Loved the part where you gave us some straight up gameplay and your first impressions of the latest games releasing
And the fact that it's as usual, Jake Baldino
Today was only Jake, not Jake Baldino 😢
he gave us some pros and cons too.
..but you know how this goes by now
Thanks for still coming around.
The screenshot highlighted on the map part is really big for me. The most annoying things about some metroidvania's is finding a hidden thing but not able to reach it yet. The screenshot thing is the best alternative to basically writing down a backtrack guide for yourself
Honestly it could be implemented in bigger open world games too and things like Minecraft to have us always remember where things are as we explore.
It's also nice not having to look after the old screenshot on your console and try to remember where it was on the map
When I heard about this feature I hoped it would set a trend for every game hereafter. It’s such a handy, clever idea! I can see it being so universally useful in any game
@@AvaValComedy exactly my perspective, glad I'm not the only being overly hyped for a mechanic
Metroid Dread (especially) and Meteroid Prime Remaster have good ways of helping you with backtracking.
But I like this way of backtracking with the screenshots, too. That way you can decide yourself how much you want to mark and remember.
I was not that into this game and had no desire to purchase it, but after playing the demo I am in.
This happens so often for me, devs/publishers need to release more Demos!! It's the best advertising for me.
Broo why do you sound like an ad?
@@pete7354it does sound a bit like an ad but they have a point regardless. Some games have a live test you need to sign up for and might miss out on while others make it a pre-order bonus which is frustrating because the people who pre ordered are gonna play it anyway so why not make it a regular download for anyone to get instead. There are still regular non pre order demos but still
@@pete7354 **a completely normal person who's enthusiastic about a game they came around on**
you: "lol npc"
When I was a kid without any money, the only thing I could afford to play were the demos of games that I could download over a modem. I got plenty of enjoyment out of just playing the demo of each game but I know I missed out on a lot of games by not being able to play the whole thing. Disposable income is nice to have.
I get that it can be a risk for devs and whatnot, but in my recent memory of the past like 6ish years, every game with a free demo I've bought fairly quickly after launch.
I still tend to wait for reviews, but to me a demo screams "confidence" like 80% of the time. Will definitely be getting this one
I just started replaying Sands Of Time. Man, what an incredible game. I forget sometimes just how well-paced it is.
That game is still near and dear to me. I think one of the first games I beat on the gamecube
@@kingtumpus5046 I beat it twice, but could never quite get into Warrior Within, and never played the 3rd in the series that supposedly fixed a lot of WW issues. Tried to download it from Steam but could never get it to work.
I love that whole trilogy. My first one was Warrior Within but then I went back to play Sands and then the 3rd entry. I wish that HD trilogy was available outside the PS3.
I remember them all from the sands of time and coming home after school and throwing my bag aside forgetting about home work and smashing my way through all the fights and the puzzles and obstacles and loving every second of it. Especially the sound track to the two towers (I think it's called) with the gore and the epic scenes of running from that giant beast and getting ready for the inevitable battle with it at the end. Ah good times.
Yes but do you now work at McDonalds cause you forgot about your homework or did the family money or contacts save you
@@Insp.CountMortisWinshipKlawi played all the time on a pc as a kid. used to skip out on hw, assignments etc.
well... I'm a doctor now,not the quack kind, actual medical kind. i still play games and i also study..a lot.
it doesn't matter whether you study much in school at all. you only have to develop an interest in a subject and gain knowledge.
gaming is simply a mode of entertainment, just because you play games doesn't mean you end up doing nothing in life
@@rohithkumar8708 Chill dude it was a funny sarcastic remark poking fun at the at us gamers the way we are seen. We are all gamers on this page if you haven't noticed.
Actual medical kind? Oh so you mean you learned from a textbook that told you how to treat not cure.
I'm a detoxologist helping people ACTUALLY cure illnesses from cancer to psoriasis. Doesn't your field deem those diseases basically incurable...
Yes, yes it does because I suffered from terrible psoriasis for over 20 years and that fraud of a system did nothing to help. I am now cured, all by simply understanding how the the lymphatic system works unlike your field of practise that can't even cure bacon.
A surgeon, now thats a field I can respect. Quack kind... pfff you are the quack!
The Two Towers is Lord of the Rings, lol. There's a PoP game called Two Thrones but what you're describing sounds more like you mean Warrior Within. Godsmack soundtrack, running from the Dahaka. Great times and for me by far the best PoP game. That said, I am really looking forward to this new one as I love Metroidvanias too.
@@Insp.CountMortisWinshipKlawbait used to be believable
Honestly, I wish we could have more AAA platformers! This is one of my favorite genres to play. Especially if you combine it with some great story, environmental variety and awesome combat.
As one of the millions of Iranian gamers and game lovers, I am very happy that a game with Persian language and subtitles has come and I hope to see more games that support the Persian language.❤ thanks UBISOFT
Dude you absolutely just sold this game to me with the screenshot feature. I absolutely love this genre and one of my biggest annoyances is when I simply can't remember where an unreachable chest was that was hidden behind a certain mechanic and once I acquire the mechanic it takes me forever to find that place again. This screenshot feature sounds like a godsend.
The Lost Crown has reignited me to replay the 3d prince of persia games...Honestly, if you are fan of the metroidvania genre, Prince of Persia The Lost Crown is easily a must buy..
As a complementary information about Immortal : The immortals was the royal army of Persian empire during the Achaemenid dynasty. they were one of the rare permanent corps of that era and always consist of exactly 10000 heavy infantry. Lots of stories are about them, the shared core is about an army of elite warriors who conquered almost all of their known world
Okay
bro literally persian dubbs and subbs made my mind go boom ,....i was sooo exited when i heard its gonna include persian dubbs and subbs...as a persian (Iranian) teenager who loves gaming a lot ...it made me cry:)))))🔥🔥🔥❤😭 plz Dont hate it ...if it wasnt your taste🙏🙏 ...its a major step for us :)❤
I know this comment is late but I really had to say, I love playing games in other languages. Listening to a language I don't understand (with english subtitles) is such a surreal experience for me. Listening to the sound of language can be so beautiful and poetic - I wish more games would do this!
One day, the player character will look Persian.
The demo made me buy this game . I don’t understand why demos aren’t really a thing anymore . Developers aren’t confident in their games anymore
I once read that someone concluded that games with demos sell less because most people just wants to try and play a little then never touch it again and the demo could just scratch that itch
I wished they continued the story of Prince and Persia 2008, sure it was more puzzle and terrain focused than combat but I liked that and the story. Wished they made a sequel to conclude that story.
This is so much better than expected. I was sold when I watched Matty's review on retro rebound.
My friend loaned this to me - wow, it’s really fantastic, deserves more love. I’m a huge metroidvania and Souls fan, this is a terrific blend of those, plus super fun platform challenges that remind me of the original PoP games way back in the day. Highly recommend it.
I hate how many people instantly discount a game because its a different genre. The comments & the like/dislike ratio on the trailer for this game is insane. Alll dogging on the 2d camera.
Same thing happened with midnight suns becusse it was a card-turnbased game instead of another ultimate alliance or marvels avengers game.
Everybody screams "we want something different" and then complains when they get something different it's mind boggling. I was for once excited for an Ubisoft title because it looked like the developers had more freedom than in other games I don't wanna play Far Cry 8.
As one of the biggest fans of this game, I have to agree that the story starts strong but then drops the ball pretty hard. Despite that, every other aspect of the game is so good that it makes up for it. The visuals, the extremely smooth combat mechanics, the voice acting, the authentic music and mythology, etc.
I love all the Prince of Persia games. Sands of Time was just magical and I still have hopes for that Remake. The interaction between Farah and the Prince was something else. Amazing. I mean, the fact that I still have her name right at the top of my head all these years later speaks for itself. Talk about memorable characters in video games! I also really like the reboot with the cell shading look. They definitely tried new things back then.
With Assassin's Creed Mirage, Avatar Frontiers of Pandora and now THIS, I think Ubisoft finally is doing it right after a long time🔥
Ubisoft “what is old is new again”
AC Odyssey, Far Cry New Dawn, Far Cry 5, Riders Republic, Crew Motorfest, Immortals Fenix Rising, NONE of these I would consider a 'long time' ago. And the only reason I didn't include Watch Dogs Legion is because I haven't played it, but the people I know who have enjoyed it
Mirage sucked to me lol
Gotta say, avatar is pretty whack
Avatar already on sale for like 30% off 😂
I remember playing the old prince of percia games on my phone with a keypad. Those games were less than 200kb in size (Yes! KB) and I had hours of fun playing them. This gameplay brings back memories. Definitely going to buy it.
Tbh Jake’s praise here is tame compared to most other critics. The consensus seems to be this is a banger, and I’m just so proud for the Rayman Legends team
My wife and I loved the demo. It felt like the ori games for the platforming sections and the combat was very fluid.

Well, just came back to say
I never liked metroidvanias
Side scroll games and so on
But always was curious about them
Tried different ones
Ori
Hollow knight
Blasphemous
Nothing really stuck with me
But this one..
Is just awesome!
Love it
And hope it is for real - that guys at Ubisoft needed a bit of a creative game after being stuck with failed big projects
So they made like a fan favour but for devs - awesome
Even though studio - is no more
But from what I’ve heard they are just relocated to another big project - hope that’s true
Cos they made a banger job
Even I fell in love with it!
I’m unbelievably amped for this. My first Prince of Persia game but not my first Metroidvania. Just played the demo and it feels so good.
dang, you should definitely try the other ones, this one is really a "modernized" Warrior Within and it's great. Even the old ones still play pretty good (graphic-wise they're atrocious lol, PS2 era)
@@jier9904hopefully this kicks off a new love for their series! I’ve heard so much about the Sands of Time it sounds like a must play. I’ll check out Warriors as well
Play Hollow Knight
Does the game have Farsi language?
Should’ve played WW first
I’m not a big fan of the Metroidvania genre but there is something with this one that really draws me in. Played the demo as well and I just want to play more, both the platforming and the combat just feels so good. Going with the deluxe edition so I can start playing Monday already, amazing start of 2024
Not all metroidvanias are the same. There is two main styles. One is the shooter style and one is the melee style. I like booth but not everyone will.
"Broken" capture card but still got great quality gameplay of 'Prince of Persia' for a "Before You Buy".....the good, the bad......and people wonder why Gameranx is the best video games channel on RUclips......capture great gameplay after the capture card breaks and give a honest, no bias review (even when you're bias).....Gameranx is the best!! Thanks for this! I truly have been hoping for a 'Before You Buy' on this, because I was unsure.....keep kicking ass Gameranx
As a persian, I am very hyped for this game, I hope it will be good and the next versions will support the Persian language as well.
How you feel about people complaining about the character being dark skinned, as if they're aren't dark skinned persons

Prince, but not a prince, of Persia, but not quite. I absolutely love metroidvanias, and this looks really fun, but I will not buy it until some huge discounts just because Ubisoft choose to include this game in Prince of Persia series for absolutely no reason, except money. It’s absolutely obvious, that at start it was new IP, but then some bosses saw the game and said “Hey, doesn’t it look smth like one of the game we made many years ago? Let’s make it a sequel! And who cares that neither plot, nor gameplay is alike beloved games?” I, I care. Be honest with your clients
I love whenever the notification says you guys uploaded it a video
thanks!
You lost me at "You're not the Prince"
That's like playing God of War as someone who isn't Kratos, or playing Uncharted as someone who isn't Nathan Drake
I mean… play the game and you get it.
Spoiler because you haven’t played it - It’s heavily implied that Sargon is actually the prince and was swapped as a child.
It’s also about him building into becoming the prince. It’s a good game.
Looks cool, would love a remake of the original with todays technology because the first one was incredible.
Do you... not know about the remake which may or may not be in development limbo? They've talked about it multiple times on this channel
They are/were trying to make a remake for the first one but uh... it was not received well.

I pre-ordered this last week at gamestop. I've never played a prince of persia game before so I'm really looking forward to playing this
Great video Jake. I think the significance of this game for Iranians is that for once it has the Persian/Farsi language and subtitles embedded within it. For once Persians can play it in their own language!
I'm a huge PoP fan, I enjoyed SoT but Warrior within is where it really hooked with me. That and two thrones, I must of beaten 50 times over. And the second I saw this game announced, I was all for it. I played the demo, and I can tell it's gonna take me a minute to get used to the combat, but I think I'm gonna really enjoy it.
So what you're saying is, this game is on warrior within level? Lol
Warrior Within is the goat POP game

@@etceterax144 oh no, these are two very different games. I was just saying WW is what made me fall in love with the PoP franchise.

People love to knock Ubisoft, but they control some of my favorite IP’s. I’m hoping the fact that they’ve put out several solid to great games recently (Motorfest, AC Mirage, Avatar, Prince of Persia) is somehow an indicator of more to come. That said, I’ll be astonished if they actually land Skull and Bones.
I'm an old school gamer (born in 1980 and started on the atari 2600), and I absolutely loved the original games in the PoP series! I will say that Sands of Time is probably my favorite, though.
I played the demo (PS5), and now I can't wait for the release! I was skeptical at first (especially with the development issues), but with my limited playtime and your review (as well as another youtube channel) I'm truly sold at this point.
Similar here :)
Just in case you were not aware, you can play thru the OG PoP on a browser (just google "princejs"), works on anything. Was playing it a bit last few nights in bed on an ipad. Kinda wild that it needed a big boxy PC decades ago and now a watch can run it lol
I am 43 too . Coming from NES, Master system era , the 8 bit era.
1979, started on Atari 2600 as well! Still gaming!😊
It could easily have been a game with good old prince of Persia on his way to rescue the prince instead.
Of course he'd be a king by now but the prince he rescues would be his own son so the name would stand 'Prince of Persia'. Maybe add sub title 'bloodlines' with it. Villain could've been the prince that the dahaka gulped up in ww iykyk. The game could've the same two thrones style mixed with DMC V style gameplay. I think it could've work.
Yeah i get it, but it's still a cool game. Or better yet, they could make the plot be about the prince saving his past self from being killed by another dude who also has the ability to control time
Sands of time is my favorite one. This one I’m super excited about because I loved playing games like this growing up. Like the old castlevania games. I love seeing these type of games made modern like Nintendo did with Metroid dread.
Big up the sands of time crew. Pop my oldest deepest gaming series love!
This is a throwback to the original Prince of Persia PC games too.
Ghost n ghoul old game school
Love that they went back to the begging with 2d platformer aproach, like I was introduced to this franchise, back in the days. Look forward to when it will be launched on steam so I can play it.
Jake.. we all know you only do a before you buy when the game is either really good, or really boring, so which is it here? 0:11
I don't want POP to be something else I miss the good old 3d POP this one can be a spin off.
I didn’t hear people bitching when the 3D POP was way different from the 2D game from the 80s
Why so agressive?
Prince Of Persia x Metroidvania = Sign Me Up.
Prince of persia is the peak example of something that hits my nostalgia really hard. This totally did not. Though it is a really good game it's not what i wanna see from the prince of persia IP. They could've named this literally anything and it looks almost too similar to that fenyx game they released. Almost as if that IP flopped and they turned it into this. It has connections to PoP 2008 because the little girl keeps humming it's theme tho which was a really nice touch i see literally zero people talk about.
*Use me as an Idk anything about this game but I watch Gameranx button*
I’m loving this game so much right now ! If you like any metroidvania or prince of Persia game, go ahead and get this now. I got it on sale for $29.99 for the switch and it’s a bargain. Honestly it’s my game of the year so far!
Prince of Persia PS2 trilogy is still the best.
This game is soooo underrated!!
It is truly an awesome game.
I’m an original prince of Persia fan, I really hope this one at least somewhat satisfies my hunger for the sands of time remake!
we think it will
not a big fan of metroidvania games, but i might just check this one out! Honestly, still waiting on the Prince of persia remake/remaster. they got a lot of the original team back on it last year and hopefully theyre able to do it justice!
I'm also skeptical about this game when it was first announced, but i remember that Ubisoft also made Rayman Origins and Legends which i loves, and with your review, you make me really want to play it now.
this was made by the same ubisoft studio that made the rayman games
Interesting enough, doesn't look like they are using UbiArt, the engine from Rayman, but jnstead Unity. I wonder why, because it does look
exactly the same concepts there!!
How does it compare to the Blasphemous 2 & Metroid: Dread games?
For me, that’s kind of the gold standard in modern Metroidvanias. Obviously, one of them has its _own name_ in the genre moniker itself. Lol! But, Blasphemous & its sequel are absolute platinum-level masterpieces. Perfect blend of Metroid, CastleVania, & a Soulslike.
To me, this looks to have the quality. I’ve been pretty excited, ever since I saw it was coming out; & I’ve never played a single Prince of Persia game. I don’t know. When I was younger & they were new (I was 15, but the time I bought a PSX…and it was brand new - out only 8 months, when I bought it. So, not like I waited forever. Lol! I was a Freshman in college, for PS2’s release; & I was the only person I knew, out of all my friends, that bought a Dreamcast my Senior Year of HS. Anyway…), they just didn’t interest me. They didn’t fully catch my attention. They might NOW. But, who knows?
But, lately..? I’ve just been getting into the older side scroll & “Metroidvania” fan. The nostalgia, with something NEW - and the discovery & wonderment, these art teams & directors are able to create, is amazing to me. I love seeing the creativity, in an “Okay! Let’s see how they handle this one!” kind of way.
As a professional, lifelong artist, I am absolutely love it. The games are just as extensive as any open-world game these days, as well. The RPG elements & such.
So, anyway…just back to my main point …or….question I guess..? Inquiry. We will go with that.
So, back to my initial inquiry: where does it stand when put against, or how does it compare to the 2 Blasphemous games & Metroid: Dread? I’m seeing good things. I just hope the “RPG Elements”, as we call them these days, are there & extensive enough to be interesting.
I want Ubi to hit on this one I’m interested in diving into the new direction, sounds fun with room to expand
Agree
yeah im buying because of that
Sands of time is an all time classic. Only other one I've played was the 2008 reboot and that one also holds a special place in my gaming memories, beautiful game with some amazing environments to traverse through.
The Warrior Within is and will always be my most favorite Prince Of Persia game ever. It has so many amazing combat mechanics, the story is SO AWESOME and they really made the Prince one hardcore warrior in that one as well too!! Really loved this Before You Buy here as well too though guys, awesome job as always!! Definitely will be keeping an eye out for this one!!
they need to bring a Sand of Times style of Prince of Persia with current modern graphics and movement
Best game of the year so far. Fantastic combat system and bosses, incredible level design and great puzzles.

Had it on Amiga too! It’s cool they put it as an Easter egg on Sands of Time and remade on ps3.. I’m gonna skip the demo and wait for my preorder tho.. Saving for my vacation first week of Feb
The default Killmonger hairstyle for characters across like 25 different games from different game developers really show the lack of effort in developing games.
I don't usually comment on these, but I do want to say thank you. Other channels are okay, but I tend to agree with your tastes and you've never lead me wrong before. Also, actually showing gameplay is nice too.
I was gonna try this just out of plain nostalgia. But the combat actually looks pretty good.
Is not a latest game, but F.I.S.T Forged in Shadow Torch is a sleeper metroidvania, 2.9D sidescrolling rpg platformer ..9/10 on steam .. its available on Xbox GamePass, but its only 29.99 retail, but can usually be found on sale .. i think it deserves a mention

Ah yes the people this game was made for non POP fans 🤦🏻♂️
So making a game to get people like me possibly interested in the pop series is a bad thing??? Or are you upset that other people instead of clowns like you might actually like and enjoy a different take on a rather lame series ??
I still hope to see proper Dead Space style remakes of PoP Sands of Time trilogy & Splinter Cell series
I grew up with PoP on the Amiga and I just played the demo, I can't believe ubisoft finally made a good game.
This came as a huge surprise for me. I expected this huge open world and we got this wonderful tight game.
It’s probably because it’s made by the same team behind the Rayman franchise. That team always makes bangers
After experiencing the heart-pounding stealth and escape portions of Metroid Dread, a well as the excellent combat and platforming of The Lost Crown, I think that a metroidvania entry in the Assassin's Creed franchise would be an excellent next step. It was clear to see the influence that Dread had on The Lost Crown. I would love to see those innovations and inspirations evolved even further. I'm currently midway through TLC, and it continues to simultaneously challenge, frustrate, and reward. (I've only found one platforming puzzle so far that is truly out of reach - but plan to try it on an easier setting soon, lol.)

This game doesnt look like Prince of Persia. Its like a game with a Jamaican hero fighting Japanese warlords.

No, they were not.
I’m so glad you guys liked it. Cuz I did this backwards. Seent it on the shelf. And said I’ll get it. Even tho I didn’t even know they were making a new one. Then I tried to look for a review and just bought it. So looking forward to jumping in probably once I’m done Jedi: Survivor.
Just finished playing the demo. Even from that small sample size (it's actually a decent sized chunk for a demo) I can tell I will love this game.
At first, I was put off by the price, £49.99 for a 2.5D side scrolling platform game, it seemed excessive to me, but I enjoyed it that much that I may actually get this one right away instead of waiting for it to hit a sale.
Uplay sales are kinda insane so that's why games are a bit inflated on the price i think.
I've bought games with a pay 2 get 3 offer + a 75% off and another 10% with coins on the final price.
There's a ton of good metroid you could get for a fraction of the price like blasphemous , ori , hollow knight or bloodstained. For platformers even rayman legends from ubi has insane value for the price.
But ye if i had the money i'd get this one too.
What the HELL does being side scrolling have to do with price? Did you have a stroke? Fall out of bed onto your head this morning? STYLE has NOTHING to do with VALUE. People like you are infuriating to developers and people who have a clue
I still would've preferred a game in the style of the 3D PoP trilogy, nothing plays like those games. Even if this game is great (which it seems to be), it's just another Metroidvania in a sea of Metroidvanias.
.... what you are describing is basically just AC right?
@@BoomerForever Assassin's Creed plays nothing like Prince of Persia. Assassin's Creed platforming practically feels magnetized and their is no real complexity or difficulty in it. Not to mention those games are open world and not linear or semi linear level based games like PoP.
@@NinjaFaceGames there was no complexity to the POP games ether. and yes the assisians creed games, especially the beginning one where similar, or tomb raider, or uncharted, or dishonoured, or darksiders, even god of war or star wars jedi survivor!
Always loved the franchise. Glad tp hear this one is a good one.
The screenshot feature is SOOOO convenient. I hope Hollow Knight Silksong has this, too.
Thank you for another great video, Jake and gameranx crew!
Why does someone from Persia have dread locks?
Because he fucking can
@@vintagemetal He looks african and half the names in the game are misspelled Persian names.... "Fng can" my azz!!! this is straight up them frenchie fk's fault for being ignorant
As an Iranian, I gotta say, this dude looks nothing like us
Just as Kratos doesn't look Greek
@@amumisborn Kratos looks plenty greek, he's so pale because the ashes of his wife and daughter are bound to his skin.
Prince of Persia ... but without Persian people haha
They got the Netflix treatment.
yup🌚
So…. every Prince of Persia game?
No, only this one and one other.
@@rokaspleckaitis8924 Isn’t the Prince a white guy in most games?
I wanted to play this game. I saw Ubisoft is the Developer. I decided to see if steam supports it. It doesn't. I'll have to download Uplay to play it I guess. So Piracy is less of a hassle. Kudos to Ubisoft making me not wanting to back up good titles.
50 bucks for a non-Prince of Persia game? No thanks!
Thanks for the video though
How well do you know Iranian civilization to play this game?
50 bucks for the best Prince of Persia game*
So happy PoP is back. I look forward to a Witcher-Like or Dark Souls like PoP with a dark theme like Warrior Within. It could be great multi-verse idea for Ubisoft to connect the Assassins world to PoP as they are both from same genre and same location, Persia.
...complete boycott from me. I grew up with Sands of time, this is side scrolling trash
Being a big fan of the prince of persia IP and having seen some gameplay of this months back at an expo I was really looking forward to it.
Its looking great, though a huge turnoff that it doesn't work on a steamdeck due to Ubisofts launcher...
Ubisoft, pls fix
Prince of Persia ... but without a Persian as main character. 👀
Also, the Immortal Heroes being everything but Persians 🤦♂
Isn’t the Prince just a white guy in the other games?
No.
Man~~It's been a long time since last PoP title, I'm coming back for this definitely!
Nice.
give us a gat dang game like prince of persia warrior within. Dark, gritty, gory, awesomeness.
