My first Transformers were hand-me-downs from my father. He bought the original Insecticon trio, Jetfire, Soundwave with Buzzsaw, what was left of Shockwave, and the original Optimus Prime. From there the films got me into the franchise and I've been a fan ever since. If two characters deserve the commander class treatment for the 40th anniversary of Transformers, it's Optimus and Megatron. You can't convince me otherwise when it comes to the anniversary designs.
I’m excited for a proper mass production Optimus Prime. I personally do not collect much outside of G1 and I’m always happy when figures outside of G1 are produced for those fan that love those characters. I don’t understand the discontent when a figure like this gets announced.

You'd think so, but I have NO doubt in my mind that there will be non G1 fans complaining that YET another G1 Soundwave and Bumblebee get made.

People may be complaining now. But mark my words. Once they see the toy they’ll go after it like hot cakes. I know for a fact that Prime is gonna be a hot ticket item of that year. Plus it gives G1 fans something to look forward to since Legacy United doesn’t have much for them.

The idea I came up with that would instantly sell me on this figure is if they made a Peter Cullen figure to display it with. I know it's very unlikely, but it would be awesome to see.

THANK YOU! I am honestly annoyed with the number of people that really believe SS86 Prime will be some kind of Earthrise/Kingdom retool. I might of understand that if we didn't just get Ultra Magnus, which was borderline Masterpiece in CHUG scale. And I am usually the guy that gets annoyed when people throw "mini masterpiece" for every great figure Hasbro makes... That is why I believe we will see a Prime that will visually come as close to MP-44 as possible at that budget, with bunch of accessories.
well on some level I can't blame them for thinking that, due to SS86 Coronation Starscream basically just being Earthrise Starscream.
@@shebakoby yeah, but I am sure Hasbro is well aware "SS86" Starscream can still be found on the shelfs, what, two years after it was released? :D Also, price difference between Voyager and Leader class figure is $20, which is OK for bunch of accessories, but difference between Leader and Commander class is $35, which is a full voyager figure, so beefing the package up with bunch of accessories would not be enough... Rodimus Prime was basically that a Leader class figure with bunch of accessories and most people hated on him just because of that price.
And finally, after we saw what they can do with Ultra Magnus, nobody will buy Commander class SS86 Prime if it turns out to be anything less than smaller scale MP-44.

Imo, he needs to basically be as much of a leap forward as MP01 was when it released. (With fixed truck obviously.) That toy was the 20th anniversary Optimus and had so many unique gimmicks, like a communicator, wheel suspension, pistons, and a moving mouthplate
I'm excited to see what they come up with for his design but they need to pull out all the stops and make him as close to masterpiece quality as possible in my opinion. I also wish they would make SS 86 versions of all of the bots in the 86 movie. I know they released G1 reissues of Hound, Thundercracker, etc but it would be nice to get the SS 86 treatment for Prowl, Hound, Windcharger, and all the other bots that they haven't done yet. Perhaps one day they will.
The only thing I would add to that is have Optimus come with his energon axe. Not that he necessarily needs to have it, but it would be a nice bonus for me.
Just seeing the news that SS86 Optimus is gonna be a thing for the 40th anniversary brought so much joy and I can't wait to see how THE Giant Truck Man turns out
Honestly, I'm excited for him. I missed out on earth rise Optimus, and he's so expensive now that the ones that missed out on that one have 86 to look forward to
No matter what we say we want to see this is already done it's been designed and sent to production 2 years ago. We can hope these are things they took into consideration when doing it we can hope we're not going to be disappointed when it gets announced. But it's already done. I can't wait to see it though
i wish megatron can be a gun again, it's kinda pointless to put him in studio series 86 if the alt mode isn't accurate
I'm very excited for this I have been waiting for a true G1 OP for long time... This will definitely be an all new mold.. Hopefully, this will pave the way for 86 soundwave and even a new 86 megatron.
I'd absolutely love an SS86 G1 accurate Megatron, but unfortunately the laws around realistic looking toy guns in the US and UK make that incredibly unlikely

Been a while since we've had a genuinely awesome Megatron, WFC trilogy was ok, but a bit too blocky imo and I think the Bumblebee concept is cool, just wished he had a more cartoon accurate face like that 3rd party Megatank figure. God that thing was amazing

Hasbro can absolutely do a gun Megatron, they just won't. Stick an orange cap on the barrel and the Government couldn't care less. Hasbro is afraid of the lawsuits that will come forward when inevitably someone gets shot for pointing Megatron at a cop. They won't take the risk. Especially with their stock being down.
That won't be accurate, and you WILL have people complaining about that. Plus, maybe they could get away with just the orange cap years ago.
Now, they wouldn't be able to, not unless he wasn't going to be his silvers and greys. Hell, Classics Megatron had so much green and purple because of that. Either he's the correct colors but not a gun or he's a gun but so many multiple colors. You WON'T have both.
It's not just the toy laws anymore. Just look all around you. With all of the gun violence now in the US, you really think Hasbro is going to push their luck just to placate the nostalgia of a few babies that can't grow up and accept that things have unfortunately changed in the world around them?

I agree with you completely. anyone who says that G1 infects transformers ect thats just stupid G1 came first I’m not saying we need it all G1 I like seeing other toys from other shows/movies. but if people don’t think for THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF TRANSFORMERS that they wouldn’t make a Optimus prime and wanted some obscure characters from bayverse of all things instead? Edit: that all being said I don’t think this should be commander class maybe make it $60-$70 if it comes with a large trailer and a ton of accessories either that or it has very good engineering.

Commander class G1 Optimus NEEDED to happen as soon as Kingdom Rodimus did.
Anyone who has Kingdom Rodimus, Earthrise Optimus and Kingdom Magnus and thought that Optimus and Magnus were still good are delusional. It's even worse now that we have a commander G1 Magnus that's leagues better than Kingdom Magnus. Earthrise Optimus objectively looks bad next to those two commanders now.
For reference, Rodimus has more parts in both of his arms OR both legs than Earthrise Optimus has parts. Rodimus has More parts in his legs and arms combined than Takara Legends Super Ginrai has parts in totality. I think that Rodimus himself has more parts than Super Ginrai with all the PE upgrade kits for him. That Rodimus figure on his own is an absolute beast with how much they packed into it and they still made that impressive trailer to boot. It is well above any Generations leader class that's come out in years despite people claiming that the Rodimus figure itself without the trailer is only a voyager at best. Really? Just stop.
I want an Optimus that can compare to that. I don't care if it's Legacy, Studio Series or some sort of special release. It HAS to happen.
As for Megatron. Tanks are proving to be too large to get a really good G1 accurate robot mode in the voyager size class and maybe even the leader size class going by just CW Megatron. So why not go smaller for the alt mode? If G2 Megatron is a tank and G1 Galvatron is a mobile cannon of some sort then what about G1 Megatron being a stationary cannon? A howitzer perhaps?
I mean that extra long barrel on it looks an awful lot like G1 Megatron's silencer. The stabilizers look like they can be good replacements for the stock. Then combine them in robot mode to form his large stationary cannon like the G1 toy could with the silencer and stock.
The main bulk of the howitzer itself could then form Megatron's robot mode. The Fusion Cannon/scope can just be an extra cannon on top of the alt mode. It's not going to be 100% accurate anyway as that would then require licencing fees so having the two barrels would make it look different than any real world version. Something can even be worked out to possibly make it into something resembling a handgun as well. Unintentionally by the designers of course.
The smaller nature of the howitzer body itself would really lend itself well to a clean G1 animation accurate robot mode. With Megatron's normal accessories forming the rest of the parts the cannon needs, the full focus can be put on getting the robot mode as streamlined as possible without needing to find places to hide big bulky treads or anything else. No needing to put extra engineering into making a rotating turret for a tank either. And being a stationary cannon that's upgraded into either a mobile cannon or a tank makes more sense than a handgun being upgraded into them.
I'd go so far as to put this proposed alt mode on a flatbed truck to make the whole thing a commander as well but then he'd start looking like a silvery grey G1 Onslaught in alt mode. Then you're also left with a flatbed truck to try and do something with. Maybe turn it into a mini space bridge or something lol.
Honestly if this is 40 anniversary They need to put out commader class Optimus Prime & Megatron. ( And they can miss me on the gun law crap. Just sell him online. All of us fans are all over 40. I seriously doubt we're gonna use megatron to rob a liquor store. Give me a break already.
Aaaay I was there. Besides that, one thing I meant to say on that stream was they made optimus and bumblebee transforming nerf guns, so while it would be low quality they could technically make a megatron gun
I’ll be getting one if the leak ends up being true. Love my Earthrise, but if SS86 can make the ultimate version, I’m going to put my Earthrise one in storage. We shall see.
After getting 86 UM this better be like MP44 with toon colors & be as tall as rodiums galavtron & Megs as in the toon OP was just as tall as them! Then the trailer better be bigger & longer! They better have roller & a lot of gear with him!

7:12: I already have a solution, RodimusPrimal, and I'm shocked nobody has ever thought of this: Make Megatron an artillery cannon similar to Galvatron! It makes perfect sense too, because Galvatron, as we all know, IS Megatron's reformatted self! Why can't we carry it full circle?
Also, the solution for a Megatron that can be weilded by Starscream, is to make him a cannon too, but add a hidden 5mm peg to use him as a blaster, like the Combiner Wars and Legacy legends/core Shockwave figures! Both ideas are genius!
Since they’re charging a whole commander price for a figure that’s a decent Voyager size, this needs a lot to be to the level of, or maybe better than Kingdom Rodimus.
What it needs and should have:
-Good transformation
-Good quality plastics
-Perfect paint applications
-Putting the leg wheels inside the legs for accuracy which no prime does for some reason
-The Classic rifle
-The Energon axe
-The trailer needs more detail than the ER
-Roller (it’d be cool if Roller could transform as a small core class to interact with the medbay in the trailer)
-Matrix and a detailed Matrix chamber
-Blast effects
-Lazer sword
This is a lot, but it’s a Commander so I think everything here is reasonable.
Hey pall, I completely agree with everything you just listed, but I was wondering what sets the present for the sword in your opinion. I'm just curious. Also, I just wanted to inform you that you forgot to mention that the trailer needs to be properly scaled, too.
I wonder what kind of engineering and accesories it will have to justify the Commander Class price, anyways it's good news.
Maybe here's an idea for SS86 Megatron, having him turn into a 90mm M1A1 Heavy Anti-Aircraft Gun.
My biggest requirement is a fully loaded, in-scale trailer that has more going on underneath like the G1/G2 version. But to make his upper chest, those windshields will need to be squared and I am not sure how that will look in truck mode. I guess I worry about functionality versus accuracy.
P.S. If it was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, then only Raphael would be acceptable.

Got Ultra Magnus s86 and if they do the same nice job on prime, I'm totally sold and just can wait. Hope Conehead S86 will come in a near future as well. For Devastator S86, I see it more as a Haslab projet for the 40th anniversary. And agree with you, just be happy with the other Transformers univers realese for those fans, there is enough stuff for everybody to be happy. :-) Keep up your good work 🙂**sorry my for my English**

I got Reactivate Optimus Prime this week and I really want them to make the SS86 version on the same scale as it he doesn't look entirely dwarfed by SS86 Grimlock to the point that it looks ridiculous like the Earthrise one does.....and funnily enough Reactivate Optimus Prime's arms are the right length and almost posable enough to do the matrix poses too.
As cool as it would be to get the Cloverfield parady who dies as soon as the battle started as a toy, he's not exactly anniversary worthy. They'll probably give us him later. We do need more Commander Class Decepticons though, all but two and a half are Autobots!

For Kingdom Rodimus Primes and some of the other Rodimus Primes all have some flaws. Either breaking, or the constant cannon in his space Winnebago molds (G1, Masterpiece, Kingdom). Except for the Classics series lacks the third tail pipe, and the car is different. The issue I have with Kingdom: that you can see his car with four wheels with the trailer. His Hot Rod variant isn’t any better.
POTP, Rodimus has issues with his tail pipes not lining up properly and his second mold shows his hands. The only ones that are good are Studio 86, and Titans Return.
They need to have his eyes light upwith blue leds that would be awesome

In my opinion, Michael Bay is a great director. I've been a fan of his movies for a while as his action and explosions are off the chain. HOWEVER, his take on the Transformers was so far off the mark, that the entire Bay-verse was unenjoyable. Some were better than others, yes, but either he didn't care about the source material, and the lore, or intentionally wanted to do away w/it. Then the Bay-verse chose to ignore a major part ,a key component of the TF lore, that being how every TF, Autobot & Decepticon alike, every TF character's name was tied directly to their specialty, power or ability. For example, Trailbreaker was a very durable, off-road 4x4 truck. Skywarp was named after his ability to teleport. Ironhide because of his highly durable he was. Cliffjumper because of how fearless he was. Bumblebee because a as a Volkswagen Beetle so he's the's smallest Autobot etc. Bay's interpretation off the TF's not only deviated from that, but he flat out ignored it. Why they made Bumblebee a Camaro is beyond me
That's why I love the MP line as much as I do, because more than any other line, it's the cleanest, most G1 show accurate line there is on the market.

What if SS86 Megatron transforms into a "blaster" and not into an actual gun? I mean, we have Star Wars Nerf toys and Megatron kinda looks like a Star Wars blaster from the original trilogy.
Not gonna work. Look at Classics Megatron. They couldn't even color him in his primarily silver/grey. He STILL needed lots of greens and purples to get around that.
Hell, look at all of the Star Wars Nerf toys. Pretty much all of them have the same issue. Oranges, greens, etc., to highlight that they're mostly harmless TOYS. So no, "blaster" isn't going to work.
The only gun Megatron I could ever see them do is a modified version of the giant cannon he turned into in the Combiner Wars cartoon, but with the grip transformable into something else than a gun's grip. Overall, basically like Siege Shockwave, where it's an alien ship that only suspiciously looks like a long cannon barrel.
Otherwise, best learn to live with the tank, or maybe even if they can SOMEHOW make the G1 design turn into an aerial vehicle.
I would assume he comes with a flipping abdomen with battle damage or one you can exchange and launching into the air blast effects.
I get why, we are just flooded with Optimus Prime figures so much. 40 years of characters, plenty of variety.
Bayverse is mostly finished, Hasbro needs to get it done & Over with so the fans can be happy. Dragging it out is not good for the Fandom.
If this Commander is The definitive Version, a mini Masterpiece, and afterwards they slow down on G1 Prime figures and add more diversity, Prime's from different Continuities, I could live with that
They admitted that Hasbro makes a crazy amount of Bumblebees, it has gotten as bad with OP.
Best thing they could do is announce the next SS Commander is AoE Dinobot Scorn, or any non G1 fogure to calm things down. Not a lot of Options for the Size Class, so Devcon & Stratosphere(Rise of The Beasts OR RotF/DotM Video Game one) should.not be dismissed. I would get those for sure over another G1 Optimus.
If they repaint this in the Sleep Mode colors I would get that, haven't got one of that deco.
Well, yeah G1 Prime should be perfectly represented with this SS86 figure. However, the design of Optimus Prime will most likely remain consistent in that its G1 inspired in new versions. However, you have to consider one REALLY important thing about Hasbro. They have to make money. Will they make that much money on a Commander Class ROTF Stratosphere? No. Maybe with Rise of the Beasts and the TF team at Hasbro WANTS to release him. But their comments sound more like its the higher ups that think it will shelf warm. Devcon is even MORE obscure (much more than even G1) so the likelihood he gets made is even slimmer.
@RodimusPrimal Those are certainly fair points. Allow me to offer some others.
Hasbro needs to have a diverse lineup in each wave, flooding the shelves with the Big 6 will not be successful when Transformers has always been an ensemble brand with a large character roster. Popular characters will sell, but they have to offer alternatives. I'm also an obscure character enthusiast/ a donate, so I personally want less known characters to have their own figure.
There are a finite number of characters to fill the Commander Price Point; I have been thinking this about Tiatn Class as Well. Fans offering the idea of Devxon, Stratosphere, & Scorn are helping Hasbro by giving them.optio s, which are always a good thing. 8 have seen a very cool.list of 13 ideas for Legacy Commanders, but Studio Series has less.of a pool to draw from.
Perhaps most importantly, Hasbro.needs to satisfy the Fanbase, it's most devoted customers. I see a fair amount of arguments and infighting that would be solved if Hasbro just acknowledged what the fans want and focused on that
Not enough brands value retention and keep chasing new customers. We would have a happier online community fulfillednthe wishes of Bayverse fans and finished off the Movie Cast, and threw in some.obscure characters like the old.movie toylines did. I loved NEST and Hunt for the Decepticons, some of the best lines of my lifetime IMHO.
I think the fans are offering solutions, and we would be happier if Gasbro took them.
I'd like to see obscure Kingdom beast wars figures. Like generation selects overpowered blackarachnia predacon rhinox onyx primal overpowered terrorsaur ect. even heavy battle damage from the show. They would get torn up and it seemed like their colors would change slightly.
I'd be down for those releases. Possibly Generation Selects.

What I'm wondering if they did like a version of this Optimus Prime like in his final moments of the movie, where he turned grey after giving the Matrix to Ultra Magnus (I.E. Hot Rod since he touched it first, then gave it to UM), it may end up being a possibility, but who knows.
Earthrise Optimus Prime is a great figure, but not so good Trailer, but I still enjoy him. I gave him a third-party voyager scaled version of MP-10's Trailer which honestly works leagues better. Though with this 86 Optimus Prime, it's possible with this figure, they use MP-44's trailer and downscale it from Takara to use with this version.
Kinda don't wish to disappoint those wanting a proper G1 Megatron with his alt-mode to transform into a gun, but unless they brand that version as a non-realistic toy-size Nerf gun, that would be the only possible way that can happen and also be able to transform as well but in scale with Prime. But in my defense, a cannon or a Tank better suits Megatron.

I don't know why it's said that we can't have Megatron as a gun for the 86. Have you been to a Bass Pro shop lately? I caught a glimpse of grey/silver hand gun with a scope and automatically thought of Megatron. The only reason you knew it was a toy was because of the orange cap. Hasbro may not want to deal with that issue but the toy guns I saw for sale looked pretty convincing except for that cap. Put a cap on it n problem solved.

I get why the law exists for toys sold in stores like Toys R Us or Target but I really don’t know why I can’t order a gun style Megatron directly from Hasbro. I just watched a video where they sell a Star Trek Phaser replica that looks like the gun from the original series. It makes sounds and doesn’t need the stupid orange plug. So why can’t they do something like that for Megatron.
To be honest, do we really need a SS86 Optimus Prime, we got the Earthrise/Kingdom version, so is it worth it to get this leaked Commander Class of Prime.

I'm not disagreeing with anything your saying and hope prime get a new mold but I have a feeling that hasbro will go the star scream route do a few tweaks, make the trailer bigger with more accessories to get the figure to commander price point, until the official announcement its all opinion and speculation right now
They already overused that mold. They won't reuse it again. Also, they learned from Coronation Starscream, considering that thing shelfwarmed like crazy, and people only really got it for the throne; the figure was practically a throwaway, because it highlighted the flaws of the ER toy.
Otherwise, why did they make a completely new mold for Magnus? Or Arcee? Or Ironhide/Ratchet?

we should have got something else like something from the live action movies instead of another g1 prime especially this soon we had earthrise prime and the kingdom reissue,we had the Volvo optimus,legacy core g1 optimus and another one with the trailer with more g1 accurate paintjob, and two missing link g1 primes one with the trailer and one without and lastly we’re getting a deluxe legacy g1 optimus. This is just overkill and unfair to other transformers that desperately need brand new figures in the studio series line 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️

I get that it's the 40s and we probably should get a Optimus and Megatron but other then a small trailer the earthrise is great I'm kinda getting sick of Optimus and Megatron over and over I want new figures like thunderclash and thunderwing plus the trottlebots and so on
While I understand wanting other characters, Optimus and Megatron make Hasbro money. No matter how sick you are of them, Optimus and Megatron will always, in some fashion be on the toy shelf so long as Transformers are made.
