On my 11th birthday in 1983 my dad brought home a 49 dollar Huffy with the giant black banana seat for me when I had been asking for a Mongoose for much of the entire year. He tried to feign excitement as he gave it to me but he knew straight away that I was not into it. I was polite, but clearly disappointed. I am pretty sure I even said yea, maybe I will ride it. Later that day a friend came over and my dad said "What do you think of the boy's new bike?" My friend basically made fun of it. The next day my dad returned the bike and let me have my pick of the lower end bikes at a shop that had all the big names. I remember a Redline, a GT, Mongoose and a Schwinn, there were others, but those are the ones I remember. I took home the standard Mongoose as it was, if I recall, about $200, half the price of the Redline. I loved it. Accidentally forget my lock combination one day and it stayed locked up overnight at the local recreation center and someone hit it with a brick on the top tube. I was heartbroken. Back to the bike shop with Pops and we got a cheap replacement frame, and it was this exact one, the Schwinn Predator. I thought it was pretty cool as a kid, nothing was lost. I rode it for five years or so, not sure when or how I parted with it. I now badly want an 83 Mongoose and an 83 Schwinn Predator just to have up on the wall.
I have a 81 same only were the tear drop is on the frame its welded solid it dont got those lil slit holes wish i had those bars when i found mine it was just frame crank sprocket 3 peece og i also have a 86 freeform there both crome
I’m sure that’s a 81 , in 83 then went to a frame without a gusset. Then they move onto the oval tube . Those thing are nice . The predator doesn’t get the respect it deserves . I’m building a 79 sx1000 right now
I have a 81 Predator cromo same frame besides that Teardrop hole at the top of the frame I got those two lil holes on each side were u got the 2 lil holes and 2 lil slits on each side
That's pretty sweet! I just picked up a 1983 Schwinn predator off the curb. It's all original except the seat and the front rim. I was like a kid in a candy store. Thanks for sharing your video

The one I had came with 2 different tires came with a square nobby tire and rear tractor tread direction tire. Could never find the rear tire
I had one just like that back in the 80s. Put lots of miles on it. Sold to by a Haro sport. Wish I had them both back!
