    The real rarity of this performance is Ben playing his bass above his knees and with a PICK.

    Chris is in God mode here. How is it even humanly possible to hit those high notes that perfectly, that effortlessly, live??

    Good Lord in Heaven. Could you even IMAGINE being in this audience & not having any idea what band you were about to watch AND THEN seeing THIS!? Holy Shit. He was melting faces here. Rest easy Chris.

    I've seen almost every live version of every soundgarden song ever. And this is by far the best. I can't even comprehend what I just heard. I don't think my ears are evolved enough to process this sound and turn it into noise I can understand. This is like an advanced alien trying to teach me their mathematics; I know it's good, but my limited human brain can't fully appreciate just how good it is.

    Whether he could sing at all this at all today doesn't matter, point is he could here. I actually like Cornell's recent more normal vocal range stuff very much, that's his real voice for keeps. Guy is so chill tho, hardly moves!!

    The cameraman did a good job on this performance too. I like how the focus is on Kim for the first verse, before irresistably moving to Cornell in the chorus. I've seen many performances from this time filmed by professional crews, with Chris holding a guitar, and it's as if Kim wasn't even in the band. I've gotta say as well; Kim was photogenic at this time. Chris Cornell was obviously a very handsome frontman, but Kim was a beast with all that hair. Having an Indian guy, and at one time a Japanese guy, in the band gave them a look as unique as their music.

  • @originalmusician1098
    @originalmusician1098 3 года назад +6

    I remember being there.. Cornell hit every note effortlessly, as it was only their 4th show that year. A year later, at Lollapalooza, after heavy touring, he was unable to sing the high parts cleanly. The rigors of touring are hell on the voice.
    Ben Shepard was converting over to bass here, but was really a guitar player. Hence, the high slung bass and the pick.

    I have never, EVER, in my life span of 18 years, heard any1 sing as good, or even as high as Chris Cornell. He is a GOD to me, Wen he dies, they need to take his vocal chordes out & put it in the ROck N Roll HOF

    The guy was a force of nature. this performance is ridiculous. Ive been to a lot of shows in my day, and I've never heard anyone hit such high notes with full voice like that. That's the difference with Cornell...when he goes that high, he's still doing it with POWER...99.9999% of other singers rely on falsetto or head voice to get up there, and the vast majority still can't do it. He's not "screaming"..he's hitting insane notes. One of a kind. Eddie Vedder? Layne Staley? Stop

    • @MagnumMuscle1000

      It is head voice. Very full sounding, but definitely head voice. A compressor and EQ does wonders to make head voice sound godly.

    sorry man but "he can't hit those notes anymore and anyone who says he can, it's just wishful thinking" is just total bullsh*t. saw him twice two months ago, one solo gig (Songbook Tour) and one Soundgarden gig (Hyde Park, London) and he hit those high notes. 'Beyond The Wheel' is my favourite SG song and when they played it I was blown away, exactly because he IS still able to hit those high notes.

    @jgraham97mc Ten itself was actually a very political album. It's just harder to tell then with some of Pearl Jam's newer stuff. I feel like none of their new albums can come close to be as good as Ten though.

    @Radz117 I'm 49. I'm grown. I have a doctoral degree. I don't have to eat my freakin' lima beans anymore, I don't have to cultivate a taste for port or scotch to fit in, and I've learned to not take myself or life too seriously. Mayhaps you should grow up your own self...

  • @thedukeofrosco
    @thedukeofrosco 14 лет назад

    @Radz117 Do you not think he can be cheesy? Some of his more commercial solo stuff is super cheesy. As are a ton of posed photos with 'blue steel pouts'. He is a model-esque vocalist mixing up rock and roll with commercial projects. Good for him make the money I say. But it's going to get cheesy along the way. Why ask about the Led Zep comment when you already know the influence? None of this is ment with any malice. like I said, I'm a massive fan and have been following them for a long ol time.

  • @mrnikko419

    @barker888 Technically Chris is a better singer because his range is about four times bigger then Layne's or Eddie's. This isn't to say Layne and Eddie are bad singers though. They're both amazing and I fucking love their voices. Chris though, Chris actually took years of opera lessons and did shit like running and working out, all to train his voice and stretch it out so he could sing the way he does. Layne and Eddie are good, and I respect that you prefer them. But Chris is better. Rock on!

    @Radz117 Well not quite what I was referring to. I appreciate the fact he is a handsome fella. No doubt. He does make me cringe a fair bit though. He is definately on the cheesy side of things. But as they take a massive nod to Led Zep, you can see where he got the whole 'shirt-off ' vibe from. Robert Plant was all about the bare chest.
    Still...Soundgarden definatley kick a large amount of arse and I wish I could get a chance to see them.
