That tiny ocean liner is just... wow! Things really have changed so much. That light up station sign seems like the most difficult thing to interpret, and also Royal National Park station still existed back then. 12:36 that plain grey carriage looks like the one on display in Petersham. It looks so old!
The light up station sign is easy... simple technology! A light shines next to a station the train will call at. London is also much busier than it was in the 1990's.
Some recession, they had at least five buildings going up in the CBD that year. Arthur Phillip Tower and Governor Macquarie Tower being the most impressive.
Oml this was before the East Hills-Glenfield link, when Granville trains ran through to Campbelltown. Nowadays the EHGL carries all the Campbelltown trains while Granville trains go to Leppington. Also didn't know that Circular Quay had Tube-style signage as well at the time.
That indicator at 10:10 is very confusing. The train goes all to Redfern then Sydenham, but passengers change at Tempe (where the train doesn't stop) for Kingsgrove, Revesby and the stations between Ingleburn and Macarthur.
possibly when the trains were overhauled they were fitted with newer hi-tech safety systems which prevent trains from leaving stations as quickly as they used to.
After The Little Mermaid and before Beauty and the Beast in cinemas because Little Mermaid was in theatres in 1990 in Australia and the other one was 1992.
@T4799 I agree with you. This train would have actually gone to Macarthur directly, with no need to change anywhere. I think the idea would have been that the "Change at Tempe for" message would only apply if a light lit up in front. But then how would you know which stations after Tempe were serviced direct and which you'd need to change for? Also, you'd never change trains at Tempe - you would always change at Sydenham where every train in the day stopped.
@slugnbozo Or better yet, just keep waiting at Circular Quay where the train you'd need to catch for any stop between Tempe and Macarthur would originate from.
They were of a very very dark blue shade of door. It wasn't exactly black. They had that colour door's from when they were born to around 2009, 2010. The only reason they have yellow doors is because they didn't exactly age well in the late 90's; people treating them like utter shit, weathering etc. So CityRail decided to paint them yellow in the early 2000's. And now, we know the Tangara's, as well as the other sets as yellow door trains. :)
The Station PA System was better back then, because it was voiced by Mike Goldman's Father, then right now, it is announced with a womans voice, but it sounds like Ann Sanders of 7 News.

@T4799 The train indicator was filmed independently of the trains, so it probably shows a different train.

I love how fast the trains would leave after the doors closed, these days they are a *bit* too cautious

Old Aussie Ads This was the days before the Airport Link stations happened. That line changed forever when those stations opened.
