Magic Dick, (Richard Salwitz) plays harmonica for the J. Geils Band.
Salwitz was born in New London, Connecticut. He attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute, in Worcester, Massachusetts, where he met John "J." Geils and Danny Klein and became a founding member of the J. Geils Band in 1965. Salwitz's harmonica playing became a major and distinctive element in the J. Geils Band's sound during their hard-rocking 1970s heyday. His performance of "Whammer Jammer" on the band's live album Full Househas been particularly noted. In The Rolling Stone Record Guide (1979), music critic Dave Marsh described Salwitz as possibly "the best white musician to ever play blues harmonica." He was often referred to as "Magic Dick and his Lickin' Stick".

Saw J Geils in Manchester in maybe 1974. Absolutely jaw dropping...just sooo much fun
This was really great. Part 1 and Part 2 both. Long time J. Geils Band fan. Thanks for that.
Glad you enjoyed it
Wamba jamba is why I'm a musician. I never could get that high bend though. No regrets. Thanks Magic Dick
Hopefully one day we'll see more DVD footage of some more unreleased shows
Thank You Richard For Being Such A Big Part Of My Life Since First Seeing You And The J.Geils Band At 15 year's Old, April 22nd 1976 Manchester Armory, New Hampshire.

I Didn't Recognize You Without Your Sunglasses and Suitcase of Harps?;Lol How Kool is This? VERY ❤
Entertaining and informative this was great!
I still have a button that says “Magic Dick is King” that l somehow grabbed out of the air from in front of the stage at the 1976 Winterland concert
I'd love to see some of those photos!!
Sadly copyright and ownership issues prevent us from adding some material on RUclips. Patreon versions at times have additional material.
Me too, thanks a lot ~
Thank you too!
Cool band, saw them several times and have most of their recordings. If we could age regress them, by some combination of science or voodoo, I think they’d be a pretty hot commodity again, my 30 something suns and their buddies would definitely dig their stuff.
To say that Joe Franklin was one of a kind is an understatement.
I’m so demented that I own a copy of his autobiography.
This in incredible - Nice work on this interview
Glad you enjoyed it!
JFK Stadium headlining ? Did J. Geils open for the Rolling Stones there ? September or October 1981 ?
Please don’t interrupt Magic Dick as he talks because he is a great interview. Your interview techniques would be helpful in journalism school on how not to do an interview. Magic Dick is willing to talk about his life and career so the trick is you let him elaborate.
Peter Blankfield And Richard Salwitz ; peter Wolf and Magic Dick
Mark How is it possible, if you have a "blog" and are a music enthusiast, that you do not know Peter"s last name. His last name ss part of the lore. I hope by now you know his last name. It begins with a W ends with an E and has 3 letters in between. So far, MD:s story is fascinating on its own ans is VERY enjoyable!!!
Frank Zappa named his 2nd son Ahmet after Mr.Ertegun
Did they mention Magic Sam?
With that name she probably thought he was an adult star lol
