Poor Sarah, she thought she would never cry with Demon Slayer, little does she know that there is a lot of story to happen 😂
I didn't even last a whole season... 😭
I'm pretty sure this episode got a whole new generation of people into watching anime when it first dropped. It was extremely well received, and for good reason.
A lot of us have been waiting for this reaction lol
I can 100% see how that was the case. This was incredible.
This anime episode broke the internet, guys. Demon Slayer was first trending on twitter and news articles were written about it everywhere in 24 hours. It was BIG 😂
Not only is it most people's favorite scene in anime, the author of Demon Slayer cried watching this episode because she was hesitant on how the anime production team would portray this scene, but UFOtable did her vision justice to a tee.
Wow Sarah is really on her prediction game today. She was pretty spot on with the analysis on Rui just from observing his reaction to Nezuko protecting Tanjiro.
Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then
Btw, the Butterfly Hashira explained the whole "seeing you life flash before your eyes" to Zenitsu. Then Tanjiro does exactly that. When he was seeing that mosaic of his life moments, he just found a memory of his father which save his life.
You know, instead of this, my interpretation of the episode is that, Tanjiro properly learned the dance from his father before he was gone. Cause as his mother said, this dance has been passed from generation to generation, so there is no reason for his father to not pass it to Tanjiro.
Now, I think what actually happened is that, by remembering what his father said about how the way his breathing made it possible for him to dance without getting tired, Tanjiro realised that this ritual dance he learned long ago is actually a sword style, and a really strong one at that. I could be wrong completely wrong tho, since I haven't read the manga.
@@rasna2212 Perfectly explained! You just elaborated better, but that's it hahaha
@@rasna2212
I always thought that he just imitate his father cause his father died before he could teach tanjiro
Why did i thought he is just imitating his father's move just by seeing it?
Spoiler
Cause we Saw how tanjiro used lightning breathing when he is only hearing about the explanation
@@rasna2212 I've read the manga. You're right.
@@jiro6748 He was properly taught the dance. His father said to him in this episode "make sure these earrings and this kagura (dance) get passed down to you." Since he has the earrings it's implied he was taught the dance, too. All Kamado family members learn the dance (or at least the eldest sons).
I didn't see anyone mention episode 19 before in the comments, and I'm proud of this community for that. Being able to experience this without those expectations is something else.
Adam saying "it hits different"
Very appropriate choice of words lol
I will say: there is always a better thing.
This episode is one of my favorite in season 1, but we can look forward more. I'm pretty sure there will be more tears.
If anyone only watch this episode on youtube with Sarah, I strongly recommend you watch the full episode with music. The music and the ending song is so good, don't miss them!
Gurenge (the opening song) is also a awesome song Adam + Sarah + anyone else watching the show needs to also experience.
I think we know that I will be crying more.... it seems to be my thing.
100% your entire audience was here the whole time biting our lips trying not to spoil or hint that episode 19 was going to blow your mind 🤯
The week this first aired I'm pretty sure I watched it four times. Waiting a week for the next was painful but in a way I'm glad we all got to soak it in for a whole week back then. I'd been enjoying the show until that point sure, but this was next level.
By the way the song that plays at the end (Tanjiro's song) is amazing and I still listen to it all the time. Just hearing the first few notes is enough to get me feeling emotional.
Can we take a step back and give a HUGE shout out to the production team for Demon Slayer??? I consume a fair amount of anime and I dare say that this is the most aesthetically beautiful artwork in an anime this decade, if not of all time. Granted they were given a budget for a movie, but just the way the water and fire moved so fluidly in the fight scene is absolutely stunning!
This episode was incredible overall but especially from a production standpoint. It was amazing, the music and animation. It’s incredible what they did.
yet JJK won the award for animation :)
watch more animes !
i’ve been waiting for this one since ep 1 omggg😭😭
Me too, and I didn't even know it 😭
It's crazy to think that in the manga the Hinokami Kagura was a single page but the anime went with a crazy sequence.
OMG IT'S FINALLY HERE, THIS IS THE EPISODE THAT BROKE THE INTERNET, WHAT A BANGER
"This might be my most favorite episode of anime I've ever watched."
I've seen decades worth of anime more than Adam, and when this episode aired, I felt the same way.
Building on Sarah's observation of how Tanjiro and Nezuko familial bond contrasts with Rui's that traps his "family" in his web through fear, and Adam's observation of how Nezuko is able to connect with her past seemingly unlike other demons who are unable to outside of their deaths, the demons we see in the story are often defined in some way by their tragic circumstances. But despite abandoning their past and humanity, because they forgot those painful experiences of when they were human, ironically, in their attempts to escape it, they subconsciously become further trapped by their circumstances as they never grew past it, their final moments usually of regret.
Contrast this with Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenistu and Inosuke's flashbacks in life or death situations, the memories they recalled were blissful, something that gave them strength because they did not forget/abandon it, their hardships only making them stronger. Despite the devastating fate of Tanjiro's family, he still recognized what he had and pushed forward to help others and heal Nezuko, and Nezuko, despite suffering that same loss and becoming a demon, still held onto her humanity, crying for Tanjiro who still saw her as his sister and refusing to give into her temptations, protecting her brother instead of succumbing further into despair. The loss they experienced is indescribable and would shatter anyone, but they still persevered in spite of everything due to their inseverable bond called family, holding onto past and present connections to move forward towards a future demons don't have.
Wonderful reaction as always, I adore both of your reactions and the discussions you have, they help me see and appreciate things I hadn't before. I'm grateful everytime I see you guys in my subscription.
First of all, thank you 💕 That is so nice to read.
I also love the way you explained this. Beautifully done, and I love how perfectly you described the differences between the main protagonists and the demons they face.
Goddamn... this episode is a masterpiece. The animators went absolutely INSANE in that final sequence. So clear that so so much love and passion (and hype) went into it.
It is really hard to describe, but demon slayer really hits different. The emotions, the themes and ideas all struck a core that is so universal you just feel it.
It’s kind of crazy they can accomplish this with characters that are so far to edges of their personality traits. It really is a work of art.
For clarity, Nezuko didn't experience a near-death flashback. That was her mother's spirit talking to her; similar thing happened to Tanjiro when he was taking the final selection test and got knocked out for a bit, and one of his younger brothers' spirits came and yelled at him to wake up. Also, I think that another similar occurrence happened with Zenitsu, when his mentor's voice was yelling at him to "Never give up", though I'm not sure if he's already dead or not.
Also the Sabito and Makomo episode.
Spoilers
I don't remember it ever being explained in the manga, but the Kamados (or at least Tanjiro in particular) have an unusual connection with the dead. His dead family saves him several times (either directly or through Nezuko) and he never would have taken the final selection to become a demon slayer if Sabito and Mokomo didn't train him. Rengoku speaks to Uzui about watching over him in the entertainment district, and later on Tanjiro gets inherited memories from his dead ancestors.
@@camelid90 They don't have any particular connection. It's just a natural part of this fictional world, taking from its religious inspirations. It's shown to happen to many others as well.
@@natalimoina True but i think its more special for Nezuko and Tanjiro because they are from a family that dances for the Fire God. The family should be religious to some extent, therefore the Fire God, and may even have some sort of spiritual power that is not related to the story(of demon and stuff). Which is why they constantly have visions of spirits, especially for Tanjiro, where he can even see spirit of Sabito and Makomo even when he don't know them at all. This is not just vision from memories or from having close relation with the spirit. He can also interact with spirit that he dont neccesarry knows and have close relation with.
hey hey hey, that's the moment Adam will be hooked on Demon Slayer!
I'm running out of air from all these intense episodes. 😫 This episode was done so well both with the visuals and the sound and the storytelling all around. I can't wait to see what happens next. I hope Giyu saw that.
“I don’t know how it could get better than this…”
BHAHAHA 📈
I was waiting for this masterpiece
Same, I couldn't wait for them to get here!
So was I, and I didn't even know it 🤩
I can't wait for S2E10.
Fr
Wait for 21 weeks 😂
I always forget how rough the cliffhanger is from episode 18 to 19 until I see it again, I think cause I'm always already so excited for 19 lol The hype for episode 19 is real. Demon Slayer was doing pretty well already but this episode really skyrocketed it to fame. The animation, OST, and audio design in the entire sequence is amazing. I still get chills every time I watch it lol Genuinely one of my favorite episodes of a show ever.
I remember reading this in the manga first, so I thought they'll use some epic music in the fight scene against Rui, and was VERY pleasantly surprised to hear that sweet melody, like a cry for hope and light. I believe is called "Tanjiro's song" and it's amazing no matter how many times I hear it, I'm glad you've heard it now too!! Please look for the lyrics if you can, they're great and add a lot to the scene
I remeber when this episode cam out, the creator of this story tweeted that she cryed so mutch when she saw this. This episode alone chanced the anime scene since then.
While I definitely have my issues with season 1 of this show, I genuinely think there’s no denying that this episode is incredible… from the music to the sound design, the overall quality of the animation, the foreshadowing from the start of the ep in the conversation between Zenitsu and Shinobu (life flashing before your eyes is because you’re searching your memories for a way to survive), the emotional weight of the flashbacks - the way everything culminates here is insane.
I can definitely understand why it trended worldwide on Twitter that day lol.
Great reaction as always! I’m looking forward to the rest of this season (and even moreso season 2, which I think is much better overall)
Yes, this also is my favourite episode of this anime. To answer Adams concerns about the swords, they are Katanas, they work different from european midieval swords. I'm not an expert, so I apologize if I say bs, but from what I heard katanas break easily but can real powerful depending on how you hold them and how you distribute your own strength. The pinky, for example, is the most important finger when holding a Katana. When Inosuke can't cut through the demon but Giyu can, then the problem isn't in the swords but in the difference between Giyu and Inosuke's capabilities, techniques and experiences. Again, I'm no expert, these are things I heard a long time ago and I'm sorry if I messed up anything.
Pretty spot on I would say - though there is a big difference depending on how much effort was put into a Katana - since they were made from bad quality iron (the metal quality in Japan is quite bad), the amount of times its folded and the time it takes to craft can make a huge difference to the fragility and sharpness of the blade. The more folded it is the closer it would be to european steel.
This was really interesting, thanks for explanation.
The song in the very last is named “ Tanjiro’s song”, very touching😭😭😭 It’s genius they use this song for the fighting scene!!!
The music at the climax of this episode, and during the credits was incredibly emotional to me. I'm glad the two of you enjoyed this episode so much. You've got a whole bunch more to look forward to as well! 💙
What a milestone!! hahaha this episode actually received an award for how beautifully it was made from the music, art, animation to the VA.. it actually made the author cried watching this and the last scene went viral on twitter and the anime community.. and i think this was one of few ep pauses from Sarah hahaha cant help but get hooked to it.
26:05 I liked Adams unbelievebale expression of "my favourite episode of Anime I ever watched" Only great 😂 And Sarah was close to tears on the last run of Tanjiro and Nezuko, what is 100% understandable. I like your reactions of Haikyuu, but I like your reaction to Demon Slayer a little bit more. Cuz that shows me that you really IN this Anime and that you really LOVE it.😆
I wish both of you a nice day, see you in the next week on the same 2 channels 😁
25:10 Baby Tanjiro saying "iki" is so sweet, I think I have to punch something. It's one of the cutest things in anime for me.
I hope you guys ended up watching the ending song through to the end! Anytime they pull out the manga art for special endings is 🤌
One thing I appreciate so much about you two is how observant y'all are and how you're able to take the things you notice and make meaningful connections and/or deductions.
I remember being rendered breathless and in awe of this episode the first time I watched it too. From the music to the animation to the voice acting...it was all so wonderful. I liked the series well enough before, but this episode was when I became obsessed with the series and cemented it as a favourite. I'm so glad you guys loved it too! Can't wait for next week's reaction!
Also, don't worry Sarah, if you're anything like me then more tears will definitely come in future episodes🥲
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE
Yes, this episode, when it was first released got people talking. The art in this episode was insane. It was so well-executed.
The episode was one of the top trends on Twitter when it aired, and Demon Slayer wasn't a huge show at the time
Tanjiro's finding that the Hinokami Kagura was what Shinobu (butterfly lady) said earlier this episode about your life flashing before your eyes when you are going to die is your brain looking for ways to survive from the experiences and memories of your life.
Nezuko's mom waking her up is not a memory though but the spirit/ghost of her mother (in a previous episode it was a brother doing something similar) urging her to wake up and save her brother.
This is likely one of the greatest episodes in all of anime. It's just that well done.
this episode " put the Anime on the map". when this episode came out , everyone was talking about it . everyone was asking " did you see episode 19 of Demon Slayer?" thats why i started watching the series .
I thought I'll never cry watching demon slayer,😂...just wait Sarah you'll cry every season on every backstory including the demons.
For this episode specifically the song that plays as the episode transitions from the climax scene into the end credits is a very important part of the episode. We emotionally and experientially reach a peak and the song helps that experience get more intense and grow deeper and more rich in nuances. The last scene brings us to a place and leaves us there, while the song helps us savor that experience and kind of helps our system ease while still enveloped in that experience.
Finally! The EPIC episode 19 reaction! I’ve been waiting for this! Episode 19 was what brought a lot of people to demon slayer, and the show just got better from here!
This was the first episode to make Demon Slayer go trending. Love seeing yall so invested.
ahahaha yeah episode 19 is what i was waiting for, it really broke out of the anime sphere and went trending everywhere online when it aired! top tier animation from the studio ufotable
So glad to see you guys enjoy demon slayer, it’s iconography and story has been everywhere and it’s nice to see such reactions, there’s actually a funko pop of tanjiro with the water dragon, and definitely fun to see you guys again! 👍😊
I was waiting for this episode for SO LONG! I remember when the episode came out and it exploded on the internet everyone was talking about it, and every animation youtube channel analyzed the episode lmao I'm so glad you guys enjoyed it!
I was really looking forward to seeing your reaction to this episode. My little sister and I grew up in Peru at a time when one of our parents was oversees and the other one worked all the time. So, I feel like I was just like Tanjiro protecting Nezuko all the time. But in a way, both brother and sister looks out for each other. That bond is not easily broken. So, like you, Sarah, I got tear eyed when I first watched it. I agree with you, the music really intensified the emotion of the whole episode. I'm so glad you didn't pause during the last moments of the episode. It really needed to be experienced altogether.
Finally it's Monday!!!, I love this channel and every prediction you make, I love that you don't skip anything and I live with you every moment of the series.😊
The first time I saw this episode, I loved it. This episode was, and still is my favorite episode of Demon Slayer.
Worth remembering that the 'powers' of demon slayers are, despite the fancy graphics, not elemental magics. Tanjiro isn't using water or fire, they're metaphors. The breathing techniques generally amplify strength, and my impression is they enhance some aspect of combat more than others. So water seems to emphasise agility, thunder increases speed, fire endurance, etc. The 'forms' are highly specialised attacks, presumably built on top of the breathing technique's strengths.
Doesn't disagree with your takeaway that Tanjiro is a 'generational talent' to be able to grasp and use multiple breathing styles. But it's still only the demons using magic. But that is interesting in itself, with the demons 'taking' strength from others, and the slayers having to find it in themselves though constant practice and experience.
This episode was a MILDSTONE for anime. For "my generation" (I'm 20 (actually 21 today is my birthday and I forgot already lol)) we all pretty much started watching anime with Death Note or Tokyo Ghoul... This episode tho was the starting point for so many people, and its pretty much as good as it gets. The ost, the animation, the choreography, the voice acting, the meaning behind things... Demon Slayer is kind of a lenient and straightforward story that is entertaining but not "outstanding", but the way it was delivered by ufotable makes it the reference show of how great a story can be portrayed and elevated to perfection; and close to no other episode before had done this.
Now, a couple of other Demon Slayer episodes match this, and other shows like violet evergarden, Fire Force, Jujutsu Kaisen come close to what Ufotable was capable of here. Such a beautiful episode, and what's to come. Keep up! :)
Happy birthday!!!!!
*milestone (also Happy Birthday🎉)
It is not a matter that how manny billion times you or I watch this ,ep 19 is way much hype and grand episode of every season so far..
If Nezuko eats a human or even blood Tanjiro will have to kill her and himself. They said that in the first episode. So no other way for her to heal than to heal herself
You probably do, but in case you didn't realize it. Did you know that the voice actress for Shinobu Kocho (Insect Hashira) also voiced Yor from SpyxFamily?
I like how you guys talk about the psychology. You guys are great; truly enjoyed the reaction. This episode is insane! Adam at the end couldn't breath which you can see 🤣
This is the episode, the animation, the music and the emotions go perfect. I see an analisys of the song, and when Tanjiro is about to sacrifice to kill Rui, the lyrics said it to, sacrifice for the people you love.
The best is for here to end it get even more epic
We're finally here. I've been patiently waiting since ep 1 😅
When I saw this episode on release I was SO hyped that I chose to go on Twitter to see what everyone else had to say about it, and the Internet was exploding all over the place for the entire day. Clips, comments, fan art, etc. people were going nuts
nice reaction, when i watched first time i was so excited with goosebumps, this szene and and music pass perfectly together, After that i watches this Scene around 10 times
I've seen a lot of anime and I get teary eyed every time I hear the song from this episode.
The music, the art, everything was beautiful.
I can only think of a whole chunk of amazing moments I can’t wait for you to see ❤😩
One of the greatest anime episodes ever.
Not sure which was better: the episode or Adam and Sarah's absolute concentration in the last sequence - were they breathing? I wasnt lol
yes this is the best episode of season one
😂😂😂 welcome to demon slayer, this was a great reaction!!
Ótimo react! Esse episódio realmente emociona muito!
this episode is so beautifully animated!
Sarah: “It’ll be hard to top this”
DSC: 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I was waiting for this my goodness the heavens have blessed me
The show just gets better and better. If you thought you would not cry with this show, just wait. I am almost certain even Adam will some inner rain by the next season.
It just gets more intense from here.
Absolute cinema 🎥
Haikyuu is an all season full anime experinece, as you keep reaching more episodes till the the end, you will unmistakably end up loving it with more heart:)
Good Reaction!!
Fantastic episode! This one took demon slayer from a good show to a great show for me
Hi again guys! So Giyu's sword outperformed the younger guys' swords because traditionally, a samurai's sword was entwined with his soul. The sword was meant to become a true extension of the warrior; so a sword's strength reflected that of its wielder.
Your discussions of Zenitsu are always hilarious - love how diplomatically you both put that he's a man-slut lol.
We agree, Rui's psychology is profoundly interesting; he created a family to whom he assigned protective/authoritative roles - parents, older sibs. Yet as the founder of this 'family', he would be the authority even if he didn't rule them with terror. He wanted to be loved, cared for, and protected, but in trying to force that, he made it impossible for any of them to satisfy him from the outset.
Someone else probably already mentioned the water-dragon thing - Constant Flux
Keeping expectations low is always a good idea imho, that way you're not often disappointed AND it ups the odds of being happily surprised. Can't wait for next week!!!
can't believe we're here already
I really like the Rui's voice.
Great work!
Video Start:
We are here people, episode 19, the big one
That is because Giyu is so much better than the rookies
Pronunciation banter is a win
Episode Start:
Spider-Web are some of the st- and Adam said it for me
Innouske loving the strong man and being inspired
AND HE WANT TO FIGHT
Giyu so deadpan
He said Tanjiro’s name right
Giyu takes no crap
100% he is in worse shape
Calling the pretty lady gramps is funny
I love the theory that your brain is trying to save yourself
It would seem to be wielders skill that dictates sword strength, like with Samurai
The web cage attack
Nezuko the demon meatshield
Family man is pissed
He wants it
Poor demon sister only wants his love
He gave the family roles and they failed, and the sister looks to be genuinely sad and to care for him
Rui do be Kizuki yes
He set up a whole family with himself as the youngest
I mean it makes sense, the 12 aren’t a family bond
One eye is hidden, Adam is right
If she drinks human blood though he has to kill her and himself
She wanted to be the family he wanted so bad, this seems so sad for her
Give me your sister
Tanjiro would never
Rui is a fan of forced adoptions
Wonder why the demon thinks a bond of terror is of family
It was the hidden eye
Drum demon had once been lower 6
Roles are life to Rui and Tanjiro failed his
Nezuko got demonnapped
Tanjiro totally just forgetting he has no sword to slash him with
Nezuko is all tied up it would seem but I won’t make the inappropriate joke
Tanjiro fighting a losing battle, out of his league
He is strong Adam, and he is the 2nd weakest of the 12
Confidence that is fairly well founded, man has stone skin
I love the stone skipping blows, I am with you Adam
DO IT NEZUKO
If she cuts herself open at least she will be free
No Adam, he is an idealistic shonen protagonist, he isn’t going to leave
Better to die trying than lose her while he is alive
Giyu’s sword didn’t break because he has better technique to not break it
Taniro won’t quit
He slashed the threads, form 10 is pretty powerful, love the dragon visual
The memory flashing comes back again, like Shinobu said to Zenitsu
Tanjiro’s dancing daddy
A frail father does not a demon slayer make
The dance and the earrings are important, there was a promise
ALSO RIP THE AWESOME MUSIC AND THE SCENE THAT BLEW THIS SHOW UP
I also love the power up isn’t from nowhere, he didn’t expect it but it isn’t just an ex machina
They have to save each other, how poetic
She makes her blood go boom
The animation in this fight is so good
Episode End:
This is the episode that blew up this show in popularity, the music is also amazing this is the episode we all told you about vaguely.
Adam sounds kinda close to tears a bit too Sarah
I am so obsessed with the memory stuff and being close to death
Sarah and saying “sword” wrong is classic
It didn’t grow back, that was the visualization of the blood, and Adam said it as I typed it
Innouske is going to be livid it will be great
Video End:
Just a little tidbit, tanjiro has the hinokami (fire) in his blood while the water breathing (water) is something that he learnt. He got the fire from his father 😊
hinokami, Hi means fire, kami means god, so it literally means fire’s god
with my lunch ready for one of the most epics episodes
i like the way you guys discuss thing...
Can’t wait for next couple eps of the season 🫶🏻🫶🏻
I told you last video…..this is one of the best episodes
If this was Adam's favorite episode, look forward to the future. Demon Slayer has many episodes like this, that stick to you
i remember hearing this episode got an award
Not sure if it's already been mentioned, but Rui's voice actor in Japanese is the same as for Tsukishima. Their characters have some similar characteristics. 😂
Hinokami, or Hi no Kami, could be loosely translated as "the god of fire". Dont quote me on that though because my knowledge of japanese is very limited haha
Rui being 'calm and collected', does he remind you of anyone from Haikyuu that is calm and collected.😏
Hehe~ It's Tsukishima! Rui has the same Japanese Voice Actor(VA) Kouki Uchiyama.
so what we get from this episode is that Tanjiro was never destined to have water breathing because his family has always worked with fire, you will learn more about it later ^^
After this episode, welcome to the Demon Slayer.
If you're taking requests for your next anime jujutsu kaisen is chef's kiss
I don't even LIKE Demon Slayer but this episode still gives me chills. goddamn!
I will see the Adam&Sarah reaction of the best episode of this first season and easy top 3 of the anime. That is a beautiful and incredible episode.
9:44 😂😂
cant wait to see your reaction in season 4 ep 8...😢
Definitely the best episode in season 1 :D
