Never drank whiskey in my life, but I now know the difference between the different types of whiskey, the main regions where it's produced and the main characteristics that it entails, the rich history of whiskey and a lot more! I just fell in love with your channel. Love the reviews, the banter, the awesome community and the true passion you have for whiskey. Will definitely soon invest in my first bottles! Keep up the amazing work and may the whiskey vault never run dry!
knob creek or bulleit are two solid bourbons. wild turkey 81 or 101 are two others. cant go wrong with JD either. or maybe crown royal as a first, it is super smooth and friendly.
Recently turned 40, started drinking whisk(e)y (part of my midlife crisis). Found your channel to figure out what direction in whiskey to explore. I have watched most of your reviews over the past couple of weeks, and very have enjoyed them. YOU'RE NOT HELPING!!!! I want everything you gentleman review. Scotch, dourbon, rye, blends, Irish. The good, bad and ugly, you guys simply have fun drinking. I know that I will simultaneously love and regret my next whiskey purchase. So thanks for nothing and keep delivering the great video!!!!
Watching November 20, 2019. I visited Rebecca Creek Distillery in September 2019 and will be sharing my visit and doing a review of the "Rebecca Creek Fine Texas Whiskey" in 2020 during Texas Whiskey Month. So, I am comparing notes. The distillery is a really cool place. They have great food vendors, they serve cocktails and have a stage for live music.
He is not as short as I had expected. Rex has to be quite tall. Daniel is quite generous tho. I had a wonderful time joining in on the tasting. And the one thing that id like to not say so it does not make people think that they can just come and get it.
That's awesome you're into rock climbing. My gf is too and introduced me to it when we first met. I've been doing it for about 3 yrs now and love it! Great exercise and I find it very meditative as well. Do mostly indoor but we take trips to outdoor spots every now and then too.
Whiskey Vault I'm all about bouldering. There are some nice spots in Napa we go to and it's some of the most gorgeous climbing I've ever done. All the vineyards and rolling hills are pretty spectacular to look at.
I got some of the cotton candy hint too, my friends thought i was nuts, ha. Awesome job guys. I am starting to explore more whisk(e)ys, bourbons, and scotches. Thanks guys from south Texas
Rex i also added the water and it was good. Never knew how to add water til y'all talked about it. And yes biscuts are fluffy, flaky, goodness not cookies! Lol
New to the channel, not much of a drinker in general but like the odd dram now and then, finding the videos fun yet still informative. Going back and forth from reviews to local liquor store site to see if I can find any of the products here in Canada; so far there is a good number available so I will have to give some a try. Unfortunately, there are some real price differences though.
Whoa...my go to toast! But I add two lines, "When you cheat, may you cheat death" and "When you lie, may you lie next to one you love." Good stuff! Loving this channel!
I'm making my way through the series, haven't seen you try any off the Singleton whiskys, how about tasting the 12 year old or the spey cascade? They're a little easier on the wallet in my country, so I would be interested in what you would have to say! Cheers
Hey guys...I need some advice. I got into whiskey about a year ago. I started off with common brands you can buy at every liquor store like a lagavulin 16, which is still one of my favourites. I don't know alot about whiskey...I'm still learning but I think I'm getting better. There is no dedicated whiskey store close to where I live so it makes things harder. I have to order whiskeys if I like to try new ones which is in some cases rather expensive and I'd like to taste a whiskey before I buy a bottle. I am asking for some advice on which whiskey I should try next. I'm not a huge fan of extremely peaty, smokey ones. For example, the 10 year aged Tallisker is too much for my liking. So far, the Lagavulin 16 is just about the max. amount of smoke I can take. I like it because the smoke doesn't stay for too long. I kinda like the sweeter ones with a hint of caramel, like the 12 year aged canadian club blend. I know that this one isn't an outstanding whiskey, but I like it. I also like a classic wild turkey 101. Thank you for any helpful response.
Dan Rice Thanks for your answer. I heard about Elijah Craig being a mild one. I might try that one in the near future. Have you heard about Cragganmore 12? I heard it is one of the friendliest single malt scotch out there.
Finally finished my first whole bottle since getting into whiskey. Happened to be Michters American and one of my more recent purchases. Damn thing was too good !
Been gently getting into Scotch Whisky. Last night, the restaurant I went to had Macallan 12. I feel in love and found out I haven't really lived life. Here goes to the 15th bottle of Whisk(e)y I've bought since I've been watching you guys lol
I just went out to Rebecca Creek a couple of months ago and did a tasting. I walked out with a bottle of the Rebecca Creek Whiskey, but just a head-up: their "Texas Ranger" whiskey is VERY different. It's insanely sweet. I'm sure it'd be ok in the right cocktail, but I'd avoid drinking it straight unless you want to add a shot of insulin to your morning routine.
Rex, all I really remember is vanilla. I remember telling my wife it tasted like even sweeter cream soda. There may have been more to it, but on a small taste all I really got was a kick in the sweet tooth that'd make Chuck Norris jealous.
Hey guys. I am a huge bourbon fan and just had Johnnie Walker Red (my first scotch) this past weekend and hated it. Is this a bad sign for scotch and me getting along?
Don't think so. The thing with scotch is that the flavor profile is really broad. This because of the different regions (speyside, low- and highlands, islands and islay) and different types (single malt, blended malt, blended scotch etc). Red label is a pretty cheap and blended whisky made for mixing with sodas and not for drinking neat. I would advice (as if that's worth anything ;p) to start with scotch trying a single malt like a glenfiddich, macallan, glenrothes, glengoyne or glenkinchie or other. After that you can try any of the island whiskies (except talisker) or aberlour for example. Then try some peated bowmore, bruichladdich or talisker and finally go to the ardbeg, laphroaig, lagavulin or coal ila if you keep liking the scotch. After that try everything else, empty your wallet and get a second mortgage .
not really. scotches can be veerrryyy different from one to another. more so than other whiskeys. there may very well be a perfect scotch for you - but there's nothing wrong with sticking to bourbon if thats your thing.
So my first distillery tour in Wisconsin, it became apparent pretty early on that I knew more about whiskey than anyone else on the tour, including the guide. I just decided to sit back and enjoy the tasting, because if the rest of the crowd is asking questions like "Are you guys gonna start making scotch?", I'm just gonna look like a dick asking about their barrel char levels and how they decided on a flavor profile. The next one I went to, however, was fantastic, and our guide knew everything. I would say, just read the room, and if you think your question MIGHT get answered, go for it. If you KNOW it won't, just chill and take your own notes.
Somewhat similar story in Michigan, but I was in a tiny tour, me and a few friends (who don't know much about whiskey and don't even like it -they only wanted to treat me to a tour) and one other guy and his wife who seemed to be in a similar situation. Everyone stayed pretty quiet throughout the whole tour until the guide (who was the head distiller who was maybe in his mid 20s?) thanked us for being the "simplest" and "easiest" group of tourists he's ever had which seemed kind of snobbish in its own right, so the other guy started with series of slightly snobbish questions and I joined in. The other guy asked about barrel charring and the distillation, which I feel asking about barrel charring is slightly snobbish because it has no bearing on the group, especially since that distillery doesn't age their whiskeys, and furthermore might have even less relevance since it's illegal to distill in Michigan anyway. I asked questions about water filtration systems (since our city has notoriously polluted rivers) and I saw a single quarter cask up ontop of a store room sitting in direct sunlight and questioned him about aging in the sunlight which he only said "Good eye!" and gave us a sample of the whisky. In the end, the guide seemed pretty happy we asked questions even though it felt like we were slightly provoked into it, and we even got some of their special aged batch.
Rex J Henry, which is a little north of Madison. I'm also totally trying to get them to send you guys some of their stuff. These guys are patient and it shows.
No, we're working through this curriculum as we grow the school, so right now Level 3 is the highest level. We'll be building the next two levels in the next two-4 years.
My resolve to NOT be a Pretentious Whiskey Snob was tested this weekend, when a new friend declared themselves a fan of whiskey. I asked what they liked, and the response was "Jameson [this was met with a nod of approval], Fireball, and Tennessee Honey [I really hope my face didn't betray me]". I replied with some version of "the best whiskey is the one you like drinking", and followed up with an offer to share some of my supply (starting with Weller). This is someone I'd like to hang out with more, so hopefully whiskey is one of many things we could enjoy together.
If this channel ever does another collaboration I think it would be awesome to see Rex and Daniel with Tim and Bradley cigar reviews talking about whiskey and cigars. Tim and Bradley are so funny to watch, just like these two and putting them in the same room drinking whiskey and smoking cigars, what could be better!
I have just turned 18 (legal age to drink alcohol in Scotland) and you guys have made me want to get into whisky so badly, I know you have done a beginners video to whisky, but could you recommend any good Scottish whisky to get started on?
Hey guys, I'm attending a whiskey festival in Greece by the end of the month. The ticket price includes some masterclasses, workshop and also whiskey tastings (6 drinks). What are some whiskey's that are really good, but also quite unattainable in regards to their price? I mean if I'm going to mooch, I better mooch some whiskey's I can't try otherwise. Thanks for making me an afternoon whiskey drinker 😂
yes ive tried some the 15 year old i believe it is, not the 20 its one of the more entry level versions, its very nice, but also so stupidly hard to get that id say its better just to mooch it then pay second market prices.....though for actual retail prices theyre absolutely amazing. also i think the 23 year or 25 would probably be the best but the 25 is selling for 15k USD soooooo yeah fuck that with 15k i could get alot of whiskey. i will say this, apparently if you take two of the cheaper wl weller bourbons and mix them they are smoother and nicer then pappy van winkle though smoothness isnt the only characteristic to look for and pappy is anything but harsh. if you can get carribou crossing single barrel thats one of the best canadian whiskeys in the eyes of many people. theres also obviously too many scotchs to list but idk what kinda scotch you like and im more of a bourbon guy myself. but yeah if the chance for a pappy mooch comes up take it, the shits hard to get and stupidly inflated but its also really nice so no wonder why plus with the small batches and the theft of some of the whiskey its a little well known in the whiskey hobby so yeah everyone figured it must be amazing and started trying to get it liked it then it became impossible to get now its held up as a grail whiskey meaning people will try and sell them for stupid amounts of money and even fake them. id also say if the chance for gledfiddich 40 or 50 year old pops up take that lol its a 25k bottle, also some guy in my city stole one from a local liquor store(where i live the government owns the liquor stores) someone forget to lock the vintages case and he just walked up opened it casually took the bottle walked around and left after stashing it. however it should be noted in the states costco has their own brand of scotch thats 40 years old, the barrels apparently come from glenfiddich and are just barrels that dont have the exact perfect flavor profile, the whiskey is still amazing from what ive heard but its 700$ as opposed to multiple thousands. so there is that potential way of trying a whiskey made by glenfiddich thats that old. oh also their french made vodka is grey goose for half the price, they bought a grey goose factory and then just continued making it :P oh also if someone offers you to try a whiskey thats like super limited like only one bottling ever from the only barrel id go for it but it can be a double edged sword my buddy did it once and found a whiskey he absolutely loved but he couldnt ever get more of it. an example would be the toronto distillery co true single barrel whiskey its hickory casked, but yeah only one barrel made and they said they said they wouldnt do another due to the issues with charring the hickory cask. or like really old bottles that were made like say 25-100 years ago by distilleries that no longer exist. but yeah sorry for the rant short version too many to list but id say if pappy van winkle pops up go for it its nice stuff but not second hand market price nice. heres hoping they start making more of at least the entry level versions keep the 23 and 25 as the top end shit and let people go price jack those on the second hand market, but theres bottles that retail for like 50 that they are selling for 900-1k or more.....so yeah, at those prices id go get knob creeks entire selection along with bulleit some scotch elijah craig and buffalo trace and throw in a bottle of crown for some non whiskey drinkers and stock my bar. or go get a really really nice vintage bottle of something or a couple even.
bmxriderforlife1234 Well, you really got me interested in the Pappy Van winkle so that's one spot taken. I'm thinking of splitting my free drinks into one or two bourbons, one for each of the four regions of scotch and perhaps an Irish or Canadian one. One will be Pappy (thank you for that),one will definitely be a smokey Islay (smokey whiskies are some of my favourites / so far I'm leaning towards Bowmore 25) and the rest are up for grabs. I'll also consider the Glenfiddich as my choice of a Speyside, although it's lower price-range counterpart doesn't quite fit with my taste preferences. In any case, thanks bro 😉
I live a 5 minute drive away from the Deanston distillery and see the 12 & 18 bottles just over Daniels right shoulder in every video. When are you going to put me out of my misery and review them? So underrated!
Hey guys Fellow Texan living in Massachusetts for now can’t wait to be back in that area so I can take your class I’m new to the channel but I can say you have a new loyal subscriber love what y’all are doing was hoping you would do a tasting of Buchanans the 12 18 or Masters that’d be cool thanks a bunch guys keep up the good work
Hiii ! So. I'm a binge watcher of your videos but I could not find any review on any Bowmore ! It's the first scotch whisky I ever had (also the first I loved !) I was hoping to see it on any of the shelves but no (damn) ! Would you guys give it a try at some point ?
Video idea for you guys: I'd love to see a video of your choice of whisky from each of the main whisky making regions of Scotland that best highlights the characteristics of the whisky made in those regions.
Now I can't confirm this, so I'd also like a Rebecca rep to clarify, but from what I've gathered it's a whiskey/vodka blend. I've never heard a ratio, but I've had more than a handful of people say it's a blend. So I'd take it with a grain of salt. Eventually I'll go on their distillery tour and found out.
Just found this video the reason it is not a bourbon is because it has neutral spirits added to it. It should be on the bottle. Either 17 or 21% if I remember correctly.
Have you guys reviewed eagle rare yet? I'd really like to see how that one stands up to others. And also it would be great to know what it is similar to since I can get it for like $25 and that's as much as I can spend on a bottle of booze atm.
Live stream was awesome. I enjoyed a Glenfidich 15 with you. You all are making me realize bourbon deserves a second chance. My Bday is coming up in November and have a few friends coming for a scotch tasting. Someone suggested having some bourbon. If you had to pick one bourbon to fit into a scotch tasting, what would it be? (I've got all 5 regions covered with at least two bottles, and a Compass Box Hedonism, so its gotta be good).Oh, and Daniel, feel free to come by, so someone knows what the hell we are talking about!
Ok Whiskey Vault I got a doosey for ya.. what do you think would be the best whiskey to drink only on the rocks? Something that would still make you say "that's a damn fine whiskey"
You guys should review the bottle of The Glenlivet founders reserve. I've recently discovered this channel and I love it, every review episode I've watched I see that founders reserve bottle over Daniels right shoulder and since I recently picked up a bottle I'd love to hear what you think of it.
Anyone can point me to the right direction of a bourbon with creamy note? Just got Angel's Envy while not disappointing but wasn't what I was looking for. Great fruity/floral bourbon, but feel more of a scotch (which is great) but less than the classic bourbon for me.
I like deanston a lot, but taste is very subject. have you seen our beginners whiskey video yet? it may help you narrow down your preferred flavors. ruclips.net/video/PoeIPrIXUOw/видео.html&t=
Rex wow doesnt expect u to reply directly.. thank u for the input and stay awesome guys!! Enjoyed ur video even tho i don't understand much about whisky..
Hi guys. Thanks to putting me up to the world of whisky. I was looking for the perfect drink to pour on those cold winter nights sitting near a lit fireplace watching a movie with my girl. Thanks to you i found that the solution was waiting or me in my home bar the whole time. Said solution was Cardhu 15 years single Malt Scotch Whisky. Already tried the Glenfiddich 12 and fell in love with it. Could you please taste and review some Cardhu 12 or 15 for me please? If not for me do it for everyone out there looking to find a drink fit for the upcoming winter. Much love to you both.
PS: I am from the city of Braga in Portugal witch is about 40 mins drive from Porto (Port). Cardhu 12 is 30 euros here and Cardhu 15 is 40 euros and is very available here in Portugal.
Daniel, would it be possible to give a 30 second rundown about what the different levels of the sommelier course mean?? To be honest, I'm not sure if a level 3 is really rare and good or if that's a participation trophy that you wear haha
i believe level 3 is the top level, he said in a previous video that the class for it focuses on scotch alot so yeah probably pretty complex. in my mind i see it being the top level but im not actually sure 100%
daniel is teaching classes right now so he probably won't see this, at least not for several days. in the meantime, here's a link to the website. whiskymarketing.org/5-levels-of-certification/
Na, Zdrowie! Rex what do you put in your hair you magnificent bastard?! Is it bald eagle tears? The collected and condensed breath of a wolf? Your secrets! Tell them to us! Love the show. You guys are one of those great-terrible influences.
WisdomForWizards yeah! I think the story is the same for a lot of us. Since I found these guys at the beginning of the summer, my whiskey collection has expanded at an exponential rate! I can look at a whiskey list now and make informed decisions to boot!
Just finished binge watching everything Whiskey Vault, you radically changed my view of whiskey. First exposure was 8 shots Jack Daniels, a light beer between each… it didn’t end well. Avoided Whiskey until Second Exposure: 3 shots Jameson (it was St. Patrick’s day) Several Irish car Bombs followed… it didn’t end well. My liquor cabinet hasn’t had a whiskey in it until I found your show, now McClelland’s Islay, Talisker 10, Bullet Rye, Makers Mark, Elijah Craig small batch, 4 roses single barrel… and it’s only been one month. Also, I’d like to state the obvious to the Mooch, remember your place. Daniel is the expert there to share his wealth of knowledge with us Whiskey soaked masses, Daniel is the cool one (even when he tells his dad jokes which we are all ashamed that we laugh at). The only reason they put you on the screen is your raw sex appeal. (And to occasionally to remind Daniel to talk about the Whiskey.) Keep up the good work you magnificent bastards, and May the Whiskey Vault never run dry!
thank you! we're glad you're with us. in regards to - knowing my place... part of my raw sex appeal is that i ignore any good taste, standards and protocol.
I have to give it to Daniel, he looks smooth in that kilt and that jacket. I don't care what that Scottish customer said, he probably was just jealous that Daniel as a non-first generation scottishman looked better.
Got your newsletter today and was very interested in an article in there about one of Scotland's secret whisky stashes. The military base that has all these bottles is literally two minutes from my house, and in fact the house I'm in used to be owned by the Ministry Of Defense and most of my neighbours are marines who are based at Condor! I found it so funny to get a newsletter from you lads over in Austin, Texas, telling me a story of whisky which is located within walking distance from me! Maybe I can get someone to sign me into the officers' mess and check that stash out for myself!! :D
Rebecca Creek is somewhat bland but easy for everyone to drink even non bourbon drinkers. Good for the guys poker party. Their Texas Ranger product is much more complex and enjoyable. Would like to see you guys review that one.
Hey Daniel and Mr. Mooch Extraordinaire. I'm binge watching and I am back in the 120s but I will be caught up soon! You expressed your distaste for flavored whiskies. I wonder what your take is on something like Linie Aquavit? Whisky? It's an interesting addition to sea-matured spirits. Oh, and it has Rex's favorite anise flavor to make it interesting.
I'm not a huge fan of anything flavored and sweet, although I can acknowledge the skill and quality. I just don't prefer sweets in general and most of those tend to be sweet, IMO. Glad to have you watching!
Speaking of awful beverage trends...Rex, I double-dog-dare you to have a dram Michael Scott style! (That means a glass of whiskey with Splenda mixed in)
As a 6 month new dad, I feel this is my doodie..... eh-hem, sorry, Duty... I've got diapers on the brain! A ham sandwich walks into a bar and orders a whiskey, the bartender says "sorry, we don't serve food here"
gah! i have 3 and my oldest is 11. resist the urge!!! although i may have to break down and let my wife buy a mini van... which is a dad joke on wheels.
Rex, you know you enjoyed that one!! Give into the dad jokes and buy yourself a little more time without the minivan!!! The universe will eventually lead you into one or the other.
Whats your opinion on hip flasks? not classy/classy? an absolute sin to drink out of a flask? High or low-quality whiskey out of them? Drink out of one and experience how difficult it is. lots of love
I have several. I use them for when I need whisky in places where a bottle would be awkward... like kindergarten graduation. :-) Actually, I usually use them just for travel and then pour it into a glass when I arrive.
Update from the Whisk(e)y Noob: There will be more Whisky in my life! I still have a few drams left to try, but so far, me and my gf prefer whisky over whiskey.
I don't understand the whiskey/cigar thing. It would seem to me (non-smoker) that smoking a stogie is going to blunt your palate and you won't be able to appreciate that wonderful whiskey you're drinking. thoughts?
It definitely blunts/ alters the palate, but it doesn't wipe out flavor entirely. So, in my experience it brings out the sweetness in a whisky. I enjoy cigars, but usually I pour a nice whisky, drink it alone, then light up a cigar with my refill of a more budget whisky
after watching the live stream I am left wondering when we will get to meet wife and mom? Maybe they could just stand off to the side and give you crap while you drink ...
HEY! Whisk[e]y Biscuit idea. WHSK[E]Y BISCUIT IDEA!!!!! Have Daniel walk around downtown Austin to whiskey bars or other places in his kilt. He thinks he can pull it off, prove it out in public. Cheers.
Subscribed to the channel a week ago and I'm enjoying the content. I've already bought 3 bottles thanks to you guys, and I don't see it stopping there. Is it just me or does Daniel look (a lot) like Kerry King from Slayer?
I would be okay with that too; guy is a legend. Anyway, I was having a glass of Monkey Shoulder the other day and I'd forgotten to wash one of the glasses. The next morning, i smelled it (expecting it to be horrid), and it smelled amazing. It was much richer than the whisky had been the night before and I could pick up a lot more on the nose. I want to try having a dried glass of the whisky I'm tasting next time. I remember you guys swishing some whisky in a glass and picking out the smokey notes therein; this could be another way, since you wouldn't be trying to fight through the smell of alcohol.
You know if Daniel walked down the street in Texas they might just think hes still confused about his gender wearing a skirt #Girlscout. Don't worry i'm sure Rex will get your back after he is done laughing.
check norris preformed his first c section before birth.....he round house kicked his way out of his mother. chuck norris, the only man who can slam revolving doors.

Keep up the amazing work and may the whiskey vault never run dry!
that's awesome! thank you. we're glad to have you in the community.
knob creek or bulleit are two solid bourbons. wild turkey 81 or 101 are two others. cant go wrong with JD either. or maybe crown royal as a first, it is super smooth and friendly.
Big Moe Facca, my condolences on the 40. I've been 30 for the past six years. 😑... Thanks for watching! We're glad you're here.
So I have to ask Daniel. Do you get ball slap action from the Sporran?
mmmmmmm. I can't comment because it's hard to type with a laptop propped on an ice pack.
LOVE Rebecca Creek! Such a Texas whiskey - smooth and stylish. Highly recommend.
They have great food vendors, they serve cocktails and have a stage for live music.
its not called a bourbon because it is a blended whiskey. says on the back 21% grain neutral spirit
I get to go to the vault on Saturday. Cant wait.
nice!
GunnySGT1911 i most definitely will lol. Be 6 foot 2. It shall be quite comical
I think he can testify that I'm HUGE
He is not as short as I had expected. Rex has to be quite tall. Daniel is quite generous tho. I had a wonderful time joining in on the tasting. And the one thing that id like to not say so it does not make people think that they can just come and get it.
That's awesome you're into rock climbing. My gf is too and introduced me to it when we first met. I've been doing it for about 3 yrs now and love it! Great exercise and I find it very meditative as well. Do mostly indoor but we take trips to outdoor spots every now and then too.
Yeah, most people don't realize that bouldering is straight up meditation. Don't do it much anymore but need to get back into it.
Glad you're here! Sorry it's expensive...
Whoa...my go to toast! But I add two lines, "When you cheat, may you cheat death" and "When you lie, may you lie next to one you love."
Good stuff! Loving this channel!
thanks for watching!
I'm making my way through the series, haven't seen you try any off the Singleton whiskys, how about tasting the 12 year old or the spey cascade? They're a little easier on the wallet in my country, so I would be interested in what you would have to say! Cheers
We have one we'll shoot soon!
What was your review on Rebecca Creek Texas Rangers blended whiskey and their vodkas?
Durri01 try Elijah Craig and bulleit rye both are friendly and affordable and common
Kevin Vinh, did it get a bottle down ceremony? 🙂
Rex of course!!!! My wife questioned our marriage and asked what I was doing lol
Been gently getting into Scotch Whisky. Last night, the restaurant I went to had Macallan 12. I feel in love and found out I haven't really lived life. Here goes to the 15th bottle of Whisk(e)y I've bought since I've been watching you guys lol
nice! such a classic.
I just went out to Rebecca Creek a couple of months ago and did a tasting. I walked out with a bottle of the Rebecca Creek Whiskey, but just a head-up: their "Texas Ranger" whiskey is VERY different. It's insanely sweet. I'm sure it'd be ok in the right cocktail, but I'd avoid drinking it straight unless you want to add a shot of insulin to your morning routine.
oy. that's doesn't sound good at all. was there any complexity? or was it straight up and down sweetness.
Rex, all I really remember is vanilla. I remember telling my wife it tasted like even sweeter cream soda. There may have been more to it, but on a small taste all I really got was a kick in the sweet tooth that'd make Chuck Norris jealous.
Best recommendation I've had from this channel - Stan Rogers, from when you mentioned Baretts Privateers
He's awesome
If you KNOW it won't, just chill and take your own notes.
id had this basically happen at a museum once......
In the end, the guide seemed pretty happy we asked questions even though it felt like we were slightly provoked into it, and we even got some of their special aged batch.
right on. which distillery had the fantastic tour?
Rex J Henry, which is a little north of Madison. I'm also totally trying to get them to send you guys some of their stuff. These guys are patient and it shows.
Question, If Daniel is a level 3 teaching folks in the level 3 class, is there a level 4 or 5 monitoring the class? Cheers.
No, we're working through this curriculum as we grow the school, so right now Level 3 is the highest level. We'll be building the next two levels in the next two-4 years.
I am really enjoying this channel, I'm pretty new here. I was wondering if you guys would do a clear whisk(e)y segment?
hmmm, possibly. if there are enough good candidates, we could focus a full episode on clear whiskey.
This is someone I'd like to hang out with more, so hopefully whiskey is one of many things we could enjoy together.
you kept it classy. well done. now you have a better chance of eventually turning him away from his heathen ways.
If this channel ever does another collaboration I think it would be awesome to see Rex and Daniel with Tim and Bradley cigar reviews talking about whiskey and cigars. Tim and Bradley are so funny to watch, just like these two and putting them in the same room drinking whiskey and smoking cigars, what could be better!
yah, those guys seems cool. ive recommended them to commenters who are looking for a cigar channel with a good vibe.
Rex yeah I'm not even a huge cigar person and I still love watching their videos haha they do go well with certain whisky though!
ooooohhhhh I like this.
I have just turned 18 (legal age to drink alcohol in Scotland) and you guys have made me want to get into whisky so badly, I know you have done a beginners video to whisky, but could you recommend any good Scottish whisky to get started on?
We'll do a video on that sometime!
27k subs now? This channel is growing fast! Just yesterday that you celebrated 10k.
Thanks for making me an afternoon whiskey drinker 😂
if they have it pappy van winkle.
bmxriderforlife1234 have you tried some yourself? From a quick search I found the 20 year old to be considered the best. Would you agree ?
yes ive tried some the 15 year old i believe it is, not the 20 its one of the more entry level versions, its very nice, but also so stupidly hard to get that id say its better just to mooch it then pay second market prices.....though for actual retail prices theyre absolutely amazing.
also i think the 23 year or 25 would probably be the best but the 25 is selling for 15k USD soooooo yeah fuck that with 15k i could get alot of whiskey. i will say this, apparently if you take two of the cheaper wl weller bourbons and mix them they are smoother and nicer then pappy van winkle though smoothness isnt the only characteristic to look for and pappy is anything but harsh.
if you can get carribou crossing single barrel thats one of the best canadian whiskeys in the eyes of many people. theres also obviously too many scotchs to list but idk what kinda scotch you like and im more of a bourbon guy myself.
but yeah if the chance for a pappy mooch comes up take it, the shits hard to get and stupidly inflated but its also really nice so no wonder why plus with the small batches and the theft of some of the whiskey its a little well known in the whiskey hobby so yeah everyone figured it must be amazing and started trying to get it liked it then it became impossible to get now its held up as a grail whiskey meaning people will try and sell them for stupid amounts of money and even fake them.
id also say if the chance for gledfiddich 40 or 50 year old pops up take that lol its a 25k bottle, also some guy in my city stole one from a local liquor store(where i live the government owns the liquor stores) someone forget to lock the vintages case and he just walked up opened it casually took the bottle walked around and left after stashing it. however it should be noted in the states costco has their own brand of scotch thats 40 years old, the barrels apparently come from glenfiddich and are just barrels that dont have the exact perfect flavor profile, the whiskey is still amazing from what ive heard but its 700$ as opposed to multiple thousands. so there is that potential way of trying a whiskey made by glenfiddich thats that old. oh also their french made vodka is grey goose for half the price, they bought a grey goose factory and then just continued making it :P
oh also if someone offers you to try a whiskey thats like super limited like only one bottling ever from the only barrel id go for it but it can be a double edged sword my buddy did it once and found a whiskey he absolutely loved but he couldnt ever get more of it. an example would be the toronto distillery co true single barrel whiskey its hickory casked, but yeah only one barrel made and they said they said they wouldnt do another due to the issues with charring the hickory cask. or like really old bottles that were made like say 25-100 years ago by distilleries that no longer exist. but yeah sorry for the rant short version too many to list but id say if pappy van winkle pops up go for it its nice stuff but not second hand market price nice. heres hoping they start making more of at least the entry level versions keep the 23 and 25 as the top end shit and let people go price jack those on the second hand market, but theres bottles that retail for like 50 that they are selling for 900-1k or more.....so yeah, at those prices id go get knob creeks entire selection along with bulleit some scotch elijah craig and buffalo trace and throw in a bottle of crown for some non whiskey drinkers and stock my bar. or go get a really really nice vintage bottle of something or a couple even.
bmxriderforlife1234 Well, you really got me interested in the Pappy Van winkle so that's one spot taken.
I hope the class is going well, Daniel!
I look forward to someday attending!
It's been an exhausting but rewarding week. Thanks for the props!
I live a 5 minute drive away from the Deanston distillery and see the 12 & 18 bottles just over Daniels right shoulder in every video. When are you going to put me out of my misery and review them? So underrated!
yaaah, deanston is good stuff. if its not already on the list, we'll add it.
They're so freaking good
Hey guys Fellow Texan living in Massachusetts for now can’t wait to be back in that area so I can take your class I’m new to the channel but I can say you have a new loyal subscriber love what y’all are doing was hoping you would do a tasting of Buchanans the 12 18 or Masters that’d be cool thanks a bunch guys keep up the good work
thank you! if its not already on the list, we'll add it.
Question!! Which whisk(e)y do I drink after I just found out a couple of hours ago, that my upstairs bathroom have to be renovated for 4000-4500 $ ???
wild turkey 101....cheap and itll get you drunk quick.
whatever makes you happy, cuz that news suuuuuuucks.
Hiii !
So. I'm a binge watcher of your videos but I could not find any review on any Bowmore ! It's the first scotch whisky I ever had (also the first I loved !) I was hoping to see it on any of the shelves but no (damn) ! Would you guys give it a try at some point ?
It's awesome! We'll do some soon. Just got the "Devil's Cask" and it's remarkable.
Video idea for you guys: I'd love to see a video of your choice of whisky from each of the main whisky making regions of Scotland that best highlights the characteristics of the whisky made in those regions.
hhmmm. i like this idea!
Entertaining as hell. Love the videos guys.
thanks, Albert, we're glad you're with us!
Really great and interesting videos, that's the way to go guys!. I myself will start trying more whiskeys and maybe start collection of my own.
thank you!
Not yet, but we will!
I think watching every Whiskey Vault episode should be qualification for Whiskey Somm level 0.5
Please try Tin Cup if that is possible!!!
Would you pair be kind enough to 'review' a bottle of Chevas Regal 12 Year?
yep!
Good good.
Do balvenie 21 year port wood!! Make it sound so incredible my wife has no choice but to approve the purchase.
Keith Clark-Hoyos might I suggest angels envy more people than not seem to find it amazing
Review speyburn 10! I need the masters opinions on this
Ok Whiskey Vault I got a doosey for ya.. what do you think would be the best whiskey to drink only on the rocks? Something that would still make you say "that's a damn fine whiskey"
Hmmmm... Bourbon
You guys should review the bottle of The Glenlivet founders reserve. I've recently discovered this channel and I love it, every review episode I've watched I see that founders reserve bottle over Daniels right shoulder and since I recently picked up a bottle I'd love to hear what you think of it.
Glad you're here! We'll do it soon.
Anyone can point me to the right direction of a bourbon with creamy note? Just got Angel's Envy while not disappointing but wasn't what I was looking for. Great fruity/floral bourbon, but feel more of a scotch (which is great) but less than the classic bourbon for me.
I'm very new to whisky and was planning to buy Deanston 12.. Can someone give me some input about this?
We haven't featured it, but we did bring it out on the side in this video!
ruclips.net/video/SC9CEETPoZU/видео.html
Daniel, would it be possible to give a 30 second rundown about what the different levels of the sommelier course mean?? To be honest, I'm not sure if a level 3 is really rare and good or if that's a participation trophy that you wear haha
i believe level 3 is the top level, he said in a previous video that the class for it focuses on scotch alot so yeah probably pretty complex. in my mind i see it being the top level but im not actually sure 100%
bmxriderforlife1234 yeah I would assume it's a hard level to get to, just curious about the program they offer. Thank you for the info!
daniel is teaching classes right now so he probably won't see this, at least not for several days. in the meantime, here's a link to the website. whiskymarketing.org/5-levels-of-certification/
Daniel, Are you wearing the kilt as a proper Scotsman would?
I'll never tell
Na, Zdrowie!
Rex what do you put in your hair you magnificent bastard?! Is it bald eagle tears? The collected and condensed breath of a wolf? Your secrets! Tell them to us!
Love the show. You guys are one of those great-terrible influences.
"great terrible influences" true words! I've even started ordering Whiskey at fancier restaurants instead of beer.
WisdomForWizards yeah! I think the story is the same for a lot of us. Since I found these guys at the beginning of the summer, my whiskey collection has expanded at an exponential rate! I can look at a whiskey list now and make informed decisions to boot!
that secret can only be shared with level 5 whiskey mooches.
its that easy? brb gonna go mooch 5 drinks :P
I'm only a 4.75 ugh.
If you fart in a kilt, does it flap like a flag in the back?
confirmed.
Only if you really believe. Try son. Try. Live.
Clear whiskey? Silver Coyote from Santa Fe Spirits, Santa Fe, New Mexico. The same distillery that makes Colkegan.
whens the next episode, im sitting here waiting
PithyGinger 63, it usually releases between 10 and 11 Central standard time
thx, i'll keep that in mind
6:45 Beard sends out SOS signal to PLEASE trim me!
Damn you both. I am trying to get work done and now you post a new video. Will I ever get those nine minutes back.
our diabolical scheme is finally coming to fruition!
Haha, I've been competitive Rock climbing for around 6 years. Funny you brought up competitive climbing.
Yeah, I did it only about 1 year, and I was barely in the intermediate level. But I really loved it.
If you go out with the kilt on you need to get video for the next show .
Just finished binge watching everything Whiskey Vault, you radically changed my view of whiskey.
First exposure was 8 shots Jack Daniels, a light beer between each… it didn’t end well.
Avoided Whiskey until
Second Exposure: 3 shots Jameson (it was St.
(And to occasionally to remind Daniel to talk about the Whiskey.)
Keep up the good work you magnificent bastards, and May the Whiskey Vault never run dry!
thank you! we're glad you're with us. in regards to - knowing my place... part of my raw sex appeal is that i ignore any good taste, standards and protocol.
Glenlivet 12?
I have to give it to Daniel, he looks smooth in that kilt and that jacket. I don't care what that Scottish customer said, he probably was just jealous that Daniel as a non-first generation scottishman looked better.
Belfry m.facebook.com/groups/2553688224951169
do you want daniel to wear the kilt again? cuz That's how you get daniel to wear the kilt again.
I'm going to go with this story.
I have to say that I think this channel will be forever categorized as pre and post biscuit wars #teamamurica
Yes. And someday we'll have to have a reunion / come together of a glass of whisky meeting.
Whiskey Vault I'm not upset about drinking more whiskey
Think I like this show even more now that I noticed there's a kilt.
why are you hiding the edradour?
it bit my hand and is being punished.
Over here in Germany I have never seen the Rebecca Creek Whiskey - what a pity
Quick comment for the glasses maybe 50 bucks for a set of 5
Did you go commando whilst wearing the kilt Daniel - a true Scotsman always does you know. ;)
of course!
Man i would love to taste so much things out of a whiskey. It would be so awsome but i just begun with enjoying whiskey . But i like it a lot :D
Rebecca Creek is somewhat bland but easy for everyone to drink even non bourbon drinkers. Good for the guys poker party. Their Texas Ranger product is much more complex and enjoyable. Would like to see you guys review that one.
Bring back the Smoke!
i started watching everyday...
oh what a tangled web we weave... I hope you've given up any hope of escaping. MwwuuHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA *cough... i mean, Welcome! Thanks for watching.
A ham sandwich walks into a bar and orders a whiskey, the bartender says "sorry, we don't serve food here"
really? ... really?!? just 6 months in and you're already throwing down the dad jokes??? *sigh...
Two months in here and I gotta say, I feel a weird urge to tell dad jokes all the time.
gah! i have 3 and my oldest is 11. resist the urge!!! although i may have to break down and let my wife buy a mini van... which is a dad joke on wheels.
Rex how you've held out this long is beyond me, but yeah, the mini-van thing... now I feel bad we've tortured you with dad jokes...
Rex, you know you enjoyed that one!! Give into the dad jokes and buy yourself a little more time without the minivan!!! The universe will eventually lead you into one or the other.
I don't have a bottle of Rebecca Creek in front of me, but isn't it a Spirit Whiskey?
It is!
Would that explain why they left the "Bourbon" designation off?
Thirst! Need more "Biscuts" and gravy! Yummy!
Jason Meyer m.facebook.com/groups/2553688224951169
Whats your opinion on hip flasks? not classy/classy? an absolute sin to drink out of a flask? High or low-quality whiskey out of them? Drink out of one and experience how difficult it is. lots of love
I have several. I use them for when I need whisky in places where a bottle would be awkward... like kindergarten graduation. :-)
Actually, I usually use them just for travel and then pour it into a glass when I arrive.
Maybe they dont use new oak barrels so..not a bourbon.
Update from the Whisk(e)y Noob: There will be more Whisky in my life!
I still have a few drams left to try, but so far, me and my gf prefer whisky over whiskey.
nice. any particular one?
Talisker Skye and Highland Park 12. Oban 14 is also pretty amazing. It's so friendly.
Rebecca Creek goes amazing with sprite. Coke and Rebecca Creek not that good. They give free distillery tours on the weekends.
nice. i've only had rebecca creek neat or on the rocks. actually, i don't think ive ever had a whiskey with sprite. i'll give it a try sometime.
Rex it's my go to for mixing instead of crown or jack.
Lions Republic sent me👍
Another quick tip for any kind of a tasting...skip the cologne or perfume.
after watching the live stream I am left wondering when we will get to meet wife and mom? Maybe they could just stand off to the side and give you crap while you drink ...
that sounds like my home... kidding!
Use alcohol free whiskey that tasted the same to see if someone fakes drunkenness great test of honesty
HEY! Whisk[e]y Biscuit idea. WHSK[E]Y BISCUIT IDEA!!!!! Have Daniel walk around downtown Austin to whiskey bars or other places in his kilt. He thinks he can pull it off, prove it out in public. Cheers.
How do you organize a great space party? You planet.
BUNNAH 12!!!!!
Subscribed to the channel a week ago and I'm enjoying the content. I've already bought 3 bottles thanks to you guys, and I don't see it stopping there. Is it just me or does Daniel look (a lot) like Kerry King from Slayer?
I'm totally okay with that, but I think he has 150lbs on me.
Hine
You know if Daniel walked down the street in Texas they might just think hes still confused about his gender wearing a skirt #Girlscout. Don't worry i'm sure Rex will get your back after he is done laughing.
Justanotherparatrooper m.facebook.com/groups/2553688224951169
If they are in Austin they would think it's a normal day
If they think he's a girl scout, I wonder how many people will ask to buy girl scout biscuits.
That is absolutely true
