Hello, how are you? I am a regular viewer of your RUclips channel. I came here to say that- "I appreciate how well-researched and insightful your content is!" Good Luck
I think my favourite gaming experience this year was playing Dune: War for Arrakis with my husband. It was just such an epic experience and so much fun! Yes, it took awhile to set up and learn, but I think the effort was worth it. 😊
QotW: There was no single experience I can think of, but broadly speaking it was an awesome year for discovering new cooperative games with my wife. Far too many to listt hem all, but our favorite new-to-us cooperative games this year were (in order we played them): Dorfromantik, Unsettled, Daybreak, Legendary Encounters: The Matrix, Lord of the Rings The Card Game, and Keep the Heroes Out.
QotW: best gaming experience of 2024 was getting to play test a game. Providing feedback that the publisher incorporated added some extra fulfillment to the experience
My favorite moment this year happened at GenCon. I decided to pitch a couple game ideas I had to a publisher (I've never designed a game before). To my surprise, they immediately said "we want that game" for one of my ideas. Within a few weeks, I had a contract & became a signed game designer (stay tuned for more information as I'm able to share it).
Haha I might have been one of those taking the luxury of the second week! That'll teach me. Haha #2 - I love obsession, it is my favourite game, don't ask me why it just is but I think you might have wanted to display it to the camera horizontally!! [clunk!]
Haha it took me a moment to figure out that last comment... :) LUCKILY I have 3D printed inserts I made inside those two purple boxes and super-neatly (and TIGHTLY) hold all my tiles, cards, tokens, etc. I did find out that Dan is releasing a brand new, completely re-done rulebook next year!
QotW: mine was bittersweet. My best friend of over 40 years and his wife (and my great friend) of 30 years drove over an hour to the house for a day of gaming. She had been diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer about 5 months previous. The outlook was somewhere between 12 and 18 months, with the average being 14-16. I taught them (and their adult son) Return to Dark Tower over the course of the afternoon. Reveled in the companionship and nostalgia of a game we had played (although quite different) when we were 7th graders. I got to hang out with my dear friends for 6-7 hours doing what I love. 4 weeks later she passed. I'm so thankful for that last "game day" with her (even though we didn't know it at the time. There never really is enough time, is there?) Ill cherish that memory forever.
Have you played the cooperative mode from the Obsession Characters expansion? Have only seen dribs and drabs of reports on how it is, but sounds very positive.
I could've sworn I replied to this - I have not yet, honestly it took so long to get into the regular game that I haven't dared to revisit all those rulebooks. I chatted with Dan at PAX Unplugged and he said a fully revised rulebook, organized and indexed will come out in 2025 that should make it easier to get into - looking forward to that!
Is PAX more like GenCon in that it’s mostly for buying games, or is it more like dice tower east where it’s more about playing games? I live near Pittsburgh and have been interested to go.
@ryancombs2722 PAX is probably 8% of GenCon - there are demo spaces, gaming space, and an expo hall, but all of it is just smaller than GenCon. Last year the gaming area was packed like I'd never seen - a little nervous about this year, but I usually go and grab a few games, and I'm going to try to get some play time in this year!
QOTW - quick story? Nah not me. I can only write novels, not short stories. Seriously will give it a go... fave 2024 experience happened two nights ago - finally bought Chtulu death may die. Opened it and played it the first night (with adult step son staying for a week). There is history first - two years ago we played D&D castle ravenloft and I played a wizard rolled for monsters against him (paladin) always smacking him, rolled sh&t for myself. He died as we got to the vault for the treasure but killed boss monster, so I literally walked out with the treasure! Fast foward two nights ago.... Played CDMD and picked Chtulhu as boss. Both our investigators were going insane but we summonsed the boss early. I played the kid with psychotic sanity curse/ability (so lots of tantrums and brat comments during the game). I powered up to hit Chtulhu through the wall. Both investigators almost insane (the end of turn step would have driven both of us insane and Chtuhlu takes over the world). He smacks the big squid for 2 and dies in return attack. Leaves me with 10 hits from 15 dice three rolls, can't get an insanity. Low and behold I roll 10 hits and blanks and dismember the squid on the spot. It was just surreal and you can imagine the bellows of victory in the room. Of course my step son reminded me he died, I didn't care I (or I should say the kid) saved the world!
I should say that is my favourite experience this year, had some good times but a game like this just stands out as it is memorable. I travel to a mate's a couple of hundred kms away every few months and we game all weekend and I am not sure how I drive home my brain is jelly, they are great but a moment in a game like the other night trumps them.

What a phenomenal story - glad you got to have that moment, definitely. Life indeed is too short, for all of us and all we hold dear.

QotW: going to Origins for the first time and playing games with my friends that came in from Michigan and Ohio.

aw, no Dad jokes about Obsession? no asking for mustard? Do you still have the hat?
@cr-pol Of course I still have the hat!! 🤣 I've kept all my "props" - never know when you'll need them again!
