To understand the story in EXO's "Ko Ko Bop" MV, you have to keep in mind that the story in "Ko Ko Bop" is connected to the story in their "Lucky One." MV. "Ko Ko Bop" may look trippy and crazy, but if you understand EXO's storyline you will see that everything was done for a specific reason. There are 8 members in "Ko Ko Bop." This was the first MV where Lay was unable to participate because of the political issues between the Korean and Chinese government at the time. I can see how people might think that Ko Ko Bop is a drug they are all taking and that is why they are acting like they are high and kind of in a loopy drugged-like state. But to really understand what is happening in "Ko Ko Bop," you have to understand what is happening in their "Lucky One" MV. In "Lucky One" EXO has been captured by the Red Force who is doing experiments on EXO to try and figure out what makes them special, and to find a way to prevent them from finding and protecting the Tree of Life, etc. The members all use their powers to escape from the government facility and this is where theories say that the story in "Ko Ko Bop" picks up right after they have escaped in "Lucky One". The blue Ko Ko Bop drink that Suho mixes and the members drink, and the pills or wafers you see them eating, is supposed to be an elixir that is helping the members to detox from the drugs the Red Force gave them when they were being held against their will in the "Lucky One" MV. The Red Force is represented by red light and red objects. Any time you see red that has something to do with the Red Force. Blue is thought to represent EXO. When you see purple these are instances where the line between the Red Force and EXO is blurred and the two sides are fighting for control, etc. -- red and blue mixed together makes purple. If you want to see the choreography better you are going to have to watch a comeback stage performance of "Ko Ko Bop." So in "Ko Ko Bop" you see Kai with the power of teleportation using his power to levitate and Suho with the power to control water jumps into the water and disappears, and later appears inside the washing machine, etc. You see Chen with the power of thunder/lightning/electricity playing with his power and you see Baekhyun use his power of light as he throws the ball in the air and creates that huge flash of light and Chanyeol uses his power of fire to create the fireworks when he bounces the ball into the sky. D.O. accidentally uses his power of strength/force and splits open the ground when he falls down, etc. Xiumin has the power of snow/ice/frost so he is using his power to create a cloud to fill the glass. Sehun uses his power to control wind to make objects float in the air. And, the car looks like it's driving by itself because they are using their powers to control the car, etc. Their unbridled use of their powers and the haphazard way they play with their environment around them can be explained by the fact that they were drugged in "Lucky One" and while they are still dealing with the drugs in their system, in "Ko Ko Bop" their inhibitions are lowered and they use their powers without caution. So part of their story goes: The members were trapped in the maze by the Red Force in "Overdose" and while they were trapped they were captured and moved to the government facility in "Lucky One" and after escaping in "Lucky One" we see them detoxing in "Ko Ko Bop." However, since then, we now have "Obsession's" part of the story where we have discovered that the Red Force has created X-EXO clones. So some theories now think that instead of "Ko Ko Bop" being about the EXO members, it might be showing us X-EXO. If you remember in "Obsession," the members in the bright colors with the crazy hair and makeup were the X-EXO clones and the members in the all black outfits were EXO. So now some theories think that maybe because "Ko Ko Bop" is so colorful, that it is showing us X-EXO right after they were brought to life, and this is their first time out in the world. So X-EXO are playing with their powers and trying to figure out how they work, and they are getting acclimated to their environment, etc. Everything EXO does has something to do with their storyline and their origin story including every single one of their MVs, most of their sub-unit MVs, solo MVs, live performances and choreography, as well as teaser videos and concert VCRs. Nothing is random or done without a specific purpose and meaning and it's our job as fans to piece it all together. But, as you can see, to make it even more difficult to follow, nothing is in chronological order. We have to become detectives and analyze everything that EXO does in order to try and figure out where each piece fits within the larger storyline. However, at this point it's only theories and educated guesses. With every new release from EXO it adds another piece to their story. Sometimes that new piece helps to confirm what we thought was happening and other times it turns everything on its head and we realize that what we thought was happening wasn't even close. We can only hope that someday SM will finally explain everything, so we will know whether what we have been thinking all along is correct.

Hey so I just spent several hours the other day listening to EXO’s entire discography and narrowed down a best of playlist for Spotify if you wanna check it out-it’s still almost 3 hours (excluded sub-unit, holiday, and solo stuff)😅 but it has a TON of insanely good b sides and not a lot of title tracks… you can just do a search on Spotify for my name or for the playlist titled EXO BEST OF😎 then again, you may want to just do the album reactions first-EXODUS and LOVE SHOT would be my choices just based on how many tracks from those are on the favorites list❤️🔥 … I’m realizing that I love them as much as I do because their b sides really remind me of the jams that I would hear and be super into at middle school dances - r&b and boy bands of the 90’s (cuz I’m aged👾)
Sidenote: the only title tracks that made it on the playlist are Overdose, Lotto, and What Is Love (unless I’m forgetting one)… it’s not that I can’t enjoy Obsession, Ko Ko Bop, Love Shot etc… it’s just that I like the other tracks a lot more😅

Kpop stylists make some bad choices (Kai's hair)for sure, I have learned to blame the stylist since the artists usually don't make the decisions themselves. (LOOKING AT YOU NCT LIMITLESS HAIR STYLERS)... And yeah, EXO MV concept story is so complex and sometimes doesn't really go with the lyrics. For the hair in kokobop, he actually chose it himself. Not the stylists. BUT he didn't do it to mock black people, but as an inspiration & appreciation for the reggae genre of Kokobop. People need to be less sensitive & entitled sometimes bcus it's not always all about race. That hair is common for rastafarians & any other reggae musicians, not just for black people.
It'd be a completely different case for his cornrows in Wolf. That's stylists' doing & they didn't do it without any good motive whatsoever, it's just purely cosmetic.
