- When the legendary experimental electronic duo of Rob Brown and Sean Booth announced their 14th album SIGN, I decided to catch up with all of their previously released studio albums and discuss them in a video. It took far, FAR longer than expected and was a challenging experience, but in the process I found some of the most fascinating music I've ever heard.
This is part 1 of 2, where I discuss their first nine albums (Incunabula - Quaristice). Apologies for my extremely slow upload rate - part 2 will be out as soon as possible!

Basic reaction but u can’t imagine how fucking awesome it is to listen to someone young discuss cool music in a cohesive manner. Keep it up :)
I hope it doesn't ruin anyone's enjoyment, but I'm 66 and I've been exploring Autechre off and on for several years. I am equal parts fascinated, awed and bewildered by their art. I think it is really exciting that you have managed to give me some insights I hadn't quite grasped before.
Autechre is for everyone of every age! 66 is the perfect age to enjoy them :)
Great work here. And 'Chiastic Slide' is indeed an awesome experience! Hardly any albums touch it - very underrated.

'Chiastic Slide' is my personal favorite in their discography. Timeless sound.
Autechre is a rabbit hole, really. you have all of the 90s stuff which is already a lot and then all the post LP5 works. you need sometimes several listening to really appreciate an album, some of them are long and you always seem to discover something new each time you listen to something. I wish I could listen to their music for the time again.

A couple days ago I listened to the four NTS albums in two sessions. They were recommended to me. It is some of the most original and powerful music I've heard. I loved it. Using Final Audio e5000 earphones with an amp, perfect for that very agile sub bass.
Okay, I was probably 1/10 as smart as you at your age. I still can’t describe Autechre with the vocabulary you have. This is excellent.

Anybody who like Chiastic Slide is alright in my books. :) It's among my favourites as well. Have you checked out Envane EP and Cichli Suite EP? They complement the album quite well and contain some killer tracks. Incidentally, Untilted and Confield are my favourite Autechre albums aside from Chiastic Slide, so I highly recommend giving them a few more listens. For Confield, one really has to be in the mood for, though.

wait... you're NOT discussing the EP's? you do know that's... like over half their discography you are tuning out just because? it could be argued that you are going to miss some of their most brilliant stuff. the EP's are often treated as companions to the LP's, either embellishing ideas further or providing a flip-side view (an ambient album followed by a more beat heavy ep, etc). you have REAAAAAALLLLLY done yourself a disservice here.
given the main albums added up to nearly 30 hours of music I just thought I'd cut down a little for the videos so they weren't overstuffed and I didn't get burnt out. after I gave myself a break though I've been going through the other stuff and really enjoying what I've heard :)

Definitely Incunabula, although Amber, Oversteps and Sign also have some fairly chilled material (albeit often darker and more experimental)
