Way to go! It takes alot of courage to launch into that adventure where any help or backup is miles away over water.

Advice on the rigging, rebed the chain plates. To seal them properly, use buytal tape, as it does not go hard like slikaflex. Wrap alittle around the bolts and that will keep out any water that may run in.
Congrats to your friend eian on his engagement.I have never been married.
Never had the opertunity because its a lifetime commitment and peaple today do not know what that means.
    Gerard.

Worth seeing how old the rigging is. if the Bottlescrews are that knackered then the rigging itself is probably past the 10 year age mark at which insurance companies like to see it replaced

Thank you for the advice, I bought the boat on the agreement she was in turn key condition and through my lack of knowledge at the time was convinced by the old owner not to have a survey. I’ve got a rigging company coming out this week to tell me the condition and what needs replacing, but I suspect your right and all the rigging will need replacing

@@Sailingdancingbear - Fingers crossed for you.
If the rigging does turn out to be dodgy then it would make me think the previous owner knew it would come up on a survey and makes me think what else is there that he didn’t tell me about.
Might be worth buying someone at the club a beer and asking them to do a bit of a survey (or even get a survey) so you know what else is wrong.
