      It’s the mentality of him not playing anymore, knowing he can just sit on his arse and not lose money or affect his career. I’ve laughed at myself and friends hurting ourselves in much worse ways.

    He strangely looks younger than when I remember him playing. I always liked the lad. He could have been a prem legend at a slightly smaller club, and tripled his appearance count.

      @@BigWes95I’m no Cleverly expert, but I don’t think he was that shit. I do remember him being quite good at Watford. A Kevin Nolan type.
      What I was trying to say is if he started his career at a good but lesser club than United, really embedded himself within a football family, we could have seen a very different player. And I’m a Liverpool fan. I almost felt sorry for the guy.

    I always felt sorry for Tom.
    The stick he used to get was like maguire gets now.
    We used to see him a lot at Chester races but even there, there was always a few idiots that'd shout a load of abuse.
    When Sir Alex picks you over Ravel Morrison and Paul Pogba, it heaped pressure who through no fault of his own, was never going to be as good as either of them.
    He was much more professional though. An honest player who put in an honest shift.
    I respect that.
    Good to see him looking happy and chilled out

    Bit harsh on Blind, who was solid for United, just slightly too slow for the PL. Real harsh on Cleverley though, to be replaced by two midfielders, only to see one play solely in defense and the other shipped out after a season of playing worse than Cleverley ever did.

      He was. Doesn't matter what the fans say it's what people who played with and against him that matter. He was the footballers footballer.

    • @jedsithor
      @jedsithor 7 месяцев назад +1

      He was. There used to be a debate about Gerrard, Lampard and Scholes and frankly, Scholes was by far the best footballer of the three. The likes of Xavi and Zidane put him up as one of the best midfielders they ever played against.
      I'm not English but when I look back at England teams during the period when Scholes was playing for them, I often think that the traditional 4-4-2 basically ruined them. Successive managers would try to play Gerrard and Lampard as a midfield 2 but they were too similar and Scholes would end up shunted out to the left when really, managers should have been building the team around Scholes.
      A midfield 3 of Carrick, Scholes and Lampard could have stood up to any team in the world with Gerrard, the most athletic of those players, playing right or left.
