If you can spend more time and effort, you can make your look like as if they have been piped very perfectly by using a paint brush instead of dresden tool. Dip the brush in water, dab it over paper towel and then shape the your pattern.

@@Bite-size-bliss the paper is just slightly under the cake so it comes out with a light pull. Its my trick because I cannot lift cakes again and again. I once broke the cake this way. So now i put the cake board right at the beginning and protect it from soiling with paper. No lifting cake without cake the board.

Its very nice. The dot method is ingenious. When you remove the paper from under the cake, doesn't it spoil the lower edges?
