We've Never Seen A Storm This Bad In New Hampshire

  • In 20 years of living in New Hampshire, this was the worst snowstorm we've seen. 35 inches of wet heave snow fell, literally shutting us down and keeping us inside. Even the Kubota BX2380 with the BX2822 Commercial Blower was no match for the trees that came down.

    Man.
Seeing this footage… what a bad storm.
Glad y’all have that tractor and blower and we’re able to make it through.

Just a bit south of you, and we only got 22" of cold mashed potatos. Heaviest stuff I've seen in a while. Every single tree on my property was damaged to some extent. It's been a week and it's already mostly melted away. The joys of winter in new england!

I hate wet snow. On Feb 4, 1997 we got 36 inches of it in 24 hours in eastern Kentucky. It was my birthday. I was supposed to be off work that day. I got called in to work to help. I worked for the local power company at that time as an engineer. I did not go back home for almost a week. Luckily our house was only out of power for about one day or my wife would have killed me. That was one long week that I hope never to repeat. And the best part, the company had changed the rules about a month before and engineers no longer could receive overtime pay for extra hours worked. Previously we had been paid straight time for overtime hours related to outages. I will never forget the gratitude shown by our rural customers when you showed up with a crew to get their power back on. They brought hot coffee, sandwiches, whatever they had to offer. Urban customers were not so nice. Long winded comment, but I am glad you and your family made it through with no major damage. Rest up.

You guys got crushed. Supposedly, Concord got a foot. I didn't see a foot in my yard. I think we got the point. You got a ton of snow. Go clear the snow and get in the house, take a nap, have fun with Emma and Jackie and call it a day.

Snow day rules were in effect for sure. We’ve been biting off the clean up in small bits. All work and no play makes Jack a dull farmer. Haha.

We didn’t have as many trees bent over and down as you, and miraculously we didn’t lose power. It just kept snowing… and snowing… my tractor was apart for front axle work (which I just finished), so I was out there with my Ariens deluxe 28 snowblower and cleared 4x. We got about 20” in Strafford. Every time I finished clearing, there was already another 1-2”. And the soft partially thawed ground was a mess!

Blower still looks like the right solution for that sized tractor. Thankfully storms like that are few and far between here.

Jack, thank you for giving me a true sense of what was going on at my dad's home down in Winchendon. He tried to tell me it wasn't that bad, but I was talking to him when a tree came down and he was hit by a branch! He is ok (hard-headed) They were without power for 21/2 days. Reminded me of 1978, but that snow stuck around for a bit. Glad you and the family are okay.

That very last frost got the best of all of us just shake our heads and replant, snow blow 427teenth times😂😂 or restock livestock that got caught in it… just keep moving. Had a dog get into our pig pen yesterday causing our big momma pig to blow through it to protect her babies and that exact frost got my potatoes (they are coming back with VENGEANCE!) and tomatoes!

I'm in central Maine and we got about 8 inches. That stuff was like concrete, I would but some extra sheer pins. Love your videos.

We are just over the border from you in New Brunswick. I hope we don’t get much snow as I am done with frozen water lolol. Took my first big wipe out at work on black ice 😢 sprained my ankle really bad

Absolutely gorgeous in the beginning. But at a cost. Seems like every time you run that blower you go through a few shear pins. I started thinking if you could find a rod of the same thickness and shear capability and then you could just cut off an inch or so every time you need it. Versus having to buy individual one.
It was tough and unpleasant, but you gritted it out and persevered. I appreciate you!

Wet heavy snow like that is when it’s best to put the loader and bucket back on an just start scooping. I love using a snowblower because you can get snow farther out away from everything but it’s truly hard to beat the loader an bucket for heavy snow clean up.

I am a bit east of you. Had to do my driveway three times because my snowblower is 46 years old and doesn’t throw as far as it used to, but starts on the first pull every time.

Also try using tire shine on the shoot, I treat mine before the snow and it cuts down on the shoot clogging.
