This is definitely one of the best live performances I have seen. The song sounds much more powerful than the album version. Maybe she she should have recorded the whole album live? Fucking Brilliant :)
OMG never saw this. I thought I mentally captured everything available from PJ on the net. So happy today this is stunning and beautiful beyond anything I've seen in years.
I think I'd never fully realized how difficult this song is to sing, till I watched this live version. it sounds almost effortless on the album. wonderful performance *__* love PJ more and more
A year after seeing this video as the first thing I've ever seen anything from PJ, it still is the most beautiful performance of a song ever, I love it, I love her!
She is pure magic, it´s impossible to describe her with words! She sings like an angel and her voice goes directly to our souls. All i have to say is tank you, PJ!
Oh my god, this song is sooo beautiful! At first I didn't recognized this than I looked after it and I got to know that she's got a new album!I'm so happy now
How beautiful is she? I just discovered the wonderful music of PJ Harvey and it pierced through my heart right at the first hearing... Definitely something not to experienced very often.
I came upon this browsing for additional tracks by Bjork and Tori Amos. What a score. Yes! I agree about the drab quality of her surroundings on the show itself. She seemed out of place but hung tight. Thanks
@ginbox Ok she is strumming. But the right chords. At the right time, in the right order. And with enough of a rhythmic feel to drive the song along. And really its the voice that matters, the autoharp is secondary, there to support the voice only. I think she does a pretty good job.
HAHAH, oman, i'm assuming every person in the audience was very uncomfortible, and left awashed to understand what theyre brains had just taken a part of, besides the obvious, best live preformance i've seen, Respect!
White Chalk is like a master piece, sung beautifully. But man, deep. deep. Not always healthy to stay that deep, and lamenting. But probably her most "affecting" piece. borders on therapy of some sort, but also depressing.
Jesus, what a voice. Seriously. Even if I could sing like that, I don't think I'd ever trust myself to pull it off live, but she just makes it look easy.
Clearly a statement made by one destined to live out his/her entire life bitterly (and futilely) dreaming of accomplishing something this profound. If you can't recognize the raw, heart-wrenching power of this performance, you will never recognize brillance, anywhere.
This is beyond good...it is exceptional in every way. She hits notes most of us couldn't even dream of... the lyrical sound of the autoharp combines perfectly with the the shrill pleas and perfect tones of her voice. What an emotional trip this song takes me on. If music is about emotion, then P.J. Harvey is an utter genius!
Passion of Darkly Noon was the film, but there was no soundtrack for it. The song was 'Who Will Love Me Now?', a cover tune she did for that film, sounding unlike most of her other music (glossier production style). As far as I know, the only place that track is available is on the Civil War Correspondent' EP, from the 'Dance Hall at Louse Pt.' album period, circa 1996.
This is definitely one of the best live performances I have seen. The song sounds much more powerful than the album version. Maybe she she should have recorded the whole album live? Fucking Brilliant :)
i so prefer this version. Such a great artist we are blessed to have her here
The definition of "nailing it".
Wow; mindblowing beautiful......when she pounds her foot on the ground......! Love it.
"And the gods made love...." Just gorgeous! The best musical artist/songwriter on Planet Earth from 1992 to 2007. 'Nuff said.
OMG never saw this. I thought I mentally captured everything available from PJ on the net. So happy today this is stunning and beautiful beyond anything I've seen in years.
I keep looking this up since years. I love it so much. (and then jump to 40 sec over and over).
I think I'd never fully realized how difficult this song is to sing, till I watched this live version. it sounds almost effortless on the album.

This is probably the video that I have watched most on youtube, and it's still magical every time.
I can't stop listening her!!
Goosebumps.
Such an amazing and unique talent.
White Chalk is like a master piece, sung beautifully. But man, deep. deep. Not always healthy to stay that deep, and lamenting. But probably her most "affecting" piece. borders on therapy of some sort, but also depressing.
Still my favourite video on youtube.
Jesus, what a voice. Seriously. Even if I could sing like that, I don't think I'd ever trust myself to pull it off live, but she just makes it look easy.
I wasn't much of a fan of her latest album until I started seeing videos like this, it makes much more sense live.
Wow!! so beatiful voice!!
Great!!
She's a complete goddess...such a beautiful voice coming from such a beautiful women, makes me feel I'm inside a castle made of glass
simple is genius, because she is by her self the vocal effects are added for atmosphere, it also reflects her vocal effects on the album.
