I bought this game in 2019, i have a few thousand hours and honestly i think its really hard to not get bored with it. I think im a creative person, and i love designing advanced stuff with lua and chips in general. Imo the worst thing about this game is fun/time played ratio, because its pretty bad. You need to put a lot of time to learn how to play it and to create something new to get a little fun from that creation. In my case i realised that even tho i love making super complicated creations, they are not good for me because making them takes more time than i'll afterward spend playing with it before i'll get bored. Also i cant stand that there are a few major flaws in game that were never fixed, like hyper steep shores that makes it really hard to get on islands from boat(in other places that beaches). They are also a reason why i gave up on building amphibious vehicles, because i would simply have to go all around an island to the beach just to get it on land. Another major issue is buggy physics, i cant even count how many times my vehicle was sent to space(not literally) because i hit a wall and it got bugged, and because of that i had to create another survival save because i had no vehicle and no money. From smaller issues i have, i wish there was smaller jump in transmissions than 6:5, maby something like sqrt(6:5). Also this game has really cool sound system, im talking about in game voice chat and radios, but why is there no way to do anything with this sound inside of chips the only node is i believe switchbox, there is nothing with editing volume, there is nothing with mixing sound. Imo there are so many issues with it that i cant name all of them here. I mean i can but nobody will read comment that long. And dont get me wrong, i like this game. I love how much freedom it gives to player with creating whatever you want. You can make fully autonomous vehicles if you want to. I think lua scripting in this game is amazing because you barelly have any limits. But i cant deny that it(game) has a lot of issues, and im just tired of them.

Context. The missions and tasks gives context to design. Its easy to build a vehicle that never does anything. The weak mission system, that the dev's made weaker with removing the original working mission editor, means you can quickly master the vanilla with a say $25,000 design. From after that its a sandbox builder with various bias that you may or may not go along with, like the 10 x 10 x 10 cm block size.

I like how now some of those creative games are appearing. We have sprocket for tanks, flyout for airplanes, stormworks for ships. The genre needs to expolde!
The storms are one of my favorite things in this game, it's really atmospheric and it makes the lights on the ship look really nice. And I like the dynamic waves that get larger the deeper the water goes and calm down when you get near land. It can be a really relaxing atmospheric game.

And I came into Stormworks with thousands of hours of experience in other vehicle building games and Lua programming experience under my belt, imagine if Stormworks was the first one you have played! It's an amazing game, your computer storage will be full from the millions of save files before you run out of new things to do in Stormworks. I haven't even started a proper career mode yet, I still don't think I have designed a proper search and rescue boat to start the game with! Career mode was destroyed then a light version put back in. There is a real lack of consistent vision to Storm Works. It is broad enough you may find some things to do but many early investors aren't pleased so what you have is a Surivovr Basis, those left playing the game current concepts as misdirected from the vision as they got.
one problem they should fix is the items being stuck in your inventory when you forget to put them back they are just in you hop bar and you cant even get rid if them.
I love this game but, God I don't have the brain power for it,then I see what people make and like nope I definitely don't fit in to playing it. Also wish the missions were more fleshed out to give me more purpose
the problem with these types of games is that you build all this stuff with no use for them. if you like building then, youd like this game, but if you like gameplay, you wouldn't. look how small the mission section is. that is the game play and you covered it all in about 30 seconds. the rest of the video is about building, which is all the game has. Same problem with space engineers, no survival, no gameplay, no point, just a big building simulator.
If you want to play the actual career mode, you're going to hit your head on your keyboard quite often as bugs, glitches, poor AI and badly implemented career mechanics constantly ruin your enoyment.

So i've been away from this game for over a year. Watching this video right now and I've realised how far out of date I am with this game. So I'll say... "Space?!?!?"
Survivor Basis in the community is a thing. The Early Access and early release buyers got screwed with a lot. Things like existing parts turned into dysfunctional was a COMMON problem with updates. Lack of focus on the vision too. Weapons was a laugh at the loss of concept of a rescue not kill people game. I used promote this to teachers but dont since then. Weapons and the fighting AI were never and still not very competent. It was never going to be. Ship armor for example and block healths aren't a thing. You punch a ship with a missile and nothing disappears. It was never and still isnt an average vehicle vs vehicle combat. There are other solutions out there that did it better. Space is even more of a lack of focus and not something they have a core system for. Remember the incompetence of the Space release where ALL the boats on the workshop sunk? They didnt test and by that play there game. It is now a wandering build but don't play "game"
I was beginning to think I "broke" the game with my creativity, my first custom build I had to scrap after getting physic warnings, decided to reinstall the game in December and it works again by far, must be a steam deck thing. Working on a new custom hull featuring the triple-screw configuration based on the titanic. Just a ridiculous project while getting familiar with how to play it efficiently. The complex nature of the game is what I like about the game. I've only been on the large custom boat base that's kind of an "isolated" island, where there's almost just ocean.
it was probably giving you physic warnings because the steam decks hardware isnt as good as a computer and stormworks is meant for a mid range or higher computer
I see what you mean, when I first purchased it, it was verified as playable on steam deck, I've got your point, high performance hardware components run it smoothly. As far as I can tell, it plays, with visual effects dialed down.

MP went fine so far, which is also nice, building stuff and then dong missions with friends.
I wanted to enjoy the game but there's just nothing to do, why on earth they haven't done anything with the career mode is beyond me it has so much potential
Honestly, save your money. This game is in such a poor state right now, and the devs have no plans to fix it anytime soon. If you want to build stuff, then sure, go for it. But don't expect them to work as you hope, because the devs will break it before it can be done.
I can save you 20 minutes.. It's awful. The tutorial is non existent. Finding answers is impossible because all of the answers are 5 years old and not relevant to the current build. Career is just a mess. The devs have ZERO clue how to optimize a game as this game wont take full advantage of your CPU and GPU. really the only reason this game is still active is becuz it's a 3d sinking simulator
Found the game out after an obsession with titanic, the algorithm provided
14:26 "it's something that you could play for a long period of time and not get bored of" This did not get emphasised enough!
I have over 200 hours of playtime in just the base game without any DLC's and I would consider myself a noob.
I am still learning so much stuff about the game every time I play, simply because of how detailed the engineering is in Stormworks.
Honestly, there is enough detail that you could make a full 4 year university course out of just learning stormworks (and I would take it because I love this game).
also shoutout to my red mechsosuit on the workshop at 14:38 and 15:12 :)
I have 3800 hours and can’t agree enough with this
you were able to make a mech that got on the front page on the workshop and youre saying your a noob?!
@@2dquix Yes, yes I would.
Designing that mech required a skillset that is quite distinct from the normal stormworks engineering. And they were mainly skills that I already had from highs cool mathematics and engineering subjects. So when building a mech, I'm not a noob, but for the rest of stormworks, I most certainly am a noob.
I love this review! Very informative and thorough
How did you get the RPM to update every 1 RPM? I've seen other digital displays for things like cars on the workshop but they still go by RPS 🤔
The displays on the ship at the end of the video look cool too... How did you make the things like the gradient for the throttle indicator and other bars for things like the weather indicators?
@@ZeldaACFan17 RPS seems to be the preferred unit in the game, but you can convert it to RPM by just multiplying it by 60 seconds/1minute. I make some of the displays, using LUA coding, but not the throttle gradient - those are by other users who I credit in my creation notes! :)
@seanprice7645 f? I have to hit the backspace to drop items.
I love Stormworks. And I am the 1.4K person to like this video!
:) Thanks for the comment!
Hope this comes to Gog some day.
I love this game but, God I don't have the brain power for it,then I see what people make and like nope I definitely don't fit in to playing it. Also wish the missions were more fleshed out to give me more purpose
With close to 1,400 hour in two years I love the game, I don't play career much but do build I lot.
Perfectly described
thanks kermit
the problem with these types of games is that you build all this stuff with no use for them. if you like building then, youd like this game, but if you like gameplay, you wouldn't. look how small the mission section is. that is the game play and you covered it all in about 30 seconds. the rest of the video is about building, which is all the game has. Same problem with space engineers, no survival, no gameplay, no point, just a big building simulator.
The game’s multiplayer is super fun tho
Super true!!! I played the game, and the career sucks, but building ships is fun
I still can't figure out why my jet engines on my ship slowly lose RPS over time. I have the engine rooms, pressurized and fuel pumps.
do the fuel tanks have an air inlet? Im not sure if this is a thing but maybe the fuel tank is becoming a vacuum as the fuel is drained
@@jofreddy8643 no they don't have a air inlet.
@@King.of.Battleshipsdid that fix the problem? (real fuel tanks have vents for this purpose too!)
Would I enjoy the game for just the rescue mechanics if I don't have enough time to learn how to make vehicles/vessels and just use workshop designs?
I personally played months with workshop designs before even building by own, there are a vast assortment of creations so you don't really get bored
TY :)
If you want to play the actual career mode, you're going to hit your head on your keyboard quite often as bugs, glitches, poor AI and badly implemented career mechanics constantly ruin your enoyment.
Fair enough! I think once you get a hang of the mechanics it can be okay, but I get your frustration as well!@@grit9938
@@454ss_gaming don't get me wrong, it's still one of my favorite games. I really hope 2024 brings some much needed love to the missions and rescue career.
Where can i find that ship in the thumbnail
Are large tanker ships currently dead?
I haven't been able to get the pumping of over 100,000 liters from the tank to work. The end just slows down so much that in real-time, it takes hours.
Has anyone found a solution to this?
air goes in fluid comes out.
Ok this game is even more complicated than space engineers, ill pass on this one, thanks for the detailed review
THIS GAME NEEDS LOVE EVERYONE LIKE THE VIDEO
Yeah needs love, from the DEVS
Gibt es Logik blocke und sensoren ode sowas wie Trailmakers
I remember back when the devs swore to never implement weapons, then announced them like 3 months later
I tried this game and I get lost ... I like building machines but here I didnt know how to make a car because I didnt know how to find things but worst older videos from few years where people actualy tried help new players are not relevent to this version.
I just didnt know what should I looking for, how to make it functional, and worst how to use creator whole. Its messy, there is need for tutorial for tutorial, somehow...
And tutorial will need be longer and have part with creating basic machine.
But probably I am just stupid. So I am sad because only game where I can made some machine is stupid scrape mechanic, which is in terrible condition.
how do you get that RPM with that temp? is it in a vid?
Love and hate the game so far. Have it for a few month now and sunk countless hours into creating stuff. Some stuff is weird and some controll are a bit more fiddly then they need to be but overall it is such a great game. MP went fine so far, which is also nice, building stuff and then dong missions with friends.
I wanted to enjoy the game but there's just nothing to do, why on earth they haven't done anything with the career mode is beyond me it has so much potential
only the multiplayer sucks up. diddnt work since release, and theres no fixes
Hey everybody! Happy new year
10:41 ... Your RPS you can actually... get to nan(ind)
Botato for YT gods
"Reviews" like these are just hurting everyone.
What was that thumbnail lol
Career mode is pretty weak. A fun sandbox. Career is all grind no reward and the forced fpv is lame. Overall 3/5 stars
First comment let's gooooooooo
Thanks for the support!
I dont heve the game bud i want it
Honestly, save your money. This game is in such a poor state right now, and the devs have no plans to fix it anytime soon. If you want to build stuff, then sure, go for it. But don't expect them to work as you hope, because the devs will break it before it can be done.
Ok i wane build what dusnt work
Stupid radar mechanics stop me from doing what I want to do in this game, and I only want to do few things, and all of them involve radars, so..shame.
iths 3 days in
Happy New Year! Yes, I make that clear in the first 30 seconds haha
Spawn a boat too big or with too many lights and it will literally slow your sim speed down even if you're running the best of the best PC. Don't waste your money on it get space engineers or something else instead.
Barely 2024 lol
Happy New Year! Yup!
