Hey Emma, It would be great to see some of the things you do to prepare for clinic etc. I'm just going into second year BSc and its definitely intense. Its been cool to see your journey. thanks for sharing nice to see something on SLT in the UK 😁
Hi Emma, Congrats on being a NQT! 👏👏👏 You're the first person on yt that I can found that shows their life/experience with SLT, which is super nice and helpful! I'm in the process of doing my degree for SLT (first year!) and I was wondering if you could explain in detail how you take notes pre/post lecture. Like do you make flashcards based on what the lecturer is saying or what the info from powerpoints uploaded onto moodle say? Thanks!
Hey Iqra, Thank you so much! I'm so glad you've enjoyed the videos and found them helpful! Exciting that you've just started. Good luck with it all! My TOP TIPS are to only rewrite/ type everything if it helps you to remember!! What i tended to do was to save the powerpoint (before the lecture) and then copy and paste from the powerpoint (during the lecture) into a word document and would type additional comments the lecturer would make throughout . Although some people just added to the lecturer's power points, hand wrote notes or some didn't even write notes. Hope that's helpful!
Hi Emma. Your video is very helpful. Please keep making them show us what it is like of working as an SP. I am planning on applying for an SLP master's course in an English-speaking country. However, as a non-native speaker of English, I feel very insecure about my language competence and afraid that it would be a huge disadvantage for me if I were to enter such an intense course. After all, a huge part of an SP's job is to teach people how to correctly use certain grammar structures and model the correct way of producing certain sounds. I would say my English level is competent but definitely not up to the level of native speakers. Do you have any advice for me? Thanks in advance!!
Hi, I am currently finishing up my degree in SLP in the U.S with an accent. As long as ppl understand what you are saying, you will be fine. The field is dominated by native white females, and I admit sometimes I feel intimidated. Go for it if you really want it!
Hello, thank you for your comment. Sorry I have not been good at making them but am hoping to make some more! I would say, having more languages than English is a huge blessing!! So great that you do. As I have an English accent, I can't fully understand or advise based on this. I would say that to get into Universities in English speaking countries which result in qualifications the same as those in the UK (e.g. HCPC qualified) there are English entry requirements and if those are met you are more than capable!!
Thanks for posting this Emma and congrats on qualifying! I'm 6 weeks into the MSc at UCL and it's already pretty intense 😳 really enjoying it so far though and will be making note of these tips!!
Well done on finishing your MSc! You mentioned asking people in your placements for recommendations on things to read or listen to, but do you have any books/podcasts/essays you would recommend to someone interested in this profession? Thanks

Hi Emma, I love your videos showing life as an SLT masters student! I'm applying for SLT masters courses to hopefully start in September 2023 and am currently writing my personal statement. Do you have any tips for what to include in the personal statement?
Hey Emma, I am looking into applying for the SLT masters for 2024. My undergrad is very different (marketing), do you think this will hinder me? Also do you have any tips for the personal statement? 😊
It did vary but tended to have 3 days a week of class and when on placement 1 day of classes and 3 days placement. But it does vary and this was during COVID.

Hi.....is there any scope for aslp in london
Hello, how many days a week did you have classes?
It did vary but tended to have 3 days a week of class and when on placement 1 day of classes and 3 days placement. But it does vary and this was during COVID.
Hi Emma I want to do this course also but do I have to do a masters to become a speech therapist or do I need only a degree to become a slt 😊
You can just do an accredited BSc course or, if you already have an undergraduate degree, the MSc version. Hope that helps x
Exactly as Rita said (thank you) and thanks for your comment Iqra.
