Watching a number of these broken cable videos lead me to believe these are fatigue failures. Many flexes cause the cable to crack. Solution: engage the cable only once per day. If you come to a place where you would stop the blades from turning (loose rocks, etc.), just leave them turn and raise the deck to clear instead.
Curious if you got this fixed within 4 months but, I noticed on mine I have two bars on the deck that sway during engagement. I wonder if your spring could be attached to the wrong bar?

What if the Bronco's engagement lever is on the left side of the dash next to the steering wheel?
Mine has tension but down where the aping is it vey slack and doesn’t pull the aping well enough. Is there a way to tighten it?
No, I don’t think you can tighten it. It sounds like you have the wrong part, or something isn’t connected right. Good luck!
