In this video we're exploring the area of Encuentro in Cabarete, Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.
This area is considered up and coming and kind of trendy and is also known for surfing. The area reminds us of what Tulum, Mexico probably felt like 20 or 30 years ago.
We first check out the beach area and watch some surfers and then head up to the small strip of businesses where you'll find surf schools, surf rentals, boutiques and a couple of cafes. We go to a cafe called Pura Vida where we both have smoothie bowls and a strawberry lemonade.
Later we take a 20 minute walk along the beach and a path to the Perla Marina area of Encuentro. Here we go to a little boutique hotel that looks like it's straight out of Tulum called Natura Cabana, where we have a beer on the beach. While here we discuss our upcoming plans and also give an update about our tiny house in Nova Scotia.
Book our Tiny house:
Book directly through Blue Bayou Resort (look for "Delightful Tiny Shack"): secure.webrez.com/hotel/3313
Book through Airbnb:abnb.me/5SdWetak1qb
Lastly we head down the road to the Encuentro Food Truck Park where we have the most delicious chicken and fish tacos.

I will definitely try the fish taco next time… it looked delicious! Thank you guys for another excellent video! 🙏🏼🍀💞
Don’t visit México? Unsubscribe 👋🏽
I'm very happy to see foreign people loving my country, wish you the best and hope to see back!!
I was just in Puerto Plata at the Fortress of San Felipe. I think I saw roughly 5 people there and that was towards the end. If anyone wants to explore the touristy areas in the DR in general, now is the time!!! Great video guys🙂
You're so right! Now is the time to visit the DR 🤙 - Trevor
Loved this place, definitely has some tulum vibes :D One of the coolest spots you have shown so far
Too bad we didn't catch the surfers. It's extra cool when they are out. The food here is great as well 😀 - Trevor
Great great video guys.
I’m a Dominican who follow your work and always love you material it’s good and simple I do learn a lot from it. Good luck on your next project.❤
Thanks and we soooo can’t wait to get back to the DR
That place has a cool vibe. Sorry you are leaving. Thoroughly enjoying this series.😎
Still a couple more vids left don't worry 🤗 - Anna
If you go to Seahorse ranch, you can find stables and go on an hour and a half horseback ride on the beach. Takes you along those same paths you were walking on and through the cabanas.
Love being able to virtually explore DR through your videos. I noticed last video you are back at your original condo complex which would lead me to believe that, even after all your travels around DR, you are still enamoured with Cabarete area as the place to be which is very telling. Looking forward to your next country...Turks? 🤔
100% we luv Cabarete and especially that complex. Turks eh? 🤔 - Trevor
Great video, Encuentro definitely has a cool vibe you don't get in Cabarete or Sosua.
For sure. That's the beauty of the whole north coast! - Trevor
“RUclips will always be our main jam” Phew! It’s the only social I have so I need you to keep to this promise so I know where and what to do with my life 😂 Thanks for the video!
haha thanks Matty. RUclips will also be the main thing for sure. We're just tinkering around on the other platforms honestly 👍 - Trevor
I’m Dominican next time a get back home I will visit that place thanks 🙏🥰
We stay in this area every year. Fun to watch you both walking the path we walk all the time. At Eucuentro beach the blocks in front of “ hideaway” are to help when the tide comes up to not wash away the land. These places are so much fun. Love it there😍😍😍
Also some years those block are covered totally with sand depending of tide !!!! Changes all the time.
It's like that on Cabarete beach as well. It's crazy how much the tide does to the sand 😀 - Trevor
A delightfully fascinating series of beaches, Travellers! Amazing the way one turns a bend and there is a different kind of beach over and over again! 😎
Wow! The beach was incredible! Love the food truck area and the TACOS looked delicious!! Great video guys! ~Cara 😊
All just 10 minutes from our place as well. Go figure! haha - Anna
Awesome. Dr is my fav. Thank You so much for the great content.
Absolutely excellent video.👌.
Concrete blocks, jacks, sharp shapes are called rip-rap. They are designed to lock together so waves break up while they stay together, which prevents shore erosion and promotes sand buildup.
Another great video thanks :)
Cheers Joe. Thanks - Trevor
Love the cafe, and that beach looks incredible - such variety!!
Hello my friends - I subscribed while you were in DR as it was a way for me to see my country through your eyes. Now that you have left I will continue watching. I am a fan to stay 🥰🙏
I've been following along with your DR videos, I loved watching you guys. I was especially excited to see this video because we're retiring to Enquento next year. 🌊😎🌴 You guys are great and your videos have been a great help. Maybe we'll see you on the North Coast of the DR someday 🤟
Amazing videos boys Sosua and Cabarete are the best!
Great video 👍🇨🇦🥰🌴
Surfed there😊 amazing place!
Exquisite content as usual. You guys make videos so enjoyable and delightful that it's becoming a ritual for me and family to watch them every Sunday morning. (On the tv) Thank you guys! Take care. From Mia, Fl.
Woohoo we luv hearing that. How many in your family watch? That's so cool - Anna
As always, it’s refreshing to watch travel videos that bypass the typical vacation hotspots and instead explore other alternative places to visit that are just as enjoyable, if not more so. The gorgeous beaches and delicious food (those look like the best fish tacos I’ve ever seen!) shown as part of the DR’s North Coast area would be added to a vacay bucket list along with Tulum, Mexico!
You're going to luv this place when you visit Colleen. Thanks for watching! 🤗 - Anna
Awesome guys!!! Never knew of such a place in playa Encuentro. And those fish tacos looked pretty damn good… Thanks for sharing!! 👏🏼👏🏼
Such a great place! - Anna
Love all your adventures and so proud you are from Nova Scotia ❤️
🥰
I will be following your vids in canada too^^ 👍.
Listen, my wife and I are about to retire from NY. If God give us health, you had shown us the places we are going to be in DR. Please come back!
Sending love😘😘
🥰
Yes yes yes back in DR
Hello mam ,sir i like the place nice food thank you watching from philippines
Thanks so much for watching 🤗 - Anna
I live in the DR and I didn't know about that place...., your amazing guys!!!!
Hi Eric do you live in Cabarette?
🤗
I live in Santiago@@thepassportlife
I've been to Tulum, and you guys are right! Just add some ruins and I would have thought that's where you guys are! Good job on finding the Presidente's. I drank lots of that when I was in St. Thomas and St. John's of the US Virgin Islands. *sigh*
It's just like Tulum but with way less people TT! You'd luv this place 😀 - Trevor
How could you even stomach going back to Canada after all the DR, eh?😜
Next time, we're definitely making our way to the food trucks and for the pura vida smoothies! 6 days was definitely not enough time in Cabarete.
You will absolutely luv those smoothies! - Anna
The trees in the beginning of the video are mostly almond trees. You'll find them all along the north coast. POP has them all along the Malecón.
Wow so cool to know that - Trevor
Are you guys back in DR wow
Go to playa grande beach , laguna Dudu, blue lagoon puerto plata.
Do not return to Canada without going to Bahia De la Aguilas. The best Dominican Bech
haha you're not the first to tell us that - Anna
from the moment Presidente made it beer boxing and sold it takes less than a month if you can't find it, is because there is a shortage
There seems to always be a little bit of a shortage it seems Ray 😅 - Trevor
@@DelightfulTravellers I will say in the las 5 years more or less is that you are able to get other brands here thats how strong presidente monopoly was because, the averages dominican didnt drink nothing else other than presidente step out of the tourist are any given sunday everywhere you look everybody is drinking presidente. The company just dont sell all the beers any busness want because is not enough🤣Im glad you guys are back
What a neat place! Thanks for sharing it with us. Its almost like a blend of Tulum and Tamarindo (Costa Rica). My husband and I are considering spending 6 months in the DR in 2023. We've previously visited the DR 3 times - La Romana, Puerto Plata and Guayacanes (outside of Santo Domingo). We are considering Las Terrenas for our 6 month stay, but most importantly we're looking for an expat/digital nomad friendly area at an affordable price. Curious - if you had to pick between Cabarete and Las Terrenas for a 6 month stay, which would you choose?
We have a video that answers your question on the channel Jessica. Basically comparing the 2 (Cabarete VS LT) 🤗 - Anna
@@DelightfulTravellers Oh, no way! That's amazing. I must have completely missed that! Thank you, Anna! ♥
@@jessicamichelle8933 how was your stay in La Romana?
@@Thomas-yg7qg Really enjoyed it. The water was absolutely beautiful! We stayed on a resort for most of our stay, but we were able to get out and explore a bit too.
I keep thinking what I would pay even in a non metro area for a taco tray like that in the states... 3.30$-cheap lunch for sure
Beautiful beaches. Because of your video's, I would consider travelling to the Dominican. I heard horrible stories about robbery and how it was not safe, dont take a taxi etc. Thanks and take care.
So luv hearing that Karen. It's definitely not like that here at all. We've not had one single issue come up 🤗 - Anna
North Coast of the DR is generally more save than the big cities.
We've been going here for 15 years. Never a problem. Just use common sense like in any other place. The Dominicans are very friendly❤️
Most tourist don't stray from hotel zones. Some say petty theft is common in some areas (especially cell phones & other valuables) There is a still a lot of poverty outside of the fancy, posh, chic Punta Cana Resort.
Karen, I have been 3 times in Puerto Plata in the last year, one time just me and my son (9 years old) for 23 days. we had a blast and were super safe. And yes, we travel outside the resort. Beautiful country and even more important, the friendliest people
Guys what about Rio San Juan ^^ 👍
It's high on our list but we are running out of time - Anna
Hello guys, love your videos as usual, why do you prefer cabarete over samana? Puerto plata beaches are beautiful but the ones in samana are gorgeous, in other words what does cabarete have that other places don't? I'm assuming that you'll get a place in cabarete, right? Lol you'll be missed, hugs from NYC.
We have a whole video dedicated to this topic on our channel. Make sure to check it out 🤗 - Anna
It's gonna be so sad when you leave DR!!! I will miss the videos! Question, is the Cabarete / puerto plata / north coast where you are always windy? We loved the Punta Cana beaches, but your videos have made us was to go north instead, just a little concerned if it's super windy on the beach every day? Apart from maybe big cities late at night, are there any areas that are better to avoid, as in not safe, or is the whole area just super duper awesome!? Thanks in advance!
PS: I was looking at some of your older videos, eg Punta Cana, the other day. Your videos are becoming near perfect! Great sound, great cut overs, well timed, nicely balanced and so smooth I don't even bother skipping the sponsors !! :)
First thanks for not skipping the sponsors 🤗 We so appreciate that. To answer your question yes it's windy 90% of the time in Cabarete / the North Coast. But it's great because it really helps cool you down. We just really like the vibe in general of Cabarete - Anna
Tulum cannot be compared...it's about Maya history, not just beaches/tourism
Unfortunately it’s about us expats and gentrification
Julie nailed it!
Agreed, just remove the Cartels Corruption and Gen-xyz’s and Mils they just don’t fit in here...
Same tako in Turks $20 USA plus tips
How’s the Sargassum in that area? I’m trying to book my vacation. Last year I went to Punta Cana and the beach was full of Sargassum 😖
Did you see any in the video? Typically it's the east coast of any Caribbean landmass / island that gets with it. It also seems to be seasonal 🤙 - Trevor
❤❤❤❤💯💯💯
I live in Puerto Plata and I would love to collaborate with yall if you are still around!
How can meet people of your country!☀️
Isn't Dom Rep very harsh on cannabis. That's a deal breaker for me.
WHY,WHY whenever people want followers, likes.... They HAVE TO MENTION MEXICO?? I LOVE MEXICAN HISTORY AND CULTURE. VIVA MEXICO CAAAA....💚🤍❤
Si yo quiero visitar Tulum Mexico, lo visito, no me dejó llevar por títulos imponentes. Nadie me va a decir a dónde ir ó no ir.
Estupido video por gente estupida, vivo en tulum desde hace 20 años y he visto como gracias a esta gente pseudo influencers y bloggers tontos se ha convertido en el basurero que es ahora, solo espero que no destruyan republica dominicana de la misma manera.
It's kind of offsetting to constantly getting a "PRESIDENTE not available" in so many places there. Since InVeb bought the Presidente brand 🤨. Would it be because is costlier to brew?
No clue but places often run out.. especially when we are filming 🙈 - Anna
I thought you moved to the DR?
Do you guys recommend to stay in a all inclusive?
It's never our first choice but all inclusives are always fun - Anna
I don't think you guys are using enough sunscreen, though you do look healthy. Nice and healthy but always a little bit pink to me? Can you guys please use more sunscreen?
What beach are you visiting
We say in the video ✌️ - Trevor
🇩🇴🇩🇴💪💪🤟🤟
Comment
I am a bit bothered by your title
Go go dominican républic
The Dominican don’t know about that beach trust me it’s a gringo top secret beach 🏖
Yes, Tulum is officially ruined, time to move on and ruin the next place! Thanks guys!!
Exactly they ruined tulum we just need one of this pseudo bloggers to spread the shit
This video was spot on! I can't wait to return in October, planning for a weekend stay, but at a villa. I rented a car at the airport last visit and made a few friends. Hope to bump into some of you in future travels. Hola
I will be following your vids in canada too^^ 👍.
Awesome! Thank you! So appreciate that 🙏 - Trevor
