and defence. The Swiss tool covers unforeseen needs and pliers are always useful.
Esee Laser Strike & Becker BK3. That’s it. It would take a lot of convincing to make a case that I would ever need anything else. If being sanitary is ultra important, maybe an Opinel 7 for food? Opinion: I struggle with getting on the Strongarm bandwagon. I know people love it, I gave it a shot. The grip is horrendous for heavy use, whole thing is a hotspot. Tacticool sums it up. It does get points in the modularity of the sheath, definitely will give it that.
hmmm, gotta take my dive knife, my meteorite blade, my japaneese o da'chi 60inches long with 3ft blade and 2ft handle hand forged and hand made 1095 high carbon steel full tang. last would be a eastwing ax, steel handle one piece of metal and all the wood you can cut. beyond that i will take an air rifle pcp, maybe two. a battery op compresser and a way to charge it once a month. along with a hand punp. yeah alot of heavy kit. but that is why i have the all terrain 2'x4' wagon , a great dane , and a harness for him to pull it with. lead, re casting equip. and a big bag of heirloom seeds. for when i find a good spot to lay stake. a 2lb california frameing hammer that can be used as a sledge, and a roll of 4mm thick painters plastic, grommet kit and 500ft paracord. a hand saw, hack saw, some pex tubing, a shower water filter good for 30k gallons, and a couple rolls of tin foil. a bag of emergency blankets. and a 20lb bag of jasmine rice. that is about what i am sure i can haul myself if the dane does not wish to pull. a backpack with a welding striker for firestarting an a waterproof bag of flints. a ziplock of dryer lint, for tinder, all my old cell phone batteries, a 100w solar panel and power inverter and a single deep cell 12v battery 60AH. and i am pretty sure i could survive for more than a decade with that kit. less than 200 lbs in a all terrain rubbermaid wagon that can float if need be.or be attached to an ATV that is electric and can be recharged with the deep cell system. what is in your wallet. smils
You got a Kukri in there so you're good. The middle two are pretty similar in my opinion. I'd say in a post apocalypse situation, a multi tool should have a place. Small blade, medium blade, big blade, and multi tool.
I am not sure about the other three but #1 on my list would be a Victorinox Ranger or similar. Probably a Brend Model 2-8, a Busse light brigade and maybe a Henkels kitchen knife.
I think your second and third choice are rather interchangeable, as you did admit as well, so I would have left out the second one, and instead as a fourth taken something longer but lighter than the Kukri, so most likely a machete. Though my collection is composed of more traditional / historical (looking) blades, I would have followed the same logic: a good functional everytask light working knife; a rough tactical fighting/working knife with double edge possibilities; a Kukri; and finally a Machete or any light slightly curved and pointed shortsword, preferably with good handprotection.
So tough. But going with these: 1.) Ontario Machete (sawback) 2.) Gerber Strongarm 3.) SOG Seak XR folder 4.) Leatherman Surge (loaded sheath) Any other list is wrong. 😉
Great video👍 I would go with my cold steel srk in san mai, the schrade schf 45 Leroy, also the schrade schf3n and finally the schrade schf30. Good stuff :)
Cold steel gladius machete with edge modified by Baryonx knives & tools. That is they thin the edge, making them quite a bit more cutting power. Machete Bowie, also by cold steel, also Baryonx modified. In this case, they also square up the spine for striking flint. EF 141. After removing the odd belt clip thing, and wrapping the grip slightly with baseball bat tape, it is a near perfect EDC for me. I also thinly wrapped the scabbard, and it rides close to my waist in almost any position without failing. I haven’t had to rewrap in several months. A pair of substantial throwing stars or bo shuriken, as opposed to throwing any of the others. (Someone should craft a system for this). I’m counting the pair as one.😮 And, whatever finer delicate cutting tasks folding or not, various blades, I can’t see counting them at all😎 It’s always time to break the rules.
@@bernardbarr2354 Ya, thanks $100+ for one? Tho it does look quality, the true spirit of Shuriken has been dulled. I’ll (practice distance) and make effective strikes with the cheapies. Which in a few cases, are very good quality anyway. I have used, and successfully cut nail spikes to various lengths and points. My target set ups emphasize from the groin passing the abdomen, to the sternum > manubrium (above the sternum) throat, mouth, eyes. I have some older “on target” 10” which penetrate very deeply, and I am consistent with. Pretty certain a direct sternum hit, would be severely distracting, as well as the groin. These blades are very thin. Thx for the input.
Gerber backpackers hatchet for choppy work. Mora Woodsman for delicate slicey tasks. Toor Darter for stabby stabby combatives. Crkt m21 04 as a pocket knife backup that can chop, slice, and stab fairly well.
Edit: I see others talking about multitools. I didn't think of that. I'll swap out the mora for my SOG multitool, it's knife has a fine edge that can handle the delicate stuff
I love your channel and your bushcraft expertise honestly if it's apocalypse I'll just starve to death I priced myself out of knife utility with Spyderco customs and Cold Steel they're all safe queens or at my beside next to my pillow Im covetous to a serious weakness the US makes the best blades on planet Earth everyone knows it I'll NEVER take a blade overseas as soon as anyone sees a U.S. blade they will kill themselves to steal it my greatest loss is an Original Cold Steel Tanto with leather sheath was stolen from overseas move I never ever got over it . 😢💀
Dg blade co small fixed blade LT wright jessmuk c Gransfors bruk small forest axe Silky gomboy 240 That's what id take for a shtf in a woodsy area but if i was stuck in a urban area id replace the saw with a multi tool or maybe a spyderco para 3 lightweight for a concealed blade
First 3 can be one, the strongarm :) Kukri stays, Next a machete, something like a cold steel katana, An axe or a tomahawk. And a tank, of course, full with guns and ammo :)
From my current knife collection I'd go with the following: *1.* Bushcraft - KA-BAR BK 11 with custom grip *2.* Fighting - KA-BAR USMC 1217 *3.* Beat up bushcraft - KA-BAR BK 2 *4.* Hard task - Cold Steel (12inch blade) Black Bear Bowie Machete In future I'd possibly change number 4 for something else but the Cold Steel Bowie Machete isn't too bad.
Clever girl crkt kukuri, steel eagle 105d by tops, marauder serrated cold steel, yojumbo fixed blade spyderco. A heavy carry in weight but I think will cover the bases.
Got a Kabar D2 partial serrated and a crkt Kangee tomahawk in my 5.11 bag Leatherman wave Med kit mini solar charger water filter gorilla tape flashlight batteries 48hrs mre and some daily medications I require. I'm trying. I'd like a go bag packing video. Got to get my weight down. I still want a satellite phone.
1- Cold steel trail master in san mai 3 2- tom brown tracker 3- cold steel drop forged boot knife (element of surprise if i am ever in a bind) 4- any Mora. You're right, moras do finess well
1) Leatherman Surge with bit kit (finer tasks, repairs, scavenging) 2) Gerber Strongarm (fighting and bushcraft) 3) Gransfors Bruks Scandinavian forest axe (wood processing and shelter building) 4) Silky Gomboy 270 (wood processing and shelter building) That is my list, but it includes an axe and a saw, since I would rather have those 2 things than another blades. 🙂
I was thinking a similar list. But I'm too connected to the land to bug out, so I'll have all of them till the end. But if I were younger, I have my 35 year old Buck almost 6" blade full tang and rubberized grip, a pound and a half camp ax on a slightly shorter than typical handle, my 8" fillet knife, a 28" spade with solid wood to a D handle handle and a diamond 325 grit/1200 grit Sharpal to maintain them. But I would deeply miss my pocket knives, my Schrade kukri, my KABAR, my silky 7" medium tooth, my boning knife, my high carbon chef knife, and my favorite wave serration steak knives, my double edge razor, the first aid shears, the S&W throwing knives and hatchets, the 16" chain saw, the roofing hatchet, the two utility knives, about 50 disposable utility knife blades, the two cheap WalMart machetes (gifts), oh, and the wood chipper that I just used on 4 dozen corn cobs to add to the compost.
Dam this is a tough 1 if were leaving out folders & multi tools & swords 1) TOP's Prather War Bowie 2) SOG Northwest Ranger 3) Off Grid Sierra 4) CS special projects Kukri
My Cold Steel Bowie machete, Cold Steel bushman, BPS adventurer and Mora 546. Or Case raider bowie, Cold Steel GI tanto , Cold Steel peace maker 2 and Mora companion.
LOL, I have a box full like yours. 1) Cold Steel Magnum Kukri machete 2) Cold Steel Master Hunter 3) Spyderco Street Bowie 4) Ontario SP-1 Combat I didn't include any multi-tools because I have a small tool kit with quality tools already packed.
As some one who has over 100 knives, plus a collection of Tomahawks and Axes, swords and machete's. Trying to pick just four. Not easy. But let me start by saying, I do not drive, and I need some special gear to help me through the day. So I have a EDC bag that goes with me every time I lever the house. In that bag I have a Swiss Army Deluxe Tinker knife, a old time Gerber Multi Pliers, with full size jaws and one hand open-able, and the newest addition to the bag a Cold Steel Voyager Drop Point folding knife, with four inch blade. These are always with me. So I will not could them. As for the four. 1. Mora Heavy Duty Companion. Great Blade. 2. Condor Tool and knife, Hudson Bay knife, the big one. 3. Buck 119 Special 4. Condor Tool and knife, Golok Machete. For wood processing and self defense. And of course my Work Sharp Guided Field Sharpener. Got to keep them blades sharp. Now of course I will be a wise guy and add my Nordland type C viking axe, haa a great blade and a hammer poll. And my Stanley Folding Pocket saw, with a selection of blades. So there you go. I think I would also have a firearm with me. But that's a story for another day :)
I am sorry you are disabled. I am confined to a transfer chair and a recliner. Since I am permanently disabled, I would be bugging in and would have the extra security of firearms.
Besides my wallet, keys & cell phone, 3 things I never leave the house without: ZT0350, one of my Gerber multi-tools (I've got a few) & MagLight flashlight. Sometimes I'll change out the ZT for my Buck 110 Folder, depends on where I'm going. I've had family members sneer & laugh at me for carrying those 3 items on me all the time.....until 1 of those items ends up being needed by said family members. Then I let them know how unprepared they are. ALL my friends know I carry these items. Even in a suit & tie, I've got those 3 items on me. Better to have it & not need it than need it & not have it.
1. Swiss Army RANGER 57 M GRIP: for fine work, game processing, and tools for scavenging. 2. Leatherman Wave with bit kit: for repairs and scavenging of items I find. 3. Cold Steel Tai Pan: for my defensive blade, I like the 13” dagger with wide enough bellies that it also slashes well 4. Gerber Strong Arm: for heavy-ish duty bushcraft and general knife tasks. As a fellow knife nut, this was a hard choice. I would have liked to have a small hatchet or kukuri. However, in a real SHTF situation, having tools that can do repairs, open cans, have awls, and more just seems to me to be a higher priority.
Start it off with my Leatherman Wave+ and my White River Ursus 45 in 3V, the two knives I EDC anyways. Finish it with the pair of CRKT blades on my A-to-B Bag and plate carrier, a Kangee T-hawk and a Sangrador, respectively. The Leatherman has small blades for finer tasks, a small saw to effeciently harvest small tinder, and a small file. It really comes in handy for all sorts of basic everyday menial cutting chores. The Ursus 45 in 3V is an ergonomic and indestructible utility knife that could serve for defense, or about anything else, from harvesting game to shelter construction. I could use it as an e-tool or pry bar if I had to. In the forested Rocky Mountains, a small axe or tomahawk is an indispensable piece of kit. The Kangee has done a lot of stuff for me; wood processing, breaching, harvesting game. When you've seen how easily it effortlessly takes apart a deer, you understand the terrifying implications with regard to its use as a weapon...truly devastating. Then the Sangrador, a small double-edged dagger is what I feel is the ultimate fighting knife. It is sharp all over, lightening fast and responsive. Apltly named, sangrador translates from Latin for bleeder. I think these four covers all the bases with some overlap, and my drawer allows me to outfit my friends and family as well. It would be hard to leave some, like my Tops Longhorn Bowie and HOG 4.5 behind, but knowing my wife and kids have good cutting tools on them means I don't really have to.
Cold steel bushman turned into short a spear for reach, multitool or Swiss army knife (Huntsman), BG Ultimate pro knife. Some kind of a machete maybe the cold steel jungle machete. Hope there is no zombies in this Apocalypse or my chubby a** is dinner.
ESSE6.,ESSE3. ( I wear it as a neck knife), Mora companion spark and an ULU for food prep. I didn’t even know they made a tactical 4 , I am working to hard it’s cutting into my knife time.
I'm getting a esse stainless steel izula knife soon. Cost extra but it won't get rusty. I do have a big modern ka-bar knife. To heavy for my bad back. So my friend is getting it. I also carry a folding Gerber Bushcraft style knife. For defense I have my folding spyderco knife that's half serrated. Finally a 8 inch straight dagger.
The main difference between a hoarder and a prepper is that a pepper has a use for everything
Hey I'm a pepper too(Dr. Pepper)lol
I have a Mora companion, but I'd rather take my old school Gerber in place of the Mora, it has a blade similar to the Mora and a woodland camo handle, so that's 1
2. For defensive tactics I'd take Gerber CFB tanto (as seen in Olympus has fallen used by Gerard Butler)
3. My Becker BK7 or my esee 4
for bush/fire-craft
4. My coldsteel true flight. That's for knives most will know.
Now for my normal carry
1.my leatherman surge black
2.my tanto w/red handle
(my design)
3. My large recurve with serrations
(Also my design)
4.my coldsteel kukri machete

Neither
Good choices. I like those knives.
My Council tool axe, Woodsman Pal which is so versatile, My Hardcore Hammer hatchet, and my Dawson Marauder.
1.Terävä Skrama 240
2.Terävä Skrama 200
3.Terävä Jääkäripuuko 140
4.Terävä Skrama 80
Carbon steel Machete. sheathed on my pack.
Victorinox Fieldmaster. Around my neck in a leather snap over sheath.
Buck Strider. On my belt.
SRK. on my belt or pack.
You said 4 knives.
In addition to those, a Riggers hatchet and a Corona folding saw.
I would take my Sealpup Elite and my Essee Tactical 4 like you also and my Coldsteel Machete .
Great choices. Thanks.
#1 estwing axe
#2 TOPS wild pig hunter
#3 BUCK 124
#4 LEATHERMAN 300
Buck 124 is one of my favorite in my collection.
Thanks for the video.

Awesome video and concept. My four ride or die blades are the...
Leatherman Wave
Mora Garberg
LT Wright Overland Machete
Silky saw
@@ColdHarborOP saw is not a knife. But I feel you. 4 knives is a bit much in my opinion.

All good picks
I think your second and third choice are rather interchangeable, as you did admit as well, so I would have left out the second one, and instead as a fourth taken something longer but lighter than the Kukri, so most likely a machete. Though my collection is composed of more traditional / historical (looking) blades, I would have followed the same logic: a good functional everytask light working knife; a rough tactical fighting/working knife with double edge possibilities; a Kukri; and finally a Machete or any light slightly curved and pointed shortsword, preferably with good handprotection.
So tough. But going with these:
1.) Ontario Machete (sawback)
2.) Gerber Strongarm
3.) SOG Seak XR folder
4.) Leatherman Surge (loaded sheath)
Any other list is wrong.
I’m counting the pair as one.😮
And, whatever finer delicate cutting tasks folding or not, various blades, I can’t see counting them at all😎
It’s always time to break the rules.
For the shuriken look at RMJ Forge.
@@bernardbarr2354
Ya, thanks $100+ for one?
@@bernardbarr2354
I’d most likely hit up the cold steel stars.
3 pack for $30. The heavy’s.
Great video!!
THE NEPALESE KNITTING NEEDLE GETS MY VOTE MAN 🎯
I love your channel and your bushcraft expertise honestly if it's apocalypse I'll just starve to death I priced myself out of knife utility with Spyderco customs and Cold Steel they're all safe queens or at my beside next to my pillow Im covetous to a serious weakness the US makes the best blades on planet Earth everyone knows it I'll NEVER take a blade overseas as soon as anyone sees a U.S. blade they will kill themselves to steal it my greatest loss is an Original Cold Steel Tanto with leather sheath was stolen from overseas move I never ever got over it . 😢💀
Do you have an Outdoorsman made in Japan? I have had one for a long time. Old style Tanto blade. Leather sheath, never used.

First 3 can be one, the strongarm :)
Kukri stays,
Next a machete, something like a cold steel katana,
An axe or a tomahawk.
And a tank, of course, full with guns and ammo :)

2) Gerber Strongarm (fighting and bushcraft)
3) Gransfors Bruks Scandinavian forest axe (wood processing and shelter building)
4) Silky Gomboy 270 (wood processing and shelter building)
That is my list, but it includes an axe and a saw, since I would rather have those 2 things than another blades.
@@Sanderson890 agreed. I would be leaving behind some nice knives. But it's not worth the weight considering everything else I would want to carry
Gomboy is a good move
Strongarm too short for fighting . 6" minumum

3. Buck 119 Special
@@michaelarnaud1775 it's always good to be prepared
The Bob Ross of prepping 😂👍❤️🇺🇸
Exactly! 🤣
1. Swiss Army RANGER 57 M GRIP: for fine work, game processing, and tools for scavenging.
2. Leatherman Wave with bit kit: for repairs and scavenging of items I find.
3. Cold Steel Tai Pan: for my defensive blade, I like the 13” dagger with wide enough bellies that it also slashes well
The kukri 💪
