Hirokazu Matsumura might just be the best rock arranger out of all of jdk. It's unfathomable how something this awesome can exist, and yet it does. This is one of the best arrangements in Falcom's history.
I can never decide if I like the PCE or Complete OST better overall. PCE is just such a classic, but the Complete renditions are real treasures as well.
@@Enesyuu I think they both have their pros and cons. PCE's got that catchy redbook audio the console was well-known for and Complete is more accurate to the original pieces and adds some flare to it! That solo before the loop, I love it.
I played through both Ys 1 & Ys 2 Chronicles+ after having them on the backburner for so long (4 years wtf) and I really don't exaggerate when I think Darm was the best boss fight in both games combined.
@@Zephhi He originally composed it, though. Up to you to decide if the composition was already so great or if this arrangement is the only reason it sounds good.
@@Purulixir I'm for real; the severe lack of really heroic or villainous music and the stage and boss themes being so similar are the only two real problems with the Touhou games' music. The former in particular is connected to the games' pattern that all the "bad guys" are actually just damaged and misunderstood while none of the "good guys" are much better... that _can_ work for a few villains and heroes respectively but once everyone is turned into that it really starts to eat into the worldbuilding and take all the teeth out of the games' plot hooks.
If i saw this comment a year ago i would have thought you're just a schizo, but after the boneless, tasteless atrocity that is Touhou 19 - i fully agree with you.

Why can't Touhou boss themes be like this?
because touhou's boss themes are touhou's boss themes.
