    Received the tail dragged kit in December. It took about 6 months from the time of order. It is in my garage and I have started assembling the wings first. I have a used Rotax and instead of rebuilding the carbs I am going to install a SDS fuel injection and ignition kit. This kit should not interfere with the top mounted oil cooler. I will need to add an alternator cause the Rotax PMA will not provide enough amps to support a fuel injection system. Have my fingers crossed as I am on the hanger waiting list……. The Bushcat is the only application where I see a double oil cooler for the Rotax. I imagine you have to cover one or both of the oil coolers when you fly in cool weather.

      We didn’t finance our BushCat so I don’t have info for you. We did it by building up a savings fund for nearly 20 years. Then there was this strange old man that I met on a dusty crossroad who offered me a BushCat. All I had to do was sign this paper (something to do with my soul. I didn’t read the fine print). Wish I could help you more in the pursuit if your dream. Good luck to you. Where there’s a will there is a way.

  • @mustardseedsociety
    @mustardseedsociety Год назад

    As per our "conversation" back in November, you were right. The Bush Cat is extremely hard to beat. The Velocity is probably not a good first project, and is certainly not a rough field aircraft. Now don't get me wrong, the Velocity does have some huge advantages - like for example it will float like a boat - now the trick is ditching in the water without flipping. I do like the Velocity glide ratio of 15 to 1. The speed is pretty amazing from a Velocity and it doesn't "stall". But 1100 plus hours to build verses what perhaps 400 for the "Cat" ?? I also like the clutch mechanism on the Rotax engine, but the negative is a gearbox teardown @ 600 hours if you use 100LL or 800 hrs for no lead,. Another good thing about the Cat is I'm ASSUMING there's no zero fuel limits since no fuel is carried in the wings, although even the twin Velocity has no zero fuel limits because the Velocity wing is INSANE strong, however the Bush Cat at +6/-4 is even stronger than most production aircraft. The other huge plus with the BushCat is no exposure to dangerous dope & fabric or fiberglass resin because of the sailboat material. When comparing useful loads with other light sports, the Cat is very hard to beat. So I will leave you with 2 questions - when you're in cruise at near max weight and doing a cross country, what do you usually end up trueing at ?? 90 MPH ?? {78 knots} ?

    • @bushcattom
      @bushcattom  Год назад +1

      I would say between 85-90mph cruise at gross weight.

    • @mustardseedsociety
      @mustardseedsociety Год назад

      @@bushcattom That's what Iwas thinking because when Daniella is asked that question, she kind of reluctantly says 95 MPH - which is probably optimal so I in my head subtracted 5 MPH. Oh I just realized I forgot to ask because I can't find the information - what is the glide ratio and what is the max demonstrated crosswind component ?? Also my wife who is a musician, wants to know if you're a musician ?? We both love the classical music you use in the presentations. But I tell you what Tom, your videos are so funny it's just crazy !!! But here's the thing - you are a living example that great comedy can be very clean and I would have ZERO problem with children watching your videos. I totally cracked up when your "puppet" {BushCat Bob ??} had the "press conference" concerning the sail plane video. I LOVE gliders too !! I have a whopping 5 hours {hive or take} in gliders from out at a glider school near Palmdale, California. But if I want to continue, I'll have to go with North Texas Soaring Association near Midlothian Texas a suburb of Dallas - out in the country {for now anyways !!}

    • @bushcattom
      @bushcattom  Год назад +1

      @@mustardseedsociety thanks for all the kudos. I believe the glide ratio is 10:1. The max x wind demonstrated was 35kts. Since they changed to the new empennage they scaled that back to 10- which is ridiculously too low. I have landed the BushCat is 45kt winds with 25kt crosswind components and had no problem holding the airplane straight down the runway. Actually with all the planes I’ve flown the BushCat wins hands down in crosswinds. Musician? Yes. I play piano. Played trumpet in high school. I also play a mean kazoo. I built my own recording studio. That’s what I use to create the videos as well. Glad you’re a Disco Bob fan. He’s my alter ego. Just as Suzy Sheep is my wife’s alter ego.

    • @mustardseedsociety
      @mustardseedsociety Год назад

      @@bushcattom Wow 25 knots is really high !! I think the C172 is like 15 knots component. What I'm really amazed about is the load factor of the Cat @ +6/-4. We know there is no zero fuel limits because there is no fuel in the wings. So how many hours do you have on your engine ?? And has your engine ran with no problems thus far ?? Are you going tō dō the 600 or 800 hour gearbox overhaul ??
