Tammy Lucas is a singer/songwriter and vocal producer born with music in her blood. Her Dad is Ray Lucas, Soul Jazz Funk & RnB drummer who played with the Apollo house band/Jimi Hendrix/ Dionne Warwick /Donnie Hathaway/Nina Simone and many more. Also her Mom, was lead of a girl group for a time.
Tammy's recording artistry began as result of being a member of the legendary Paradise Garage. She was introduced to up and coming producers; Boyd Jarvis & Timmy Regisford. She wrote lyrics & melody to Jarvis' club track, her 1st song HEY BOY and performed it on the Paradise Garage stage while the maestro himself Mr. Larry Levan mixed her debut record from the DJ booth.
Tammy began writing and recording songs with Teddy Riley when he was a HIP HOP producer. Her soulful style help create the New Jack Swing sound. Together they co-wrote the song JOY with Michael Jackson for his Dangerous album. She helped Chad & Pharrell get signed to their 1st deal and began writing sessions with them that lasted for years. Tammy was an integral part of the production duo's writing team, and she helped them create the super successful Neptune sound.

Omg! Tammy's voice is heavenly. That song at the end is magic. Something tells me that she was not pushed because she is dark skinned. I need some music from her, I will support
Yes, she wasn't pushed because of her image. If you saw the video for Heavy D Is It Good to You. They didn't use Tammy or even Blackstreet Tonight's the night. The record label gave Teddy the budget to release her album but he didn't trust the fans and shelved her
@@HalftimeChat They were wrong about the public's need for superficiality. That's why Missy Elliott was such a breakthrough artist, because people loved her music and her style. I wish they had given Tammy a chance. It is sad that she put in so much work, yet didn't get the rewards of her talent. ❤💜💜
White people don't have a problem with dark skin it's other black people who care about that crap
Was a big fan of Tammy Lucas. Supported her features and releases. Loved her voice.
"Is It Good To You?" was CERTIFIED!
Tammy Lucas should've been bigger she did her thing on its good too you and the Neptune's changed the game being under teddy
Turn Out The Lights should have been released , that song is hot imo.
I’ve been saying for a long time that The Neptunes need to be on Verzuz. They deserve their flowers AND roses! Their sound was unique and fresh! Every singer and rapper had to have a Neptune beat or production. I LOVE the Neptunes indefinitely
It absolutely hurts my soul 2 the core on a molecular level that Tammy never released an album between 91 & 96. I would've loved 2 hear a duet between her & Big Bub back in the day (I Like Your Style was a taste).
Teddy truly dropped the ball 😡
@@HalftimeChat he dropped the ball back then when he kicked Timmy Gatlin out the group guy,and still to thus day he still lies & refuses to give Timmy any credit,"they could have been 1 of the greatest song writing & musical beat teams in the history of music 🎶 people seem to always let greed get in the way of common sense 📢
That song go hard 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Turn Out The Lights...The Neptunes #PharrellWilliams #ChadHugo and #TammyLucas killing it with the vocals I wish they would have did a whole album together man wow 🎤🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
A tribe called quest and Tammy Lucas 1nce Again 😁💯
Tammy Lucas had that voice....9:53 that song is hot!
What's the name of that song? I always liked her voice
Turn Out The Lights would’ve been a song I love to purchase and play over and over and over and over again
I'm still trying to get her to release the album she recorded with Teddy and the Neptunes
@@HalftimeChat she seems modest, an admirable trait but unfortunately a hindrance in the entertainment business. i hope she heeds your suggestion AND also puts out new music. hers is a voice that's sadly missed in today's auto tune world.
Everybody leaves Teddy..it starts off with flash and then sizzles..peace neptunes and Tammy Lucas..I was hired to assist with the original lead singer of Blackstreet..r.i.p. John Stonestreet
His name is/was Joseph Stonestreet…..wait, he passed away??? 👀
Yes he died about 2 years before the pandemic. Had a stroke
I NEED THIS SONG!!!!! Tammie pleaseeee give us access to this song.
So happy to see this. I love Tammy’s voice. Such a talent. It’s also cool to know that all of this happened in my home state. Keep going Tammy.
Nice vibe..she fit well with the neptunes
MAN . That song is SO DOPE. I don’t know what I’d do without your GREAT platform . SALUTE
Thx for the interview big fan of Tammy I grew up around Future Studios and have great memories of her and the crew over there.
Wow. You must have seen them before most of us
Wow! What a treat at the end! I'd love to hear her make new music. You're doing GREAT work on this channel!
Much appreciated thank you 😊🙏🏾
hey man, i really appreciate what you're doing. tammy lucas. wow. what a voice. sultry and melodic. never heard of her. no fault of hers. i lived in albany, new york at the time. no black radio stations. i hope she's still making music.
keep up the good work.
Wow, she was on most of the background vocals for Teddy Riley, both Guy albums, the first Keith Sweat album, Is It Good to You with Heavy D, and also Tonight's the night on Blackstreet. Two tracks on Wreckx-n-Effect album and much more 😁🤭
@@HalftimeChat ; Thanks for bringing Tammy on; kind of wondering what happen to her ; love her voice on “ Is it good to you “” still have the LP 😊. Glad she doing okay
@@fosiko123 it was a pleasure speaking with her especially on her birthday. I kept pinching myself because I couldn't believe it was really happening 🤭
@@HalftimeChat that’s very nice of you; most younger people probably don’t remember who she is; but I’m kind of old school 😊 ; was living back in the days in early 90’s in UK and first notice her voice in “ Is it good to you “ probably played it 10-15 times at day back then; then suddenly nothing was heard of her - sometimes I just hate the music industry !!!!! . One of this weekends I will visit my garage here in CA where I still have over cherished 300 LP’s 😊and fished out Tammy’s record and listen
Is it gd to u is a classic," the lyrics melody beats and mellow laid back feeling it gives u while ur grooving to it ! Great cookout song & romantic candlelight experience 💘
Tammy voice was heavenly! I likened her to Layla Hathaway
She has a nice voice
Tammy on once again tribe ❤❤
Some reason I like the way that you handle haters online you and your members and omar you and your whole team seems surprisingly calm and you take criticism very well especially with trolls.
Thank you very much. It was more difficult in the beginning but I take the good feedback and suggestions but discard negativity 🙏🏾
She rocked "Is it good to you" by Heavy D!!
You mean the juice sound track
That was her and teddy riley on the Juice soundtrack
That song is 🔥🔥🔥
So happy I accidentally found this channel a week ago. Love that '90s era of hip hop and r&b. This guy seems to have the plug on getting interviews with alotta behind the scenes people from that era.
Thank you Michael. It started during lockdown and with my first guest father MC, since then I've been fortunate to have interviewed over 70 artists in the 2 years 😇
That song is fire playing at the end. I guarantee that would of big hit if they would of pushed it more.
They had a whole album completed
Her never released songs are amazing
I don't know how you're getting all these exclusive interviews, but thanks.
Thank you. It's been a long road trying to build a platform to celebrate these guys
THANK YOU!
Nice!
Tammy was the first Mary J Blige... stronger voice however her look was more out of place than Mary's at the time. Nothing last forever.
Dope Hoodie 🥁🥁🥁
Heavy Gratitude
This is producer John Wesley Payne man Tammy if you guys don't get that "Turn Off The Lights" track to Janet Jackson it would be the BIGGEST mistake ever made. She would KILL that song !! Just change that key change transition other than that the song is PERFECT !!!
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Mucho!!! Haven’t seen him in years! Good to see him
He's still making music and recently produced something for the new Basic Black album
10:35 wow, nice song
Pharell said chad and tammy got in a brawl
Wow, I didn't know that
How has he never heard of the 5th Dimension and you claimed to love black music 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
Teddy ruined her smdh , its always that question of "what could've been".
I remember waiting for her album as well as 911 😓
Hello Tammy
The industry really played her cause she was a little overweight...sad
