- Here's a video detailing the installation of a flow through centre console in a 2016 Ford F150 XL. The procedure will be the same for the 2015 through 2017 model years (13th generation).

do you happen to know what year/model/trim truck that has this center console will fit into a 2018 f150 XLT with 40/20/40 seats?
Where can i buy that center console?
Do you know if possible to change the column shifter to the center console shifter while doing the install for the center console?
Hi Joaquin, I'm not 100% sure. However, I suspect there would be a few issues with this. First off would be the wiring and possible control modules. You'd have to figure out how to get the appropriate wiring harness and where it connects. The 2nd issue I can see is that you'd have to figure our how to remove the column shifter and replace it with the appropriate trim piece. www.fordparts.com may help you figure out what pieces you need. You can also check the wiring diagrams at www.bbbind.com/tech_database.html
I am making the switch the other direction (jumpseat for console). How did you handle the wiring that unplugged from the media bin and plugged into the console? My console plug was 8 pin but the media bin requires a 4 pin for the USB and a 12v cig plug. Thanks!
In my case I purchased the harness that goes from the plug on the floor of the truck (passenger side of the steel bracket). I suspect you would need to do the same to go the other way. The USB and cigarette lighter near the dash actually clip into a dash trim piece you’ll need.
Buenas noches. Donde puedo comprar la consola central para u a f150 2018
Is there a way to make the ac vents connect on the center console so they work
It looks like you may be able to add the required ducting to make them work. I believe you'd have to replace the duct that comes of the heater box (18490A) and add 2 additional pieces of duct work (18C420C & 18C420B). Here's a link to one of the parts required showing a diagram of the ducting system: www.fordparts.com/Commerce/PartDetail.aspx?n=KViNVNRX2cghBOPskBvttA%3d%3d&id=418815870&m=2&search=true&year=2016&make=Ford&model=F-150
You'd have to work with your ford dealer to get the right parts depending on what options your truck had originally and configured for the new console.
Can you tell me where the main plug (Large one at the front) on the wiring harness plugs into under the dash. I have a 2016 F150 Fleet vehicle that I have also swapped the jump seat for a center console out of a 2015 Lariat. Thanks in advance
Unfortunately, I'm not sure about the connector one under the dash. The only thing i connected from under the dash was the USB connector.
The plug connected to the cigarette lighter outlets (the big black and grey plug) connects to a connector on the floor between the 2 seats on the passenger side of the bracket, in my truck it had a blank cover on it to protect the terminals.
Some of the Lariat consoles had additional features which you may not be able to use without adding additional control modules or inverters such as the console lighting or 120v outlets. In my case i had an extra plug that i didn't connect to anything that was for the lighting in the console.
So my truck is a 2016 XL doesn't even have a USB box at the bottom. It is just a AUX port. Do you know where I could find that box?
That's a tough one. I suspect your truck doesn't have Sync, hence no USB. This may be a problem as I'm not sure if your stereo will have a USB port. That'll be the first thing you'll need to check. I suspect it would be some form of USB port (standard, mini, or micro) somewhere on the stereo or faceplate. If you find one you'll need to confirm that your stereo will recognize it (might not be programmed). I would suggest finding a cable that will connect to it and testing it with a usb audio device (ie. iPod).
If you have a port and it works, then you'll need a cable (one end to match the stereo input, the other a standard female end) and the clip in plastic box.
Here's a link to a couple part #'s depending on how your truck is equipped:
www.fordparts.com/Commerce/CatalogResults.aspx?y=2016&m=Ford&mo=F-150&initSearch=1&keyword=usb#Search
Hope that helps!
Hey good vid but u think I can dremel original side vent pieces out or should I buy the pieces ? I read they where only $30 u said but I don’t want to wait for them to come in I wanna do it now
Hi Aldo, I guess you could dremel them. The console panels clip into the factory ones, you might end up with a bit of a rattle if you don't get a tight fit. I guess you could just leave them floating, but not sure that's great either. I would recommend waiting for the factory ones, but the original ones will be scrap anyway so you could try it.
I want to remove my ac vents to paint them, my question is do you have to remove the center stereo cover first in order to remove your side vents , or you can remove your ac vents without removing the center stero cover.
I believe you should be able to pull them out without removing the stereo, however the stereo comes out easily and will make it much easier. In addition, if you have the flow through console you'll need to remove it before the vents will come out.
Grorange Garage thanks man
Hello
Grorange Garage, thanks for posting the Video- I am doing a center console floor shifter conversion from my column shifter on my 2016 XLT crew cab with jump seat center console. Can you explain why you had to replace the dash trim panels?will mine not work? Also I bought a center console from a lariat and unless I am missing something I could swear It came with the wiring. Is a fact that I have to replace the wiring? and lastly the AC vent you removed from the console, will I need to do that? Thanks In advance..
Hi Will, the flow through Center console plugs into the side dash trim panels which is my they need to be swapped out to the ones that work with the flow through console. If it came with the wiring harness you shouldn’t need an additional harness. The column shifter swap is a new one for me, not really sure what it takes to make that one work. Regarding the vents, if you truck originally had the jump seat there are ducts below the floor leading under the front seats. If you don’t remove the ducts from the console I believe they interfere with the raised flood where the stock ducts are ran. Hope this helps and let us know how it goes!
I have a 2017 Ford F-250 pickup and wish to upgrade jumpseat to console . I have located a console out of 2017 f150 at a good price. Would you recommend purchasing or wait for one out of f250
Hi Doug, it looks like the 2017 and up F250’s use the same console as the 2015 - 2020 F150’s. You should be good. However, you may still want to check with Ford or a wrecker to be sure.
Thanks for posting this video! Can you explain to me how to get to the cup holders? I'm wanting to do some ambient lighting and need to get to the bottom of the cup holders.
Unfortunately, I believe you'd need to remove the entire console to access the bottom of the cupholders. It appears all the fasteners on the cup holder are put in from under the console. Here's an illustration from foreparts.com:
www.fordparts.com/Commerce/RenderIllustration.ashx?id=408762374&f=3&n=FL3Z1504567AB
I know this reply 3 years late, but trim piece on top pops off, 2- 7mm screws hold cup holder along with 6 push clips. You can have it off in 5 minutes
why do you need new bolts? wont the stock ones fit
Hi Hayden, the stock bolts for the jump seat are a different size than the flow through console mounting bolts.
whats the part numbers for the two side trim pieces?
Hi John, unfortunately it's tough for me part numbers as they are specific to your vehicle due to color and the various trim options. I'll give you a list with descriptions, but you'll have to work with your local ford dealer to get the right parts.
- trim pieces for either side of console (Instrument Panel Cover Flowthrough console, part number 04608B on fordparts.com
- Instrument panel trim bezels (Part number 04338 on fordparts.com). This one has many options depending on what options your truck has.
-wiring harness (14A318 on fordparts.com)
- M6x25mm bolts (HB1 on fordparts.com)
I have the same truck 2016 xl super cab ebony interior can you provide any part numbers?
Hi jon, unfortunately I didn't keep the invoice and don't have the exact part #'s. If you check the comments below I've listed the generic part numbers. With those, you should be able to figure out the exact #'s with your ford dealer.
Hi Grorange, I'm going to do this to my 18 xl single cab. I know I can use 15 to 17 consoles but are 18's the same as well? I'm also going leather so I need to know if console lids are the same for all models as they get leathered to? No single cab from 15 to 18 ever came with a console so i'm just going to wing it and hope the screw holes are at least in the floor. Wiring could be a challenge as well depending on what the donor truck has for options. Thanks, good video.
Hi Peter, 18’s should work as well (same model). I would also expect the fit and mounting to be the same for the leather ones also. Sounds like a fun project!
yes it's going to be a project for sure. Katzkin leather skins, stx grill, airdesign fender vents, 2/4 lowering kit when one becomes available, putco billet aluminum black grill and tailgate emblems and out with the 3rd seat and in with the console. great vid and presentation. I got mine from a wrecking yard. $295 candian for the console and wiring harness. I just have to get the few parts that u mentioned plus the cup holder inplace of the shifter.
Hello George, thank you for the video! Did or can you include Ford part numbers for the replacement dash parts?
Here's the info on the generic part #'s. You'll have to get the specific one for you truck (interior color, options, etc.):- trim pieces for either side of console (Instrument Panel Cover Flowthrough console, part number 04608B on fordparts.com
- Instrument panel trim bezels (Part number 04338 on fordparts.com). This one has many options depending on what options your truck has.
-wiring harness (14A318 on fordparts.com)
- M6x25mm bolts (HB1 on fordparts.com)
Grorange Garage thank you!
How thick is the inside wall of the console? Id like to bolt something on the inside, on the drivers side of the console. Your video seems like there would be enough space but hard to tell for sure. Any thoughts are appreciated
Hi Nathan, I don't recall exactly how thick it is, maybe 1/8". I suspect it would support 4 or 5 pounds if you use a couple 1/4" bolts with fender washers.
Grorange Garage awesome, thank you for the response. I expected it to be something like that. Thanks for saving me some trouble
Do you have any idea if i would run across any type of issues in a 2016 f150 single cab?
Hi Gerardo, I'm not 100% sure. It doesn't look like the regular cabs were offered with the flow through console as an option. This makes me think you may run into some issues.
yes I'm wondering if the bolt holes are there for the mounting brackets.
Where did you find that center console?
Bought it off ebay
How much you paid for Carter console? And do you have to get right color to go with your truck?
I paid $550 USD (includes shipping) for a used console off of ebay. Color is up to you, won't make any difference on the install or function.
Awesome video. I’m doing this to my single cab soon. I can’t wait. Do you have the part number for the harness by chance ?
Unfortunately, i can't give you the exact part numbers as it will depend on the color of your vehicle and the options you have on your vehicle. This should help you work with your dealer to find the right parts:
- trim pieces for either side of console (Instrument Panel Cover Flowthrough console, part number 04608B on fordparts.com
- Instrument panel trim bezels (Part number 04338 on fordparts.com). This one has many options depending on what options your truck has.
-wiring harness (14A318 on fordparts.com)
- M6x25mm bolts (HB1 on fordparts.com)
Did the Rear vents work?
No, the truck doesn't have the duct work to make the rear vents in the centre console work. They're just for show ;) The ones under the seats still work!
would this work for a 2015 supercrew cab
Yes, procedure will be the same for the 2015 super crew. The 2015 through 2017 are the same generation (13th). Parts should also be interchangeable.
Ok thanks for the info great vid
Will this fit a 04?
Don't think so, different model years.
Does your ac and power outlets work
Power outlets - yes, as long as you hookup the harness; AC - still works with the floor ducts, console ducts and outlets do not
Do you know if all 13th generation center consoles have the same shape/size compartment? Thank you
Hi Ridge,
They should all be the same shape/size. I put a 2015 console into a 2016 f150 in the video. You just need to watch for the console shifter. Per one of the previous comments you might be able to convert it to a non-shifter console.
did that console have a gear knob
No, this one was from a truck with the column shifter. However, I believe if you purchase one with the floor shifter in it you'd be able to remove it and install the tray. Based on the parts diagrams from fordparts.com it "should" work. Keep us posted if you give it a go.
How much were the panels for the a/c vents that you had to order ? Do you have the part number
I can't recall exactly, but I think the panels were about $30 each. Unfortunately, i can't give you the exact part numbers as it will depend on the color of your vehicle and the options you have on your vehicle. This might help:
- trim pieces for either side of console (Instrument Panel Cover Flowthrough console, part number 04608B on fordparts.com
- Instrument panel trim bezels (Part number 04338 on fordparts.com). This one has many options depending on what options your truck has.
-wiring harness (14A318 on fordparts.com)
- M6x25mm bolts (HB1 on fordparts.com)
Hi. Hop did you remove the old bench center seat?
Hi David, my truck didn't have a centre seal when i got it (fleet truck). That said, I believe their are 2 bolts at the base of the seat on either side to remove. Once those are removed it should come right out.
So I could buy a center console for my supercrew cab xl truck, im trying to figure out if I can get a center console instead of my third seat
Could i have this console installed and have the A/C vents in the back work too?
It could be done, but you’d need to reroute the ducting from under the seats. Not sure it’d be worth the cost.
Thank so much for the good news... that it can be done...
but i will have to disagree with you. Lol
To me, i think it will be worth the cost :)
What brand of console is this?
Hi Ernesto, it's a Ford console from a 2015 F150. Bought it on eBay.
So you did not purchase the part beneath the radio too? I’ve heard it’s not visible unless you’re looking for it.
No I didn’t buy it, you don’t notice it missing unless you reach for it. Didn’t know there was a part, just thought it was odd that it was open ;)
Grorange garage I have a xlt with column shift and the consoles I found on eBay has the floor shift should that matter? Can I use the console with the floor shift?
I believe it would fit. From the photo's on eBay it appears to be the same and the electrical connectors look the same. You'd have to remove the shift cable from the centre console. I suspect you'd also be able to remove the shifter assembly and replace it with the bin. I also noticed that it has the 120v power outlet, I'm not sure if that would work without adding some additional electrical components. Hope that helps!
Grorange Garage yeah ok thanks I didn't know if the shifter could be removed and were can I find a bin from the dealer?
I'm not 100% confident, but based on the parts diagram on www.fordparts.com and the fact that Ford would have minimized the # of components I think your chances are pretty good. Regarding the bin, I would look up the parts you need on www.fordparts.com then work with the parts guy at your dealership to find the right one.
Grorange Garage thanks
There so many comments and I didn't know if someone already asked or not. I have a 2016 f150 also and I've been thinking about putting a center console in.did you keep the original seat or do you have to get bucket seat
Sorry for the late response, yes kept the original seats.
@@GrorangeGarage better late than never thanks
Can you post a link to the wiring harness and the trim pieces and everything extra needed to complete the install?
Hi Josh, unfortunately it's tough for me to link parts as they are specific to your vehicle due to color and the various trim options.
Hope that helps!
Grorange Garage I want to remove the middle console attached to the seat and replace it like the one on this video on this video. I have a 2106 ford 150 eco boost. I don't want the seat in the middle. Is it possible
Grorange Garage .0:45s would you please tell me exactly what is the code of the wire. because i also bought your same console. but i dont have that wire. thank you very much.my car F150 XLT 2016z
I have a 2017 F-150 regular cab I wanna do this to it but can I do the one with the gear shifter in the middle and will the gear shifter work
Hi Robbie, can’t really help you with setting up a functional floor shifter. I imagine it can be done, but I’m not familiar with how. You could check fordparts.com to look at some parts schematics. You’ll probably need to research the wiring diagrams as well. I believe I posted a link in an older post to the wiring diagrams. Good luck!
What did you used to cover the floor shifter hole?
Hi RJ, in my case the console I bought did not have a floor shifter. If you do buy one with a floor shifter, I believe you should be able to purchase the parts from Ford to remove the floor shifter and replace it with another compartment.
RJ, I’m doing this swap myself & I have to remove the gear shifter & put in the trey in place of the gear shifter. Did you end up doing this?
The only part I have found is like $200 & I was hoping I could find it cheaper...
@@Rstroupe08 Yeah sort of sucks that Ford sells that piece FL3Z1504567DA for so much, the cheapest I've seen was $199 on Ebay. I got mine through a buddies body shop
for that price, other than the console it's the most expensive piece on the swap.
So what did you do about the heating/cooling venting?
Hi Chuck, I removed the vents from the console. To connect the vents requires significant work under the floor to reroute the ventilation.
It's an easy fix and has nothing to do with the ducts under the carpet, the vents on the back of console are for A/C only which already has ducts under each front seat.
take a look at out of line garage video for the best inclusive swap on RUclips.
What happens with the SYNC SD card slot?
Sorry for the late reply. I’m not really sure, my truck didn’t have the sync SD slot. Sorry about that.
Did your vents in the back work even though you took out that tubing for the heating system?
vents are for A/C only
is this possible on a 2011 single cab?
I can't say, I'm not that familiar with the 2011's. The process in this video is suitable for the 2015 to 2018 model years.
I don't have much experience with the previous generation of F150's. I'm sure it's possible, the procedure might differ a bit. Let us know how you make out.
where did you find black dash trim pieces ? i can’t find them for the life of me. if you could get me the part number for it i’d greatly appreciate it.
Bought them from my local Ford dealer. I don’t have the exact part #’s and they’ll vary with your interior colour and options. Was a bit of a pain as they kept wanting to look them up based on my serial #.... they actually ordered in the wrong ones the first time.
are those trim pieces black ? or the silver color ?
Ford calls them ebony (black).
Nice Job;)
I wanted to swap to console from the day I bought my truck but I'm too scared to do it myself lol
Thanks! It's not too bad, just a bit tricky to align the console when putting it back in.
Where can i get the panels for the a/c??
I bought them from my local Ford dealer. If you look at the comments below there’s some generic part numbers to help you. You’ll have to get the ones that match your interior colour and equipped options.
What did you use to replace the shifter??
Mine didn’t come with a shifter, but I believe you would be able to get the parts to swap it out with the tray from Ford. Checkout fordparts.com for parts diagrams.
Thanks, it was a good video!
I saved it for future reference
Is this a single cab truck ?
Hi Fetty, this was on a super crew. I suspect it would be similar on a single cab. Might want to check out both trucks at a dealer to see if they use the same consoles. You’d also need to remove a seat or 2 for access on a single cab.
Could it get any darker ?
Yeah, the lighting was pretty terrible. Not my best cameras work. Hope you still found it useful.
What is that console called?
Flow through console
Too bad the camera goes a little blurry but the video is very much appreciated!
Yeah, was a bit out of focus and a bit dark at times. Sorry about that. Hope you still find it useful.
Ok hello again I finally got my center console and it looks like I'm in the same situation as you the consoles from a 2015 lariat and I have a 2016 XLT fleet vehicle I just got it today from LKQ and the buttheads cut the wires instead of unclipping them so I have to buy some but I'm having a hard time finding it (part number FL3T-14B079-ME on the main harness). And I didn't know I have to change the trim on the side of the radio. Is there any way you can put on here where you got the parts if you remember from 5 years ago? Are you on Facebook when we can do this more private if you want or if it is easier?
Thanks Paul 😀
Hi Paul, I had gotten the parts from a Ford dealer. It took a bit to find a parts guy who would do more than “look it up based the vin” and ended up getting the wrong ones the first time anyway. Now that the trucks a bit older you might have good luck getting the parts from a wrecker.
Very tempted to do this to my regular cab. But it’s weird since the center console has features meant for the back seat lol.
It’s a nice upgrade! I don’t think you’d notice the vents and cup holders in the back.
Grorange Garage Did you make your air vents active in your console?
No, pretty tough to do. Would have needed to remodel the floor and replace a bunch of the stock vent system. With the jumpseat, the rear vents are under the floor and ran under the drivers and passenger seats.
Grorange Garage I’m going to look into doing it. The more I look at my middle seat the more I want to get rid of it lol
Good luck!
I couldn't see shit so I didn't watch the entire thing, but do the rear AC vents and the outlet work?
They do not, to make them work you’d have to redo the vent ducts under the floor.
I don't know why ford has started putting that cheap ass jump seat in their trucks. Dodge and Chevy are miles ahead of them in that department right now. The middle seat of a truck is supposed to be a highly functional center console that can moonlight as a seat for short trips. The ford jump seat is the exact opposite, a fully functional seat that barely passes as a usable center console.
Couldn't agree more!
Did you ever check a junkyard to see if they had the console? In my experience, people that sell stuff on E-Bay get the parts from junkyards and then sell them at ridiculous prices.
Junkyards would definitely be a good place to look. Should be getting some of the newer fords in by now.
I hate the center console in my truck, my arm always hits my drink.
I can’t see shit
