She knows very well, as a left wing female, how freely can use terms such as mansplaining today which, by definition, is a sexist term. She then goes as far to say "I'm sorry that you're offended", ergo reinforcing the fact that one can choose to be offended or not, but it indeed should prevent one from being able to speak their mind and be acknowledged. No. We don't have 'Affirmative Action' quotas in Australia -- never have had (indeed, our Equal Opportunity Act essentially forbids them). Believe it or not, she was actually voted into office!
Sinnergism we do have quotas. They are socially enforced for the most part but are quickly moving towards legislation. Boards of directors and governments in australia now have a mandate to acknowledge gender equity in the work place and many do it simply to avoid any negative back lash from crazed special interest groups. Affirmative action is rife now in Australian politics and large businesses.

They exist not the electoral system itself but in the all-powerful party system (the Australian Labor Party has thing called "Emily's list"). Women who get elected with its support, who are typically either middle-aged feminists from the union movement or young party-member "staffers", then vote as a block, even on supposed "conscience" issues, because they know how they really got to be elected.

It is important for us to recognise that we have had a tendency in that those in power have often used derogatory language to devalue the point of view of those opposing them. My sadness is that Ms Gallagher, rather than taking the moral high-ground of showing exemplary behaviour as a representative of her nation, has chosen by this statement to join forces with those who devalue people. I do hope that she has learned from this and grows to being a better, more inclusive representative in the future. :(
