- Colin Farrell and John Turturro talk ‘The Batman’ in a new interview with ‘Extra’s’ Rachel Lindsay. Colin dishes on his incredible transformation into the Penguin and his son’s ‘horrified’ reaction! Plus, John talks about his mysterious character Carmine Falco and reveals if he was inspired by anyone in real life. ‘The Batman’ hits theaters March 4.
The fact that his voice as the penguin is unrecognizable as colin farrell. It really is insane. Hes so awesome
Just shows how good he was in this movie . He is litterally unrecognizable
Actor does accent. Amazing.
Oh shit!! I just realized that now. I could see the classic Farell charm in there beneath the prosthetics but this is my first time watching a Farell interview.
I didn't even realize that the penguin was played by farrell until now :'D
He’s actually the absolute opposite considering he’s a scum ball and a sleazeball who did a porno with Kid Rock and a bunch of hookers… I still can’t recover from that and hate to see him in any movie now
Colin Farrell should be nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal as Penguin. He was incredible.
Same for the make up people, makes dirty grandpa look like a joke.
@@senister14 ahaahah sure does
I had no idea it was him
This transformation in itself is worth of an Oscar
Well no its not actually what a stupid comment
@@yungdorus5830 Except that’s a stupid comment, because it absolutely is, as there’s a category that covers such things.
Best transformation in a comicbook film since Danny DeVito.
Better. Danny is fantastic as was his makeup but you could tell it was DeVito. However, here you can not see or hear a single ounce of Colin. It’s insane!
@@Jordansparte Agreed, the make-up on Returns just made DeVito look like a human-penguin version of himself but here it almost transforms Colin into someone else entirely and the accent just immerses you further into believing this Oswald Cobblepot and not Colin Farrell as the character.
Say whatever you want but Jared Leto *looked* like jumped out of the Scott Snyder's comicbook run as The Joker.
But... You could still see DeVito in his character.
who transformed into danny devito
Colin Farrell: "I do not have twitter, Instagram, facebook. Not in a million years"
Guys. I think I found the smartest Hollywood celebrity
Agreed
Definitely, I binned Facebook and Twitter a while ago and only have instagram to follow my football team.
Yup
nor has cillian murphy
It would be a perfect world to thrive in your art without needing all of those platforms. I hate them but need them for online business. Catch 22
John torturo referencing frank Miller and his batman comics is so surreal
Johns son works for DC comics. So this role was really up his alley.
@Miles Doyle Holy wall of text Batman!
But he said the Last Halloween, it’s the Long Halloween. He slipped up right there lol 😂
in my day comics and we comic lovers were completely ignored. so i agree its surreal how theyve not only taken it from us as our own little private thing but now the writers are honored like shakespeare 😄
@@JazzyJeffRealTalk yeah, it's also not written or drawn by Frank Miller; it's by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale!
"Take is easy sweetheart" - Colin is going to steal the spotlight
Riddler did, but Colin Great too
Imagine the young Colin Farrell, as a boy, being afforded the opportunity to time-travel to the future to see himself at work on _The Batman_ movie set . . . and thinking that _that_ wasn’t prosthetics or special effects but legitimately indicative of how he was going to turn out physically by age forty-five . . . 🤣
Rofl
Hahaha thats funny. Poor kid be horrified, lmao. What amazing make up work though absolutely amazing. I was worried at first hearing that casting choice not acting wise I just couldnt c it but boy I do now,FARRELL will own this role over the probable trilogy.
He'd quit young and we'd never get the batman
@@rosemaryfarell5264 - actually, yes! When the speculative art from fans started leaking out after Farrell’s casting out I was similarly worried, and then they had the first on-set pics of him in a tracksuit with trainers and white hair. I thought they were going for a more ‘skinny white-haired Germanic aristocrat’ style of Penguin as some newer comics have depicted him. Nope - they’ve gone for something fairly traditional but with the same rougher edges of the _Arkham_ game series (though I was never over the moon that they gave him a ‘cockney’ voice in that, nor did the smashed bottle-base ‘monocle’ make much sense). Yes - they’ve really knocked the look out of the park! - highly reminiscent of Alex Ross’ artistic take on the character.
Penguin should be a fairly if not overly ‘grotesque’ and rotund man with aspirations of an elegance and social acceptance basically unattainable to him. I actually liked that Colin Farrell’s instinct was to have ‘Ozzie’ smoke cigars, and even tried to convince them to let him at least carry an unlit cigar to indicate Penguin’s penchant for tobacco products (but being a ‘superhero’ movie it was obviously a ‘no’ on that, and fair enough I guess). I imagine this Ozzie, in spite of his relative wealth and yearning to reach those trappings of it, not to be a one to indulge in fine cigars but to have a taste for the really cheap and nasty ones!
Then, as a consequence, he'd work out obsessively in order to avoid that fate..and he'd end up exactly the way he ended up being, the exact opposite of his role! A perfect loop!
Colin is a hell of an actor. He’s a pleasure to watch on screen since Tigerland
That Penguin performance was absolutely godlike! The spinoff series is going to bang so hard
I respect both of these guys for not telling us everything, and not being clout chasers.
They are adults lol clout chasing isn’t even their vocabulary. That’s for high school kids to say since they don’t even use it right. It’s supposed to mean power especially in a business setting. Not attention. That’s something else.
@Miles Doyle 🤫
His performance SURPRISED me. Don’t get me wrong. He was already an excellent actor beforehand but man he really went for it with this iteration of the character. Hopefully we get to see him evolve a lot more in the future! All in all bravo! 👏👏👏
Colin Farrell doesn’t have Twitter or Instagram. My sincere respect for this man.
Love this interview! Can I just say that the interviewer did a great job and asked really cool questions and seemed to really listen? Well done
Dude was like a Sopranos character. Stole every scene he was in!
Both of these dudes really killed it. This was such a spectacular cast
Colin Farrell is my favorite actor...and I don't think He gets enough credit for how awesomely talented He is...Love Colin Farrell🤗
Loved him in The Gentleman, almost unrecognizable just like in the batman!
@Bar1 Not low standards, just good taste, dearie.
Half of my brain: what an amazing transformation of Colin Farrell!
The other half: Benedict Cumberbatch saying pengwings
Now I so badly want to see Cunberbatch play like Freeze or perhaps Jeremiah Arkham just to hear him talk to Oz and say that
“So Mr Cobblepot. What inspired you to adopt the persona of Peng-wing?”
“Wot yous just ca’ me?”
LOL!
XD
Irish, Collin Farell playing James Gandolfini, doing an impression of Robert DeNiro... a cocktail that makes up the best Penguin ever? Sure lookin' like it.
Literally got goosebumps when Colin said "It's just the start for him"at 4:45
They can def do a sequel with him as the main villian plus a new villian unseen like Hugo Strange!
@@robd1329 they are actually giving him a show
@@loganf.07 a penguin series??
@@robd1329 yup
Colin having no social media!! He’s definitely ok in my book 👍
He must be so sick of answering the same question lol got to be a real pro to maintain sanity lol
I'm surprised that the question of gun control or violence is going to influence people. I guess the media's agenda is focused more on joe rogan and russia
@@lucabrasi6986 dude this is about a movie go away
@@lucabrasi6986 wtf are you on about?
Lol I could see it on jos face. Slapping his legs. He's like yep. Same question again. Yay
I love the enthusiasm of all the actors that took part in this movie! They all seem liked they really enjoyed there characters. Which will make there performances even better!
I always thought Colin was very underrated. I loved him in American Outlaw. That grin he had every time Jesse was getting ready to do something crazy was awesome. He's a damned fine actor.
He's amazing! Didn't even recognise him! What a performance!
I really enjoyed watching Collin Farrell’s role as Oz he killed it
You don't get why they hired Colin Farrell to look completely different until you see the interrogation scene.
The "COME AHNNNN!" when Gordon shows him the dead cop's rat-eaten face was priceless.
Almost as good as Schwarzenegger’s embodiment of Mr. Freeze.
😂😂😂
@I System I’m assuming you’re not a native English speaker and don’t understand sarcasm. I realize sarcasm doesn’t always transcend the written word, but in this case it seems fairly obvious. Have a great day!
😂😆😂
John speaking truth 🤯
Soooo excited for this film.🤘🤞
When Colin Farrell told me he didn't have any social media it made me like him even more. Social media is societies poison.
You know what else was a prison? The island of Manhattan!
You know what I am talking about though; you were there.
My favourite line will be: "Heyyy. Take it easy sweetheart." In that mob accent.
Stand out performance of the movie, Excellent portrayal of The Penguin 🐧
John Torturro: That helps you create your character. You can't do it in a vacuum in your room.
Heath Ledger:
Colin is very Irish and he’s such a good actor I frequently forget that.
One of my buddies who went with us to see the mo ie last night could not believe that was Colin Farrell… I literally had to pull up IMDB and show him that was Colin playing penguin…..I think Colin was the shining star as a villain in this movie.. Paul Dano was just pure insane scary to me…
Both these actors are great and will own these roles. Be great to finally see Turturro as Falcone and the bits ive seen of Penguin, wow, just wow.
I can’t Imagine Colin doing the penguin’s voice without the makeup
I didn’t even realize he was the penguin. Wow
The more I hear from Collin, the more I like him. 👍
This was a very nice interview!
Penguin was always a pushover but with Colin Farrell as Penguin, people would buy him being able to handle Batman. lol
This is unreal he doesn’t sound nothing or look anything like his character wow!
Fucking Bruges! Phenomenal actor right here.
I like how in these interviews Matt Reeves looks like the old school Gordon and Colin Farrell looks like Matt Reeves.
I miss seeing Colin Farrell star in action films. The recruit was awesome
Colin Farrel's gonna kill it as the Penguin 🐧
Just shows that practical effects have a solid purpose...I can't see though how he didn't go out and mess with ppl. I definately would've
He kind of did. Theres a story about him walking into a Starbucks while in character
“No judgement here”?? Ummm I’d hope not. Because a grown man doesn’t use social media and wants his privacy.
Colin in it as a villain is pretty much what convinced me itd be good. Loved his portrayal of bullseye
Yeah it's crazy how different he looks. Doesn't even sound like him either. Well done Collin and his make-up team!
He’s so unrecognizable I’m gonna forget he was in this! 😄
doesnt look anything like him but it looks so real, amazing.
Good for you Colin for not using anti-social media. :)
Two very underrated actors. Put some respect on Turturro and Farrell names.
I'm convinced that he was doing a De Niro impression as Penguin.
That scene in the car when he looks back over his shoulder is the only time I see Colin.
I honestly think Farrell channelled his inner Devito from Batman Returns. While both Penguins were very different, but both actors faded away into their characters and I love them for this. Very impressive.
I love it in the movie wear they leave Penquin with has hands and feet zip tied and he's shuffling along like an actual penquin!!
Im shocked how much more screen time carmine falcone had than penguin i wished there was more of Collin Farrell in this film great movie though
Colin Farrell is so unrecognizable it looks as though Matt Reeves went out and cast an unknown actor.
i am still unable to see him in the character, that transformation is incredible
Damn! I’m impressed- I bought into the gangster Penguin on the trailer. Amazed to hear Colin Farrell is the Penguin.
as much as I would love to see his terrified kid, good on him he will never put it out there. Great man👍👍
This actor was the best Grindelwald when he wasn't even playing Grindelwald. I love Farrell for that
Both brilliant actors. Great performances
both excellent actors but the penguin's costume was one of the best I've ever seen
Collins my favorite actor I think, I never think about those things but everything he’s done with A24 I love, he’s really found his niche with the darker, dystopian story driven films and 7 Psychopaths is my favorite movie ever. Seeing this on Sunday can’t wait
I didn't even recognise John Turturro as Carmine Falcone
Colin is a good actor and he will play the roll well 😅💪😳👍👌
When I saw the movie I thought to myself, “this guy they found for penguin is really good”. Had no idea it was Colin Farrell.
Colin Farrell was the one who played the antagonistic Bullseye on (2003) Daredevil with Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner, and the late Michael Clarke Duncan.
He was the highlight of that movie, in my opinion! I always thought he'd make a good Batman, personally.
Maybe it’s just me, but this Penguin seems like to be Al Capone inspired in therms of look and the gangster side of him.
When I first saw the trailer for this film a few months back I thought to myself "well they catch John Goodman as Oswald cobblepot"
“Take it easy, sweetheart.”
I wounder if Collins coming back for the sequel
I think I can respect this man 10x more just because he basically said fuck social media. I don’t get peoples thirst for celebrity’s personal life.
every time i saw falcone, i kept thinking frank zappa lol
0:09 "that is a transformation, like any transformation i've ever seen before" - 2022 is the official year where you mean the opposite when you speak
i dont particularly like the interviewer but she did okay. It was a good video. Thanks.
It felt like Colin Farrell was playing Bobby De Niro
I’m hungry dad did you hear me?
Colin: a
Everything single blogger: I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT WAS YOU
Colin tired of hearing that all day during the press event: :D
If heath ledger was alive for interviews, he would be asked the same questions. So it's part of being an actor.
Lmao I am still in shock. I didn’t know the Penguin was Colin Farrell the entire movie until I saw the credits. Lol amazing.
It’s funny he talked about the influence from the godfather, because I was thinking that two of the Characters literal had voice dialects exactly like they were characters from the godfather
I would love to hear Bono and Collin arguing about something dumb like Krispy Kream or Dunkin donuts.
2:25.. I love how we all know its true, yet still pretend its not.
colin was bullseye in afflect's daredevil. afflect became batman and now colin becomes penguin. jeniffer garner is next?
God I hope not
This guy may be the best character actor of all time
I'm more impressed by the batmobiles suspension
He doesn't have Twitter and Instagram.....Great Guy!!!!!!!
And when they left him duct tapped on ankles and wrists and left, as he was walking saying hey how am I going get out of here is where he had that penguin walk/waddle
Turturro is a legend
I like how John Turturro just casually drops that democracy is false and moves on lol
The guy who played Penguin on the show Gotham was pretty good.
Penguin!? I thought they were remaking Thinner. The costume design for this movie is sandbox level.
colin is an amazing actor
You Don't Mess With the Zohan
It actually looked like Robert de Niro in costume. Even the voice.
When I heard Colin Farrel was in THE BATMAN as the penguin I saw the trailers and thought "that fat guy isn't Colin farrel, maybe the penguin is a hidden character like an after credits scene with Colin farrell"
He’s great as The Penguin
I only knew it was him from his eyes lmao
