    I just bought this and looking forward to having it installed into our outdoor kitchen. The ease of maintenance of stainless steel with the benefits of cast iron is what sold me on pulling the trigger on this griddle.

    We've used this griddler for a variety of items including steak, fish, vegetables ruclips.net/user/postUgkxMcXT6_MuT0hB3ejyGQQHaeof9bwoWPUf and mushrooms and it's been great! Gets that great smokey flavor when using high heat or sear. The grill works amazingly simple and very low smoke for what it is. Heat gets up fairly quick, especially on closed position. The griddler side is fairly simple, better for eggs and pancakes rather than any cooking. Use the flat plates with the grill side if needed.Cleanup is easy and having heat on both sides is great for cooking a large amount or panini press.This definitely gets hot though so be careful with the sides.

      The rust on standard griddles with the cold rolled cooking tops drives us nuts as well. It seems like no matter how covered we keep them, there’s still some orange that creeps in if we don’t use them for a month. We love the stainless on this unit.

    The total cost for the grill, lid and cart is around $3700 as of mid '21. That might be a nice build for the end game of some people looking to buy one and pass it down to their kids but for the majority the blackstones or camp chef (in my case) will do the job. That said I appreciate the video and will always admire stainless steel with glassy eyes and blank stare when I see them in stores. :)

    -Le Griddle is super expensive…no doubt.
    -But u get what u pay for. -Weber grills & pretty much 99% of all that stuff (Blackstine, Camp Chef, etc.) is nowhere near as high quality as they used to be.
    -The Le Griddle will outlast by 3 time’s anything u can buy in a big box store or online.

    Putting ice on an extremely hot surface is NOT recommended as it stresses the metal and may cause it to warp. You'll still get steam if you pour hot water onto the griddle to clean it.

    Awesome review. I'm looking for a new grill. I have several questions. I currently have a camp chef that is pretty good. But will be building a outdoor kitchen once my pool is finished. I stumbled across this video and like this unit. Before I saw this I was eyeing the Blaze flat top.
    How do you compare this one to the Blaze or similar options?
    Also, by having the cast iron underneath, doesn't that area rust as cast iron should be seasoned?
    Does having the cook top being SS, do items stick like French toast, pancakes eggs etc?
    Should the top always the cleaned so its stays shinny or let it darken (seasoned?)
    We have a household of 6, whats the next size up? I can't find online. Only the 30"
    Thanks in advance. 🙌🏽

    • @TheBarbecueLab
      @TheBarbecueLab  3 года назад +5

      Hi Phenom, I haven’t cooked on a Blaze yet, but I think the cast iron fused to the griddle top is the big difference here. In my experience with Le Griddle, the cast iron takes about 10-15 minutes to get good and hot and then it stays crazy hot for the entire time I’m cooking. With most griddles, I need to wait for the top to warm back up in-between courses, but that hasn’t been the case with this one. We have the lid to go with ours, and we haven’t seen any rusting on the cast iron over the past 6 months it’s been outside in the kitchen. Food sticking was an issue for the first few cooks for delicate foods like eggs over medium, but a few cooks in the top releases like we’re used to in cold rolled steel griddles. If you check the LeGriddle US website, there’s a 41” version as well. All the best!

    You could buy about 10 deluxe 4 burner Pit Boss griddles for the same price as this griddle with a cart. Sorry, but this is waaaaaay to much for a griddle if your not building this into an outdoor kitchen, but then why the hell are you only putting a 2 burner in an outdoor kitchen?

    • @TheBarbecueLab
      @TheBarbecueLab  3 года назад

      We've found that most major brands that offer outdoor griddles designed for outdoor kitchens offer a 30" griddle with two burners as their primary griddle for inclusion in a kitchen. There are certainly larger models available as well, but 30" is what we see as the standard amongst the top 5 brands in the ODK space. Can you get a standalone cold rolled steel 36" griddle for around $300? Certainly! The outdoor kitchen installation space is a whole different animal though with completely different pricing and build materials. If you're not building an outdoor kitchen, there are plenty of options for standalone units that could be a great fit for you.

    With all the Griddles out there, is this your favorite? Compared to Pot boss, blackstone etc.

    • @TheBarbecueLab
      @TheBarbecueLab  Год назад

      When I compare this to Blackstone style griddles, they're a different beast. Cast iron cooking top or cold rolled steel cooks very differently than stainless steel. The Le Griddle with the cast iron fused base plate under the cooking surface is more even in its cooking from left to right than the Blackstone style is as well. Pit Boss, Blackstone and Le Griddle all make fine griddles, but it's all in what you want them to do and what kind of budget you're working with. If you have the money for a Le Griddle and a cart (unless you're building it into an outdoor kitchen) then it's a fantastic unit. If you'd rather spend $400-$700 on a griddle, I really like the Pit Boss Sierra and the Blackstone, but they're more of a standard sports car compared to a super car with the Le Griddle in my experience.

      Meat will stick far better to stainless steel, which is ideal for getting a nice sear/crust on steaks, smashburgers etc.. And it takes less heat to do so, on something like a Blackstone you need to crank it in order to get the meat to really stick.

    • @TheBarbecueLab
      @TheBarbecueLab  2 года назад

      I'll start out by saying that I'm not the manufacturer or the local government who sets the rules on this kind of thing, but here's a thought. There are a ton of gas and propane griddles that are installed in residential and commercial settings. The key to this is ventilation, so I would assume that if there's a vent hood that accompanies the installation, that it might be a possibility. Please abide by local regulations though, and do your due diligence.

      From what I understand, that's why you clean it with ice and a Scotch Brite sponge. The coarse side of the sponge gives the stainless a super smooth finish over time making the top essentially non-stick. I'll have to report back when we have more cooks done on it.

      @@XploreNshare We have cooked on it quite a few more times now, and we don't have issues with any food sticking to the top when we cook. I'd say the true test is when we're cooking an egg for fried rice, and this cook top functions just like I see the stainless steel tops that we see at our favorite Teppanyaki restaurant. We also took a page from watching those chefs clean their cook top following a dinner, and we've started using their method of a handled sponge to give greater downward force when cleaning, and it's made a huge difference in how easy it is to clean.

    how to decide 2 burner vs 3 burner

    • @TheBarbecueLab
      @TheBarbecueLab  4 года назад +1

      I think it really comes down to how you'll use it. The 2 burner is wide enough for me to handle fajitas, hibachi and Philly Cheesesteaks for a crowd of 4-6 without any trouble. If you were entertaining a larger crowd than that, then you'd probably want the 3 burner. As we're building our outdoor kitchen, we're planning for entertaining groups and everyday cooking. It's a balance with each cooking appliance whether we're buying it to entertain 20+ people or just to cook for a family of 4. We decided on the Le Griddle 30" as it's large enough to cook 1 thing for a group of 20 (ie: fajita veggies or fried rice) while we cook the main dish on one of the grills we're including elsewhere in the kitchen. That's how we decided, so I hope that helps in your decision making. All the best Raul!

    Looks like you put a lot of work into this video. So I’d like to say, that griddle looks like it works great in the video and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. I hope you’ll give a review a few years down the road.
    But I’ve got a few concerns.
    This griddle is very expensive. A lot of comments have mentioned that.
    ($1000 just for the cart?😦)
    But with cost comes longevity, right?
    😬 maybe.
    Stainless steel, great 👍, cast iron plate underneath🤔. Cast iron in Arizona, great, in any place with the slightest of humidity, RUST.
    Cast iron is terrible at distributing Heat!
    If they wanted to distribute heat, they could’ve copied All-Clad and layered steel and aluminum. THAT would’ve made a truly even cooking surface, plus lighter, plus more weather resistant.
    So, lighter, more even, more durable?
    Then why did they use cast iron????😳
    IT WAS CHEAPER!!
    You paid a Lot of money for this Ferrari but popped the hood and found a 1992 Ford Escort. Don’t try to tell me it’s vintage.
    Everything has an appropriate value.
    Can you afford $2000???
    Are you selling me a new car? Yeah! I’ll figure out a way to get $2000
    Are you selling me a griddle that might rust within the next 5 years??
    I’m out 🙁. I am a BIG quality over quantity type of guy. But these other griddles cost $300 to $500 and will probably last just as long as the Le Griddle.
