    I forgot to add that the title of the Jubilee Middle Ground on autism was also problematic for many reasons, first because it says ‘Can you tell if someone has autism?’ when it should say ‘Can you tell if someone is autistic?’ because a lot of people in the community (myself included) prefer to say that we’re autistic rather than we have autism as it alienates it and makes it seem like some sort of disease whereas it’s very much a part of who we are as people, a part of our identity. Also I think this title reinforces the idea that autistic people look a certain way which encourages certain stereotypes… maybe I’m nitpicking, I know these video titles are chosen based on what’s more catchy and will attract the most viewers, I just wish Jubilee would have done a bit more research on autism is all :) what do you think?

    Talking of BBC documentaries have you seen Christine If Guiness one about female autism? It was the one that got me started on my realisation, this explained so much of my life and to do a ton of research. Thankful to content creators for sharing their experiences, as helps so much to feel; seen, heard and validated.

      YES! Actually my psychiatrist recommended it to me after our initial consultation, and she said it helped lots of people self-diagnose!

    totally get your concerns about the questionnaire, i have the same
    my mom is in denial and whenever i try to ask her any subtle questions about my childhood she pick up on my reasoning for asking and starts saying i was a ‘normal’ child (i suspect she also has autism and add, she also does support me trying to dig into it and find out whether i do have it), so not helpful at all. she also wasn’t present for the greater part of my life because she had to work a lot as a single parent. plus, she just doesn’t remember stuff
    i also don’t have any friends or a partner who can fill such questions out, plus i haven’t really seen any of my friends for the past three years.
    i don’t even know whether they give such questionnaires here in Russia to fill out, and i’m anxious because i have no idea what’s gonna happen in the first appointment. also, it’s quite scary because my country still uses dsm-10 which is just beyond me and has recently paused the transition to dsm-11 which is just so messed up and dangerous (like every single thing the government official do here). and adult diagnosis is extremely rare and is only possible to get in some private clinics. plus, i have adhd (diagnosed half a year ago (i’m 23 going on 24) which is very present in my demeanor and also am high-masking so to be honest i sorta feel like i’m screwed :(
    sorry for the rant

      I hear you and validate your experience. As an older adult in the UK not having extra people to back up what you say and fill in the forms, can also make it harder to get on waiting list, the form said unless you have that, even if approved to get into waiting list, at best the result will be inconclusive. So many barrier, gatekeepers and lack of research along with outraged information being used for assesments, it's so hard isn't it.

    I would recommend you also to check if you have ADHD. Autism and ADHD are very similar in some traits and can exist in comorbidity, you may have AuDHD :)

    • @paunesjourney
      @paunesjourney  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yes I know about auDHD as we suspect my partner has it :) Personally I’ve looked at the diagnostic criteria and it doesn’t fit me, but because I’m in burnout right now my cognitive/executive dysfunction makes it look a lot like I have ADHD 😂 symptoms have to have been present since childhood though which isn’t my case 😊

    I'm glad you were able to finally be diagnosed. I was diagnosed at about the same time as you would have been! 🥳🥳
    Yes! Christine (Abby's mom) annoyed me during that discussion. They ahould have cut her bits off (no not the British way you weirdos) and left the rest with the people that are autistic. I found it very condescending how she was repeating the claim "now everyone is autistic". How dare she say that when I and many others have come to our realization by watching a program her daughter partly starred in?! I realize she has experience with it vicariously through her daughter, but we LIVE it.

    Yes Meg at I'm autistic .now what is fantastic. Will come back to this and sub to your channel. I'm trying to get on the waiting list for assesment. I've had a ton of forms for pre assesment assesment, been denied an autism assessment, and they are considering if I can be put on the waiting list for adhd.
    Nhs route; I was lucky that go referred me as I have her 8 pages of reasons why.
    The NHS are currently quoting up to 18 months for pre assesment.
    If accepted on to wait list, three year wait for adhd and 5 years wait for autism assesments (might be the other way round soz)
    Follow up appointment to discuss options a further 2 years and for 'annual ' medication review wait list o of 16 months.
    Just a heads up, even if you have funds for private assessment to avoid the long waiting lists, unless that assesment meets THE criteria, they will not accept it and have heard that schools and local gov won't accept findings either.
    As an older adult another challenge they said on the paperwork was; unless you have close family or someone who has known you well since childhood, then even if you are revered for testing, the result will be inconclusive.

    • @paunesjourney
      @paunesjourney  6 месяцев назад

      I’m afraid the waiting lists with the NHS are terrible… 😢 I was very lucky I could do it privately. As for the family member who knew you as a child; I didn’t have one and still got my diagnosis! It depends where/with whom you do it I guess…

    Thank you for the info and for sharing your experience. I’ve been trying to find patterns in the autism community so I’m wondering, are you vegan or plant based?
    I’d love to know your experience in that :) keep makin videos!

      I’ve actually been a vegetarian for years, and I’m trying to eat more and more vegan 😊

    • @MilosRoom
      @MilosRoom 6 месяцев назад

      @@paunesjourney thank you for sharing that. Would you say that being vegetarian or averse to eating animals has anything to do with autism? If so, would you say it’s more a sensory issue? A empathy affliction? Or a mix of both?

    • @paunesjourney
      @paunesjourney  5 месяцев назад +1

      Honestly I would say it has something to do with autism, and it's a mix of both for me! I'll make a whole video all about sensory sensitivities, but I couldn't stand the grease in meat growing up, and then as a teenager I decided I didn't want to contribute to the meat industry anymore because I love animals too much... many of the autistic content creators I follow are vegan, so there might definitely be some correlation there!

    • @MilosRoom
      @MilosRoom 5 месяцев назад

      @@paunesjourney that’s interesting. I’m right there with you on the grease and caring for the animals. I would like to encourage you to look into the egg and dairy industry if you haven’t already as there are more deaths associated with that than the meat industry (don’t even get me started on fish!)
      Dairy and eggs also make up half of the climate influence as meat industries. Thankfully we live in a time where it’s an easy switch. I hope you can see I am being genuine, if it helps, my special interests are nutrition and justice.. okay thx for reading
      What vegan creators do you watch? I’d love to follow them
