Mandibuzz carried Gen8's role of tier quality control so hard that it deserves an award as any other pokemon's back would have broken 100x over in the same role.
It's honestly mindboggling to me that Mandibuzz actually played a key role in dropping Aegislash, of all Pokemon, to UU. I NEVER thought I'd see the day that happened!

this is essentially a rags to riches story in pokemon. it's amazing how it went from something that was never even touched to being the one thing that held the metagame together during one of its darkest times.
so she went from being just OK, to being the only thing in OU that could keep several god tiers in check... That's quite an accomplishment for a non legendary Pokémon! And especially for starting in nu.

The only vertebrates I can think of off the top of my head with a more extreme female dominated dimorphism are Hyenas and Angler fish if excluding species where sex varies depending on an animals social status in the hierarchy(Anemone fish have the territory holder become female for instance) Though I honestly never liked the whole male gender only evo lines I can see it for legendaries intended to be unique(to a given multiverse branch) or for lines where the male and female counterparts share eggs but for everything else it's just stupid. @@Dragrath1 I guess in some cases it was because otherwise it would've been a design issue like Tauros and Miltank, in other because they just wanted a cute duo for couples such as Illumise/Volbeat. It's mostly older Pokémon who had this separation however, more recent iterations of pokémons with strong differences usually keep both forms in the same Dex number like Meowstick or Indeedee. As for Braviary and Mandibuzz I think it was, despite being poorly justified, to further the gap between them since they're exclusives, and the male prevalence in Braviary might not be an oversight since Mandibuzz has the same issue: male condors are noticeably dominant, being bigger and heavier than the females.
Yeh if you wanted any of your teams to not just be the same clef dragapult pex over and over you just always ran it or corviknight(usually Mandy on offense, corv on balance)

It was replaced by Hippowdon for a bit until Tyranitar inevitable returned to OU. I think he went back after the first of the DLCs dropped, though I don't remember what brought him back.
Fun fact: Mandibuzz is the dark type who jumped to NU and OU like crawdaunt did, but both serve different purposes. Crawdaunt is the definition of a glass cannon while mandibuzz is an all round defender. Crazy this happened the gen fairies were introduced

Nobody cared about Ghost's lack of defensive resistances before because there just weren't a ton of STAB moves stronger than Shadow Ball, and also not a ton of strong special sweepers besides Gengar. But now we've got an Uber with higher special attack than Kyogre and it's packing a 120 BP STAB move complete with a Soul-Heart analogue for an ability.
Fun fact: You can actually still use prankster moves on your own dark Pokemon . Example, A contrary Malamar can still have its stats altered by a partner with prankster but not the opponents prankster.

Love how mandibuzz really hasn’t ever changed its move set/play style since beginning. With foul play/roost being rock solid staples then adding Defog in gen 6 to stay, and having one coverage slot for either toxic/knock/brave bird depending on the purpose. Really solid mon with useful typing.
Mandibuzz’s particular fondness for Cubone could attribute to the very grim Pokédex entries that Cubone has in every game entry. Plus GameFreak really wanted to keep players committed to generation 5 in order to acquire Braviary and Mandibuzz since level 54 isn’t too far off from pseudo legendary Pokémon territory.

I think that a Mega Mandibuzz with 50 in Special and Physical Defense, and Magic Guard or Regenerator, would be hilarious. It probably wouldn't be as good a wall with the reduce in Roost 8 PP though, but it'd still be a pain to take down. Given that Bisharp has finally received an evolution, it actually doesn't seem farfetched. Mandibuzz is a crowd pleaser.
I've used Mandibuzz a lot in the past, and it is one scary pokemon. 110/105/95 is really solid bulk, especially after you add in roost to the equation. 80 speed might not look like much, but that's actually quite a lot for a mon that's generally used as a defensive wall. Its attacking stats are bad, but foul play prevents it from being setup bait for physical attackers, it can learn taunt or whirlwind to prevent special attackers from setting up on it, and you aren't usually relying on it for its offense regardless. Its not the flashiest mon out there, but its reliable, and with good team support it can put in a whole lot of work game to game. It is a massive pain to get rid of, and if you specifically need what it brings to a battle, it does its job extremely well.
@@webbowser8834 Celesteela has a typing advantage on Mandibuzz, with 2 weaknesses, 8 resistances and two immunities instead of 4 weaknesses, 3 resistances, and 2 immunities. Celesteela also doesn't have a stealth rock weakness, while also having a much better offensive movepool and better offensive stats. Mandibuzz isn't outclassed though, since it has a better defensive movepool in roost, whirlwind, and taunt, and also doesn't need to invest in offensive stats to be a threat with foul play. So, the two are pretty different, Mandibuzz is a dedicated wall, while Celesteela is more a bulky attacker. For your main point though, yeah, Mandibuzz has insane bulk, and uses it very effectively. Its pretty insane and shouldn't be underestimated.
Yeah, Celesteela definitely has an edge on Mandibuzz in terms of overall utility, but the fact that the two are very much so in the same conversation with the former being one of the strongest OU defensive mons EVER speaks volumes about Mandibuzz's defensive utility.
mandi mandi mandi, where do i begin? from its utterly amazing defensive statline of 110/155/145 to its ghost resistance + roost letting it counter the terrifiying lunala, status immunity (besides gyaradosite) this alone would make any mon good but theres somehow more. defog, u turn, low speed, great matchup into most of the tier (unboosted metagrossite kartana, SD ndm etc) makes mandibuzz a generally great wall from fatter semistall builds to even some offensive builds due to them appreciating its profile. truly one of the best pokemon in the tier. LONG LIVE MANDIBUZZ
What a journey Mandibuzz has had. NU -> UU -> RU -> OU. I don’t think there’s any Pokémon that has been in a different tier in every generation it’s been a part of without those tiers being in a descending order. It’s cool to see it finish its unique trip throughout the tiers in OU (for the time being).
Mandibuzz has been up, down and all around. About the only tier it's *NEVER* landed in even briefly PU. I can't imagine what kind of insane power creep it would take to bring that about.
Facing down the Uber Tier and a bunch of Ultra Necrozmas, Marrow the Mandibuzz would one hit or two hit pretty much all of them after entry hazard damage. Its total count of KOs of Ultra Necrozmas was 10.
Actually Vullaby evolves into Mandibuzz at level 54, not level 56, but would agree with the frustration of trying to evolve Vullaby into Mandibuzz. Usually that amount of effort to acquire a Pokémon is along the lines of Pokémon such as hydreigon, aggron, haxorus, and tyrannitar, not so much for a two stage flying type Pokémon.
Can you do Mienshao and Mienfoo? That way, you could talk about LC again. I think a different format, for example Trick Room or the history of LC would be interesting
Mandibuzz went from a decent enough low-tier mon to the single best defensive pokemon in the entire game, which was the only reason OU didn't fall apart.

I feel like Mandibuzz is one of the most underrated bird Pokémon ever
He got shafted by being released with a mildly goofy design in a generation known for its plethora of egregiously goofy designs and moderate stat spread in a generation known for its extreme stat spreads
hard to get recognized for your solid stat spread when your best stat is 110 and there's multiple pokemon in your gen walking around with multiple 140s~160s
Hard to build an ironic fanbase when all those hipsters are pretending to swoon over Garbodar, Vanilluxe, and Golurk

Love how mandibuzz really hasn’t ever changed its move set/play style since beginning. With foul play/roost being rock solid staples then adding Defog in gen 6 to stay, and having one coverage slot for either toxic/knock/brave bird depending on the purpose. Really solid mon with useful typing.
Mandibuzz’s particular fondness for Cubone could attribute to the very grim Pokédex entries that Cubone has in every game entry. Plus GameFreak really wanted to keep players committed to generation 5 in order to acquire Braviary and Mandibuzz since level 54 isn’t too far off from pseudo legendary Pokémon territory.

Madibuzz has always been my favorite Dark/Flying type. I'm proud of using that lady in defense against Metagross, and now, Dragapult.
Mandibuzz being based on a vulture is quite fitting, as with it being a scavenger, it can make great picks in the competitive scene.
I think gen 6 mandibuzz received one of the best indirect buff in the history of pokemon

I think that a Mega Mandibuzz with 50 in Special and Physical Defense, and Magic Guard or Regenerator, would be hilarious. It probably wouldn't be as good a wall with the reduce in Roost 8 PP though, but it'd still be a pain to take down.
Given that Bisharp has finally received an evolution, it actually doesn't seem farfetched. Mandibuzz is a crowd pleaser.

I've used Mandibuzz a lot in the past, and it is one scary pokemon. 110/105/95 is really solid bulk, especially after you add in roost to the equation. 80 speed might not look like much, but that's actually quite a lot for a mon that's generally used as a defensive wall. Its attacking stats are bad, but foul play prevents it from being setup bait for physical attackers, it can learn taunt or whirlwind to prevent special attackers from setting up on it, and you aren't usually relying on it for its offense regardless.
Its not the flashiest mon out there, but its reliable, and with good team support it can put in a whole lot of work game to game. It is a massive pain to get rid of, and if you specifically need what it brings to a battle, it does its job extremely well.
110/105/95 bulk is insane man. For comparison, Celesteela has 97/103/101 defenses and is considered one of the bulkiest non-uber mons in history.
@@webbowser8834 Celesteela has a typing advantage on Mandibuzz, with 2 weaknesses, 8 resistances and two immunities instead of 4 weaknesses, 3 resistances, and 2 immunities. Celesteela also doesn't have a stealth rock weakness, while also having a much better offensive movepool and better offensive stats.
Mandibuzz isn't outclassed though, since it has a better defensive movepool in roost, whirlwind, and taunt, and also doesn't need to invest in offensive stats to be a threat with foul play. So, the two are pretty different, Mandibuzz is a dedicated wall, while Celesteela is more a bulky attacker.
For your main point though, yeah, Mandibuzz has insane bulk, and uses it very effectively. Its pretty insane and shouldn't be underestimated.
Yeah, Celesteela definitely has an edge on Mandibuzz in terms of overall utility, but the fact that the two are very much so in the same conversation with the former being one of the strongest OU defensive mons EVER speaks volumes about Mandibuzz's defensive utility.

mandi mandi mandi, where do i begin? from its utterly amazing defensive statline of 110/155/145 to its ghost resistance + roost letting it counter the terrifiying lunala, status immunity (besides gyaradosite) this alone would make any mon good but theres somehow more. defog, u turn, low speed, great matchup into most of the tier (unboosted metagrossite kartana, SD ndm etc)
makes mandibuzz a generally great wall from fatter semistall builds to even some offensive builds due to them appreciating its profile. truly one of the best pokemon in the tier. LONG LIVE MANDIBUZZ
What a journey Mandibuzz has had. NU -> UU -> RU -> OU. I don’t think there’s any Pokémon that has been in a different tier in every generation it’s been a part of without those tiers being in a descending order. It’s cool to see it finish its unique trip throughout the tiers in OU (for the time being).

Mandibuzz has been up, down and all around. About the only tier it's *NEVER* landed in even briefly PU. I can't imagine what kind of insane power creep it would take to bring that about.

As someone who used Madibuzz quite a lot, and got a shiny Mandibuzz as my first SWSH shiny..

Actually Vullaby evolves into Mandibuzz at level 54, not level 56, but would agree with the frustration of trying to evolve Vullaby into Mandibuzz. Usually that amount of effort to acquire a Pokémon is along the lines of Pokémon such as hydreigon, aggron, haxorus, and tyrannitar, not so much for a two stage flying type Pokémon.
Would love to see the continued love on the birds! After all, there's still a Gen 2 bird that needs a video... no matter how unfortunate Noctowl was.

Mandibuzz went from a decent enough low-tier mon to the single best defensive pokemon in the entire game, which was the only reason OU didn't fall apart.
