    Really love these videos! I'm starting the MSc at Newcastle in September and can't wait to get started!! Have your uni said if they're going to continue with online lectures or do you think you'll get some in-person lectures in the new term? Newcastle have said they're going for a "blended approach"

    • @emmajoan8283
      @emmajoan8283  3 года назад +1

      So glad you enjoy them! We have been told that in the winter term we are having a blended approach which includes a full day of lectures in person, full day of lectures online, day of placement and then I think one other day (but I’m not sure whether that is in person or online) and then a self study day :)

    thank you for these videos super informative!! I'm about to commence my studies in SLT, and was just wondering, apart from the dissertation, what format did the exams usually take? Were there more multiple choice and short answers-based exams like in medicine? or more essay-based?

    Thank you for this video - like some of the others I’m starting at City in September and found this super helpful! Was just wondering whether you found it easier to write down notes or type notes during lectures etc??

    • @emmajoan8283

      So glad you enjoyed it and found it helpful. Personally I typed my notes, so when I was revising or wanted to find specific information I could just search for it :)

    Hey, loved the video! I'm from a sen teaching background and feel like their is no worklife balance whatsoever and I have been trying to so some research on slt. I go to work and go home and carry on working and planning to stay on top of things, is this similar in slt? Or is it a bit more relaxed in that sense, like when your on placement do you have to bring work home with you?. Good luck with your career! 😊

      Hi Luke, Glad you enjoyed it! I would say it is definitely possible to have work life balance but I do recognise that it is sometimes hard to. I have found with the course it has been difficult to balance but I definitely do have a work life balance most of the time even when I am on placement. It's usually when there are deadlines coming up as well as placement and lectures when I don't. I haven't graduated yet but I would imagine finding that balance again will be a challenge but from speaking to other SLT's they manage to do it. Thanks so much and good luck with applying if that's what you decide to do!

    Hiya I'm going into my first year in 2021. I was wondering what your undergrad was? and did you feel it helped you grasp the concepts better?

    • @emmajoan8283
      @emmajoan8283  3 года назад +1

      Hello! My undergrad was psychology and it helped me grasp the psychology module better for sure but not necessary as can definitely still do well without an undergrad in a related subject :)

    Hi Emma! Very useful and informative, thanks a lot. I'm an English Language and Literature graduate and after working for 5 years I decided to do masters. So I've recently applied for SLT MA in City and now waiting for the result to come. I've been looking into it for the past few months, though I have no experience in SLT whatsoever. It does seem very intensive but doable at the same time. Would you say that it's difficult to pass the exams and learn the course material? What advice would you give to someone with no SLT background?
    Thanks a lot!

      Hey Elif! I’m glad you enjoyed it. Good look with the application. I think it is helpful to know that lots of people don’t have direct experience. English language and literature is very helpful degree to have, especially for particular modules. It’s not difficult to pass I don’t think if you try hard, do all of the work and stay organised. Although I don’t think it’s easy either. My advice is go in with an open mind and make the most of all the placements and the people on your placements knowledge and advice. :)

    Thank you so much for this video! With this course, do you think it would be possible to also manage a part time job alongside?

    • @emmajoan8283
      @emmajoan8283  2 года назад

      Hello!! Yes definitely is possible but I don’t think I could’ve managed more than 8 hours a week in the weekdays to find a social life /work/ healthy balance

    Thank you so much for this video, it is very helpful! I was wondering how the placements work? Do you have a choice in where you get placed or is it all random?

    • @emmajoan8283
      @emmajoan8283  3 года назад

      So glad you enjoyed it! We didn't get a choice where we were placed but you fill out a form prior to starting placement and on that form you can state if you would explicitly like or dislike a particular setting but it is not guaranteed :)

    Thank you for posting this ! It was really informative :) Did you ever have situations where you had to deal with difficult patients, and do you receive any support or training for such situations ?

    • @emmajoan8283
      @emmajoan8283  2 года назад

      Hi Matteo, I’m glad you found it helpful. There are difficult situations sometimes, there are parts of the course that help you with this. But being on placement and seeing how others deal with these difficult situations is the most helpful!
