- waited till 1: 30 last night only for those three minutes...
it's a very annoying pseudo-intellectual tv show btw, and pj's presence at the end ---after 1 hour 40 minutes blablabla --- made me realise even more deeply how much courage and purity it demands to create music like this, in this crappy artificial world that we live in.
what a performance! speechless...

This is definitely one of the best live performances I have seen. The song sounds much more powerful than the album version. Maybe she she should have recorded the whole album live? Fucking Brilliant :)

I think I'd never fully realized how difficult this song is to sing, till I watched this live version. it sounds almost effortless on the album.

simple is genius, because she is by her self the vocal effects are added for atmosphere, it also reflects her vocal effects on the album.
Man, I love those high notes! "Teach me how to grow!" Her voice is amazing. Like everyone else here, I'm in love with PJ.
White Chalk is like a master piece, sung beautifully. But man, deep. deep. Not always healthy to stay that deep, and lamenting. But probably her most "affecting" piece. borders on therapy of some sort, but also depressing.
I came upon this browsing for additional tracks by Bjork and Tori Amos. What a score. Yes! I agree about the drab quality of her surroundings on the show itself. She seemed out of place but hung tight. Thanks

@ginbox Ok she is strumming. But the right chords. At the right time, in the right order. And with enough of a rhythmic feel to drive the song along. And really its the voice that matters, the autoharp is secondary, there to support the voice only. I think she does a pretty good job.

Passion of Darkly Noon was the film, but there was no soundtrack for it. The song was 'Who Will Love Me Now?', a cover tune she did for that film, sounding unlike most of her other music (glossier production style).
As far as I know, the only place that track is available is on the Civil War Correspondent' EP, from the 'Dance Hall at Louse Pt.' album period, circa 1996.
This is probably the video that I have watched most on youtube, and it's still magical every time.

You're absolutely right about your comment with the stiff french tv show. I bet they didn't came across someone this authentic in a long time. But I'm surprised. I was used to a ...at first very direct, angry, sweet Polly, then mature and wise Polly. Now she stripped down everything and turned into an innocent angel-girl, who is on time traveling. I love the dresses she has, all the same cut, but different shades. The fur on her seat??

This is beyond good...it is exceptional in every way. She hits notes most of us couldn't even dream of... the lyrical sound of the autoharp combines perfectly with the the shrill pleas and perfect tones of her voice. What an emotional trip this song takes me on. If music is about emotion, then P.J. Harvey is an utter genius!
