I finally got my BK7m. Thanks much for your past advice and inspirational performances that made me more interested in this great sounding unit. This sax ballad is still one of my favorites from your repertoire. Regards, Hal
I´m from germany and my english ist bad, but I´will to comment this song, that you play - it is amazing and very chilly with great sounds and performance. Thank you very much for this Clip :-)!
Well Keith, thanks for your comments. We all know the original song is an octave up, but this is my interpretation, and I like it where it is! It also suits the amazing sax sound which the BK-7m has. I am yet to find a superior sax sound, though the new supernatural ones in my Integra-7 certainly give it a run for its money.
Excellent John. Sorry I was a bit slow on Friday. It was when you played this that the penny finally dropped. DOH!!!! Be in soon for my BK7m. Thanks for the help and advice.
Hi, The BK-7m is connected to the HX1 organ using a single midi connection from the output of the HX1 to the input of the BK-7m. Chord recognition in this song is split by midi channel so the lower keyboard is transmitted and recognised on channel 2, and the upper keyboard is transmitted on Channel 1. You can also create a split in either keyboard by arranging sounds using the key range function.
Hi, The dual manual keyboard is the Yamaha HX-1,HOWEVER it is making none of the sounds. The sounds all come from a Roland BK-7m module, which is controlled by me playing the keys on the HX1. he sax sound therefore also comes from the BK-7m. Thanks
Hi, The backing track is a style or arrangement which is already present within the BK-7m. You interact with it, playing chrod structures to change the key the backing is playing in. This song is very simple. It has a loop of 4 individual chords.... Dm7, Gm7, Am7, Bbmaj7, Am7
@jasonkaraokeman Yes, the pianos are taken from the Roland piano series. I believe they were from the a few different models, but they share names with pianos on the rd700sx and gx
Wow, 12 years later, have you moved on to something else, I just got mine back out of the box before I ebayed it, after this little track of yours, nope its staying!
Hi Steve, I didn't create the backing track exactly. The BK-7m is an arranger device, and uses styles to provide backing to your play. I have interacted with the style used to create the pitch changes in the backing appropriate for the song. This is the only way I could claim to have 'created' the backing! Without my input it would simply cysle around the backing in one pitch only. It does make it very immediate to sit and play your favourite songs though.
@saintpine Yes, as I stated in the notes about this, every sound you hear is coming from the BK7m, including all the solo instruments - sax and piano etc. The HX1 is being used only as a controller keyboard, providing notes to the BK7m via MIDI.
I have a big question if you answer me?? how to make a MIDI file as a final product using bk 7 m. and features Roland's aranger with greetings thank you !!!!!!
@Sweentech1 Ciao Perfect, I was looking for something like this when I bought my Roland Canvas SD50 about 4 months ago. So I suppose I will sell it and get me this BK7m. I do have the Yamaha Tyros 4, but it's not exactly a portable solution to take around with me in the hotels when I'm far from home on work trips. The BK7m + a 61key midi keyboard is a good solution, when at home I can connect the keyboard as a second keyboard to my Tyros.
@mort7878 I guess they sample them from real instruments... It is my opinion that the sounds are incredibly lifelike and expressive.... one of the many reasons I chose to purchase the BK-7m as soon as I saw it. I still have not regreted buying it for an instant.
Quero comprar o BK-7m pra usar controlado pelo GW-8 pra tocar forró e bolero. Gostei dos timbre de bateria e instrumental em geral. Será que seria uma boa ideia???
Hi again. This and your Strummin Pop are still my favorites. It seems most of the BK7m videos out there sound very dated and old fashioned in their accompaniment sounds. I like your demos because they sound more contemporary. Would you say there are sufficient modern styles to pick from vs old fashioned? Would the BK7m have more, the same, or less modern choices vs Tyros and Pa3x, for example. I am still on the fence to purchasing as there are no units in my US stores to try. Great work!
Great performance, great song and great sound. One question. How do you change the sound of sax to piano pushing only the variation buttons? Is it explained how to do it in the BK7 manual? Thanks for your answer. I have a BK7 and I'm learning how to use it Luis
Are you using the keyboard only as a midi keyboard to the BK-7m or are you using the keyboards own sound for the solo intrumentaions ? In other words, is the BK-7m not only a style generator but also an instrumentation sound generator for the main keyboard?
Excellent - how is the BK-7 connected to the keyboards and how is the split on the lower keyboard transmitted to the BK-7? I am presuming by midi and that the bass being played by the BK-7 is triggered by the chord played on the lower keyboard. What advantage has the BK-7 over an arranger keyboard like the Tyros?
I have assigned the lower manual to output on channel 2 from the HX1. The BK7m is set so that LWR, UP2 and NTA receive on channel 2. The LWR and UP2 parts are then 'split' on the keyboard by zoning them, using the upper and lower keyboard range controls in Menu/Performace edit/Part view. (Last 2 parameter in the list)
Each melodic part can be assigned to a separate midi channel if desired, as can the Note-to-arranger function for your chord recognition zone. All melodic parts you play can also be zoned using upper and lower points between which the sound will work. This allows you to share a surface/controller with one not interfering with the other, and perhaps transmitting each zone on the same midi channel.

Hello, I have the sonic cell, is there a big différence in sound quality with his big brother BK-7m? The replacement of sonic cell by the BK-7m worth it? Thank you very much
denversos m they are completely different sound sets. You really only need to change over if you wish to use the auto accompaniment though as the sonic cell is very capability of great sounds too.

Hi John: I have a BK7m but I couldn´t find the music style you use in this theme. Could you tell me wich do you use? thanks and congratulations for your performance Marcelo
Its output on channel 1and the input on BK7m is for Up1 on Channel 1. I normally have pedals assigned to Channel 3 and for MBS to receive on channel 3, but on this occasion I am not using the pedals.
Are you using Music Assistant style #159 "Careless Speech"? I somehow could not get the same deep sax sound. Did you have to change the part to get the different sound? Thanks
@Italiano551pl Google translate says you are saying this: "Sadly, as Roland has not gone quite the since withdrawn g600: / Why is it so? someone tell me? how you could dispense with czegoć what was once the highest level: /" I am not sure what your point is. There have been many successors to the G600
@Soryt No... not necessarily. The piano sounds are better in particular, and all the other sounds have a much cleaner tone than before, possibly due to it's seperate mastering processor for the keyboard parts, not a shared one with the style parts. The G70 is only better in that it has organ drawbars and guitar mode. If you don't need those, you don't need the G70. Each to their own, but I have both so am very happy.
awesomely well performed !! but can i also connect my roland kp24 to a real piano (not electric piano) to this wonderful roland gadget pls ? thanks for every tip ! aloha
+Nigel Elvis Kingsley Thanks for your kind comments. I have never seen a Roland KP24 before, but just looked it up. I would imagine this will be fine as it outputs midi, and could be useful for chord control. With only 24 notes though, I cant see you being able to use it easily for the melodic parts!
very kind and thanks - i have this because most pianos in hotels etc are real pianos....... hope u get where i'm goin'............. pls keep in touch !!! aloha
The wizard is an excellent tool to get you working quickly, but it is not the be-all and end-all of this product. There are many more detailed midi setting which can be achieved by navigating through the midi settings. As I have set out previously, I have set various channels to receive for each independent melodic part. I used the wizard first though to get a basic setting, (Digital Organ / Electronic Organ) then customised these parts.
Some things on the G70 are better, and many are not. especially its use of effects. Tonally the BK-7m has moved on a bit. Pianos are distinctly better.
Sounds beautiful. Beautifully played. The audio quality is superb. Glad you posted this.
Wonderful sounds, love the sax.
First things first..............Lovely playing.
That sax is excellent, and great piano sound too.
What an amazing module.
I like that music
Very tasteful and smooth! Really good! Thanks for sharing!

That's like the ultimate dream instrument, the Electone HX-1, I mean.
Good Player, ... and Roland !
Thank you for all the lovely comments everyone!
great work ....

Very good job....

Vu que c'est souvent la main gauche qui active la batterie en haut j'aurai placé la batterie sur la gauche en haut au lieu de la mettre à droite.
Thank you!
So cool. Sounds are like I never heard before on any keyboard! Beat all keyboards! Regaerds.
The rhythm is: Midnight Ballad.
Also found on G-70, E-80. E-50/60, and BK-9.
Not available on BK-3/BK-5

Great playing John. Nice to hear that there's still some classy players left.

Yes, It does support single finger modes if you need them. The controlling keyboard does not supply this information.

I moved on while ago to be honest, but recently bought another one. I miss it too much! thanks for your kind words!
Lots of technical minds doing music out there - - you have heart and soul to up the ante.
I close my eyes - I can't tell if the sax is live or Memorex

Midnight Ballad is the Roland's equivalent of Yamaha's "Chillout" style

Cool Im going to add the BK7m to my Kronos X 88key for some nice styles.

Hi, please would you share brand/model of the dual manuals keyboard? the one that plays saxo. Thanks in advance.

How do you set the BK-7m to have the arrangement & sax on 1st midi controller and piano on the 2nd midi controller?
Each melodic part can be assigned to a separate midi channel if desired, as can the Note-to-arranger function for your chord recognition zone. What is the black keyboard right above the HX-1? Are those mini-drawbars under the LCD? Thanks!
the keyboard is the Roland G70. The sliders under the screen are mini-drawbars. It is not used at all during the performance.
Very nice playing! Could you tell me what kind of keyboard you are using to control the BK-7M? Thanks.
In this video, I am using the Yamaha HX1 System 1 organ. I sold this quite some time ago now, but you can use any midi equipped device to control it.
Thanks. I know you can use any MIDI keyboard for controlling. I was just curious because I have never seen a stack (double deck) MIDI keyboard.
